I picked Liara and Tali because they were the nicest to Shepard.

Well my Main Femshep sided with Kaiden since there conversations felt natural and they both were looking for someone to support there flaws and pains (My Femshep was a Colonist/Sole Survivor so a lot to deal with there).  After that and going into Horizon She tried to re connect but was completely shattered by his rejection, she returned to Normandy empty and her hatred of Cerberus growing to the point where she decked Miranda for suggesting it's for the best.

Slowly though she and Garrus started talking more about the missions the the scars they both carried, there was always respect between the two but then they saw something more and it grew from there.

Main Shep was loyal to Liara. I like the contrast, stoic no holds barred, warrior and elegant, brainy scientist. Plus, I liked the dynamic chemistry between Hale and Hills.

My paragon Vanguard always had liked Garrus, he had a certain fire in his personality that others seemed to lack. Amara's feelings didn't reach romantic inclination though until events on Omega, Horizon & Sidonis pushed her to that realization. I consider it ironic as she & Garrus disagree frequently on major decisions. That he was there for her through all that's happened mattered more to her than declarations of love.

My renegade Infiltrator is a bit of a vindictive human-centric witch, unable to establish relationships with her teammates. Unsurprisingly ended up with Kelly Chambers

ME 1 = Liara

Male Shepard: Soldier class, Colony, Ruthless,  Full Renagade with 3/4 Paragon
ME 2 = Miranda :D She's hard to resist, fits my renegade shep perfectly...(dumped Ash...)
ME 2 = Liara ( a different playthrough)

ME 2 = Ash (but slept with everyone and dumped them to keep Ash pic up) haha

I prefer Tali as a LI for my spacer Shepard. Both have military upbringings. Both have spent their entire lives aboard starships. Both give hints to broken families, Tali with her distant father and mother's death and Shepard with at least one his parents always being on duty. Both seem genuinely interested in each other. I often used Tali as a squadmate in ME to balance my Shepard's biotic focus (adept) so both have been through the same things together and know how to keep the other alive. Romantic involvement seems natural.

Holding out for Samara. She fits Shep best I think. She's also the only Asari in Sheps life that won't outlive him by near a thousand years, so they may have a shot at actually living the rest of their lives together as opposed to Shep being another notch in the old belt.

I chose Tali, I had taken a likeing to her back in ME1 and was saddened when I found out about the whole immunity system deal and that she wasn't an LI. In mass effect 2 I was impressed by how much she had matured since the last game, and twith my hatred of cerberus it was nice to have someone who I didn't expect to shoot me as soon as my back was turned. even in ME2 I didn't think that she was an LI until the conversation with her came up, taking me by suprise. needless to say I took her up on the offer immedietly.

My Shep went with Ashley.

She's blunt and opinionated, but fiercely loyal to her ideals, friends, and family, something my Paragon Shep can appreciate. She takes all that life dishes out for her and keeps striving to make the galaxy better. She doesn't trust aliens, but that's out of ignorance more than ideology. Shep convinced her to give them a chance. Funadamentally, she's a decent person who doesn't sugarcoat,

Here's hoping when ME3 comes along, she'll be there at his side just as he said he wanted in ME1. She could be my Infiltrator's strong right arm. Covering Shep with her boomstick while Shep takes out long-range threats with his sniper rifle.

I chose Liara for my femshep Earthborn/Sole Survivor Paragon, Reese. It's the only relationship I tried/imported from ME, can't bring myself to romance Kaidan for some odd reason. I loved the Liara relationship and carried it over/stayed faithful. Which brings me to say she is one of the few LI who I felt truly loves Shep. Oh BTW, I was amazed at how well the dialogue between the Hale and Hillis was(someone said it above), the chemistry between those is awesome.
Liara is<3.

For my Vanguard Paragon Tanith(Colony/hero) who I based around myself, since she was my first Shep, was as well like others here completely smitten with Garrus since seeing him arguing with Executor Pallin. Turians also look inappropriately badass. When I first saw Nihlus on screen, I yelled out "DA-Yum" scaring the living bejesus out of my poor cat.  While a seemingly small crush was nursed throughout ME1, Garrus was a constant companion, who she realized was an amazing brother in arms and friend as well. His quips, sarcastic and cynical comments always brightened Tanith's day.
Then ME2 rolled , and Tanith was forever lost in a sea of Badass Adorkable:wub:.

Seeing as how my Shepard made the choices I probably would have made, I'd say yes. I chose Liara in ME1, then Tali in ME2, then rekindled with Liara in Shadow Broker, and am now waiting to see what happens because honestly I don't want to give up either, but I will if I must.

My "Canon" Shepard is based on me. I went with Liara in ME1 because I prefer her over Ashely. Though deep down I wanted Tali in a bad way. Because she has a sweet personality and she complemented my interest in technology. I can relate to her with her weak immune system since mine is pretty messed up.

So yeah, I went for Tali the moment I could. I will also state that I do not want to see what she looks like under the mask or see what the Quarians look like without their environmental suits. It'd like to keep the mental image I have of her intact.

