Once the xbox is running the ME3 engine then we can really compare the two.

Not really: they didn't create any new textures or models or the like for the PS3 port of ME2.  They just repacked all the pre-existing ME2 stuff for the updated engine.  We'll only be able to properly compare ME3 PS3 to ME3 360.

Huh, can't see it. Want to compare it with my Xbox version : <

Edit: Meh, only North America. Damn you Sony.

As expected the only real difference visually is the way lighting is handled. But that's the same with any PS3/360 comparison; PS3 has better AA and smoother shadows but generally a more washed out colour palette while the 360 is a little darker but with better colour reproduction. The only reason that Jacob scene looks any different is the positioning of the light source, which the devs probably did intentionally to show off the characters a bit more.

Another oddity is the change of skybox on Lazurus Station. I'd love to hear the reasoning behind little things like that (and the voice over changes and little bugs someone else brought up). It's something that makes developers so unique.

Bottom line is buy ME2 on PS3 if you don't already own it. It's opened the game up to a whole new audience but this isn't neseccarily a must-have upgrade for existing owners. Especially those already invested in DLC and playthroughs and whatnot.

What is there to explain? The PS3 version looks better as it should.

Uh... wut?

I don't have a horse in this race really -- I have it for PC, so I couldn't care less which looks better -- but it seems pretty obvious to me that the 360 handles the texture and lighting WAY better than the PS3.  The textures, or at least the normal maps, look much more detailed.

The 360's shading on facial geometry is also way better; the PS3 makes things look rather "flat" by comparison.  A very good example is the closeup of Shepard looking up and to the left (5th picture down).  Slide the divider to the left and compare Shepard's cheek.  On the PS3 that cheek is just a flat shade of shadowed skin tone, whereas in the 360 the lighting reveals lots of geometrical detail on the cheek and around his brow and eye socket that is totally lost on the PS3.  Plus, the bright highlights just have more visual punch.  The same on the next picture down, of Jacob -- notice the lit side of his face, and you'll see that the 360's lighting capabilities reveal the geometry of his face much more, particularly on his forehead and cheekbone.

Also, the 360 does self-shading and better shadows, which adds a lot of realism.  Like on the picture of Shepard getting off the operating table, on the 360 you can see his fingers casting shadows across his face and ear.  Shepard also casts a shadow with a "fuzzy edge" on the 360, like real shadows, rather than the sharply outlined ones on the PS3.

Anyway, I'm just basing this on the Lens of Truth link.  Maybe the PS3 actually looks better than that, maybe they were comparing with, as they said, an older build of the demo.  Maybe the full version will look better, I don't know.  But if you're using the demo as a comparison, the Xbox looks much better.

I presume that everyone realises that screen tearing can be as much an issue with your output device as it is the console....

well- maybe not as much, but it can be a contributory factor

You can notice that the fps jumps to 60 when you're looking to walls and similar things, the game normally runs at 30 fps (which is good), but in battles or something you notice that it drops to 20 or something like that.

and weren't we talking about the VISUALS, no?
doesn't matter to you, you  obivously just want to troll me.
i dont care though. I know the truth. ;)

the online video encode taking effect only on Ps3? Not on 360?It's a kind of magic?
We're talking about everything. Visuals seems good, very good, better illuminations on Ps3, but i usual don't play with visual, but with framerate and it is ridiculous. Few hours and download the demo, but even on neogaf talking about poor framerate e tearing. :)

I agree with you having played the demo for a while, screen shots on lens of truth are NO WERE near reality. Its way brighter, and waaay sharper. There are no  frame rate issues at all in the demo, only in the intro cut scenes. I'll trust IGN on that one, my own analysis shows the game is closer to the IGN video.

Oh 1 small thing? Why 720P?! Bioware I hope that's only for the demo.

Almost no console game nowadays runs natively at 1080p. Some are just upscaled to this res. Most run at 720p and ME2 is no exception. If you want to play the game in 1080p, do it on PC.

Especially if they're cross platform (no trolling about ports, etc. more a factor of efficiency for multiple platforms and trying to keep all the codebases somewhat in sync)

The demo of Mass Effect 2 on the Playstation 3 is NOW available in North America. It will be available in Europe and the rest of the world tomorrow December 22. Check your Playstation Home network or GO HERE for details. :)

You Guys are Awesome, I loved the option to swap L1 R1 for L2 R2 triggers(which I believe will be the same in the full game right), the graphics and how smooth the game run on PS3 are a bonus, I need to get ready because you guys are going to clean up my wallet next year, ME2 PS3, DA2 PS3 and ME3 PS3 and 360 as well since I have the first two...

Been waiting forever to get this game on the PS3. Honestly, the demo was fantastic--would've liked to see the comic, but oh well--and I had to play it twice. I didn't see much screen tearing on mine, but noticed the hair thing on the FemShep at the beginning. Was very distracting. There was also some parts where they showed the control buttons for the Xbox version during the tutorial. Other than that, I had tons of fun playing it. Thank you so much, Bioware for doing this for us PS3 players. =)

The gameplay on the demo is amazing and looks amazing, the intro video is what looks a little low, but it's a bunch of parts taken from the first game, which aren't even taken from a PS3 version since it didn't come out for the system back then. For a game demo it runs smooth and absolutelly beautiful, and to say it doesn't look better than the 360 version is... either you have some mess-up connections on your PS3, don't even use a HDMI cables for your console, or just plain stupid 360 fanboy crap. I have the 360 version of the game, and the PS3 version DO look a lot better, still... the most important thing for me isn't the graphics as the 360 looks great anyway, but the game itself which is Awesome

Man, PS3 users over at some other boards are tearing the demo (and ME2) apart. Apparently everything about ME2 sucks. Oh well, getting the PS crowd aboard the ME train was a long shot anyway.

About the demo, I read that Liara is now the default character who interacts with Shepard on the SR1 during the intro. I guess they chose to do it because Liara can't die in ME1 and the interactive comic comes after the opening sequence which means thet you can't decide who lives or dies and who is your love interest from the first game before the intro.
