The books didn't make Maric seem like the kind of guy that fooled around and I don't believe that he forced himself upon Goldana's mother... but elves in the deep roads are irresistible to him.

Must be something about the pungent aroma of decomposing darkspawn flesh and light absolving abyss that get those silly kids all riled up in their loins..

It might be that, after his confrontation with Katriel in the Fade, Maric got over it and got back into the dating game?  Fiona sure gave him an ultimatum and maybe he needed to drown himself in the sexual company of kinky concubines?  No nug-skin condoms in the world of Thedas, eh?

Eh... wait that doesn't work with the timeline if Alistair was born when Rowan was still around.....  Who the hell did Maric inject with man-milk?!?!?!

Mr. Gaider, this is beginning to bother me.  Is Alistair even a legitimate heir of Fereldan??  I'm starting to think that he really was just Arl Eamon's bastard like those viscious rumours...  *gasp*!  Maybe Arl Eamon just made it up so he could control the nation like Anora implies!

And why was Maric out at sea?  Oooo!  Maybe Maric was lost at sea because he was on a voyage to return to Fiona or some such shenanigans!?

Tsk if we start considering all the bastards Cailan and Maric may have had (along with Morrigan's if she does the deed with Alistair) the royal family tree is going to end up looking like a bush.

He heard there was an island populated solely by elven women and he felt it was his solemn duty to bring them the wisdom of the Chant. He's not really lost, he's just never come home. Image IPB

Well in the end maybe this solves the question of why Loghain was so willing to have his best friend's son killed.

Plenty where he came from...

When Katriel told Maric to "forgive yourself and forget me" he must have taken it seriously...  How could one Fereldan king sex up so many elven women and not be bitterly reminded of his one true love....?

Or maybe he did that on purpose to remember her?  *sigh*... the seeming senselessness makes it oh so believable.

But if you go in Denerim at the tavern/bar or whatever and you as the innkeeper for the gossip/rumor. there is a time he says that there is and Illegitimate child of Maric hidding in the castle.

it wouldn't surprise me that there is a third younger (brother or sister) to Alistair out there ready to do a come back ala Mordred.....

Dear Lord the speculation here ranges from plausible to downright absurd

Is anyone standing around going 'SUMMERS FAMILY TREE! SUMMERS FAMILY TREE!'? No? Just me?

(Summers, as in Scott.)

It's interesting though. Very interesting. A lot of things about the whole mess are: there do seem to be inconsistencies, but the way they're handled, you really can't say they're author inconsistencies: unreliable narrator is used a few times in this game, with good results. Although I am bemused about the ghost's line.

There's so much in this game and this *world* that relies on what everyone is told. The Chantry is the biggest one, but there are a multitude of other smaller things. I would not be surprised if this was one of them, as Mikka-chan suggests. We don't necessarily need to know the truth...that opens up room for our own ideas, which I don't mind at all.

Yeah but you do know that the fun part of the Summers Family Tree is you can add members without really screwing the Timeline/space/continum.

But from what i've seen and heard or read, Maric seems to have Robert Baratheon(sp?) tedency of fatherinf bastard children or even the Frey Patriarch...well that guy did breed an army XD.

I always assumed he tripped and fell on his smug smile! *giggle*

Behold!  A man who is well pleased with how awesome he is.

(Maric's pic from the Dragon Age Wiki site, SFW I promise.)

There are no half-elves. They spurn humans. No known reason as to why.

Then if they supposedly spurn humans how is it Allisters mom is an elf? Not to mention I just beat the game and with my city elf it talks about Soris marrying a human. So your wrong.

Well, considering that they reckon that somewhere between 1 in 10 and 9 in 10 of the English population is descended from the bastard offspring Henry VIII sired on a whole bunch of serving girls that's quite possible for a royal family...