I envisioned my version of Shepard to be a strong and passionate and determined fighter. With that in mind, he obviously fell hard for Ashley. She was a strong woman, equally determined and honor bound with a tough exterior but also hidden compassion.

Though they differed on political opinions, Shepard who never had the luxury of a big family, loved listening to stories of Ashley's sisters. Shepard who had an appreciation for classical literature was impressed by Ashley's knowledge of such texts.

In the end, he found his perfect woman. What began as a close friendship/flirtation became full fledged love and even though two years passed and there was a major problem when they met again and they are now living a galaxy apart, Shepard isn't about to move on yet.

My paragon (canon) Shepard is pretty much based on me. I ended up choosing Miranda. I didn't really like her at the beginning but she really grew on me after her loyalty mission. A cold women but I'm happy that my Shepard can defrost her.

Miranda seems the most relatable to my Shepard in that all of the others are either fawning over him or mentally unstable. After LotSB he did get back with Liara but I have a feeling I'm going to cheat on her come ME3 and get back with Miranda (if it's possible). I'm a horrible person.

I don't disassociate my own tastes from my Shepards very much so all of my ME 1 female Shepards romanced Kaidan and most of them switched to Thane in ME 2. I'm keeping one Shepard loyal to Kaidan. I love introverted, thoughtful types, being one myself.

I really like Garrus' personality but his romance talks were too awkward to me; I don't like Shepard being so aggressive. She keeps that part of herself for the battlefield and the boardroom.

Thane and Kaidan were much more natural in their progression IMO.

My only male Shepard romanced Ashley and will be loyal to her.

Well my first playthrough ever I romanced Ashley, basically because she was the only female human option lol. Then I redid my Shepard when ME 2 came out, romanced nobody the first game, and then romanced Miranda in the second game. I did this because she seemed like the only character who stood up to Shepard like an equal and not a doting fangirl like Tali and Liara, who quoting poetry and being all mushy like Ashley. Me and my Shepard are drawn to girls who know what they're worth and make you work to win them over, plus she is easily the most attractive character in the series (to me), and finally because my Shepard's an anti-Cerberus sole survivor, so romancing a Cerberus agent was the ultimate irony/forbidden fruit for him and nothing was sweeter than winning her over her loyalty to Cerberus and seeing her hang up on the Illusive Man, HA!

My Canon Shepard(who is male) chose Tali. It was more than just her being my favorite character, and definitely more than just seeing what her face looked like(I have YouTube for that, so I knew well ahead before the game even came out that her face wouldn't be shown.) My Shepard and Tali just had a special connection. I tried other characters' romance plots, and while I thought most were decent(I felt that ME1's Liara and Miranda's needed some work), they weren't a perfect fit for my Shepard. Granted, while the Tali romance plot is not perfect(I felt that the whole "secret crush" thing was unnecessary and just felt out of place for her character), I still prefer her over any girl.

I chose Garrus because he was the only character between ME1 & ME2 who threw away everything to be with Shepard. He was definitely the most loyal. I also play a renegade (Not the Xenophobic type. More the 'I just hate everyone' type.), and Garrus' vigilante sensibilities fit well with hers. They are partners with benefits. No physical attraction, it mostly stems from a very deep loyalty between them.

Think of it like Batou x Motoko from Ghost in the Shell.

That and from my perspective it makes it very interesting that there would be a deep friend/partnership/love/trust between a turian and a human only a few decades after the First Contact war, when tensions between both races are still incredibly high. Since my Shep is a renegade and so damn forward, her advances towards Garrus seemed to fit perfectly in the storyline. His awkwardness also worked well, considering the circumstances between them and the history between their races. Renegade Shep never really gave a care about history or rules.

Tried Tali, it was too easy and I felt no connection. She was too dependent on Shep. Went with Miri since she is so close to Shep's personality: strong willed and independent.

I chose Garrus mainly because FemShep and Garrus are birds of a feather. It just amkes sense. They're both badasses, both idealists and just seem to be a perfect partnership (even without romance). I also chose Garrus because I always like it when characters aren't introduced as LIs but slowly develop that way. It gives them a chance to grow an attraction and have a certain chemistry without us being told that they are in love by word of god. Garrus not being a LI in ME1 is a good thing because it gives him and femshep a completely platonic starting block (same with Tali and maleshep). They're best friends, so their relationship developing into something more just fits. (Also, turians are damn fine :P)

I have tried the other LIs though and they are all right. But like I said, instant attraction is kind of a turn off for me. Thane had a decent romance but, again, it felt like we were just supposed to accept that they were in love because they only had one game to develop this attraction. I didn't go for Liara because I personally don't have any attraction to women, Kaiden annoyed the hell out of me with his creepy 'I love you'-itis and Jacob... well, need I say more?

Maybe that's why Garrus' feels more natural. Reading between the lines you can see that he genuinely cares about femshep but if you don't pursue the relationship, you would never know. He just sticks by you anyway.
