Now the only real problem I have with the demo is that you can't skip the "previously on Mass Effect" scene. I can totally stomach the Normandy exploding and all but the recap cut scene just added to the length.

.. Would it kill someone on the Bioware staff to post a comment here reassuring PS3 owners that the technical issues in the demo wont be in the final version? .
you are new to the forums i would assume ? EAs correspondence with the ME community is almost non existent
So the "new" engine is just better lighting and shadows ? here i was thinking thy gonna upgrade UE 3.0
Come on lets be fair, it's Christmas time and the EA/Bioware staff are on their holidays. From my experience the communication between Bioware and their fans on this forum are great, something you don't see on other developers fan sites. I myself have posted about how disappointed i am with the ME 2 demo, what with all the issues it has, but it is unlikely we will get a response to it now, so we will have to wait till after the holidays.
Merry Christmas everyone.
Oh come one remember the time when the Dragon Age PS3 technical support was hidden from non-members thereby making it appear like it didn't exist for those that aren't registered members? Bioware doesn't care about PS3 gamers...
I kid, I kid I know it was just an oversight but hey a little joke paranoia never hurt anyone

Technically it seems fine, there is a bit of screen tearing here and there, but nothing much really. I was a little disappointed with the actual game though, I was expecting it to be Dragon Age in space, and it certainly isn't that. It doesn't seem to have much depth, just 3rd person shooting and 5 or 6 powers per class - seriously are there only 5 or 6 powers per class, is that as deep as the experience goes???
I love RPG's, but I couldn't find much RPG here. Am I missing something? I realise I've only played a shortish demo....but does the whole game consist of running around generic space stations using the same handful of powers over and over again? What else is in the game to give it variety and depth? I'm sure it has a good story, but gameplay wise...what else is there to it other than using the same few powers over and over?
This was a day one purchase for me, but after the demo I'm a little hesistant that it will get samey really fast.
Please explain what I'm missing.

If you define RPG as upgradable skills and leveling strategy, you're going to be disappointed. Mass Effect is a ROLE playing game, not a Roll Playing Game.

Don't expect deep RPG gameplay mechanics - ME2 is nothing like Dragon Age in that department. The powers each have two different specializations when you max them out, and as you can see from the stats screens in the demo, you unlock some of them by upgrading others, but as far as the leveling goes, that's it. There's also a modular armor system (but only for Shepard) with specific stat bonuses, and various defense and damage types that are specifically related, but that's about it. Strategy largely consists of making sure you have the squadmates with the right powers with you for the types of defenses you'll be up against, and then positioning them correctly in the battlefield so that they don't die too quickly.
The Mass Effect games are intended as shooter/RPG hybrids, and that's what they do. A lot of the RPG purists here hate them for that reason, especially ME2. If you think that's you, don't bother. But the combat is very successful at what it actually aims to do, and the story and characters are good. Honestly, I don't find the gameplay any more repetitive than DA:O, it's just a totally different animal, and if you're only interested in the geekier aspects of RPGs and number crunching, this isn't the game for you.

I played and loved ME2 fro the story, characters and the interactions with the world. Thats what defines a RPG for me. Not an arbitrary set of spells, and hundreds of abilities.

Yet for some reason the game seemed oddly colorful and textures oddly unwashed out.So i jumped to ME PC,to compare, only to realize this games textures obvious cant handle higher resolutions. They get so blurry, its like looking through my dads glasses. So resolution "Down you go!!!"Hnm,reminds me of KOTOR
On a side note, they've been working on this for a year right?"So,whats the deal,Jack?"
Oh and I got stuck in the scenery.Mordins office never looked so weird, skybox weird....

Sure. ME2 has some amazing story and interactions. Everything you do effects the world and characters, just like DAO. If you like amazing story, making choices, sci fi, something different and a BIoware made game, get it. It's true the interations are not on the level of DAO when your just walking around and Allister and Morrigon start the banter between another, but the game is a very solid expirence. It's just the demo gave you some backstory to whats going on since your new to the series and a taste of the action. All powers can be upgraded, fights can be strategic while some run and gun, you can change your armor and customize it how you like to a degree, and each class feels different enough to warrent multi playthroughs along with decissions you make. ME1 had more RPG in it since you could loot more and had banter, but they oddly cut that out ME2. You'll def get $60 worth out of ME2 if you want to try something different. If Sci Fi, Shooting, great story and a side of light RPG sauce isnt something for you, pass it up, but honestly, you'll get 30-60hrs+ out of it at teh very least and not too many games can do that lately. You have ME2, Two Worlds 2 in Jan, DA2 in Feb or Mar, then ME3 in Nov. (RPG fixes for next year PS3 wise)
Ive beaten the game 6x at least on 360 and Im re picking it up now Im on PS3. Not too many games have that kind of value. Think it over.

Playing the game as a soldier, with only various ammo powers and adrenaline rush, is quite different from a vanguard with close combat, or a sentinel relying on various powers instead. Add the choice of gender and a mostly paragon or renegade approach and you can see how different and personal the game can get.

Well I doubt that 'previously on' screen will be in the final game (well at least not in the form it is in the demo) due to the comic being available for it. As for the demo, what I've tended to do is fire the game up, get to that point then go make myself a drink or something and usually by time get back it's over with and game is either kicking into the normandy scene or waiting for me to answer to what Liara said.
Gone through the demo 4 times now, probably going to give the other 2 classes I've not taken through it yet. Had fun on my last playthrough though. I decided to try Insanity for the first time ever.
Got killed 4 times on Mordin's mission

Got killed 4 times on Mordin's mission, once in one of the fights before seeing Mordin, another in the one just after Mordin and then twice in the last big fight. I actually expected to die a lot more than that, so I was really happy at seeing that result. That was with a Sentinel and the highest I'd played before that was one playthrough of the demo on Veteran with a Vanguard. When I played ME2 on PC I'd used either casual or normal, so it was exciting to try higher levels.
I just play Half Life 2 and Portal while I wait. And like I said it's a problem I had with the demo not the game.

I can but your missing the point. the game is releasing in 2011 and there is no excuse for a game being made in 720P no days. I have a great LED TV and would like to see all games in 1080P espec thru PS3. With 360 some games could get away with that due to limited space on a disk and not being BR.
Wolf of the Battlefield: Commando 3 = 1920×1080Wipeout HD = 1920×1080Go Puzzle = 1920×1080GT5 Prologue = 1920×1080Lair = 800×1080/1600×1080Ridge Racer 7 = 1920×1080NBA07 = 1920×1080NBA08 = 1920×1080Blast Factor = 1920×1080Calling All Cars = 1920×1080Echochrome = 1920×1080Elefunk = 1920×1080High Velocity Bowling = 1920×1080Locoroco Cocoreccho = 1920×1080Mainichi Issyo = 1440×1080Pixel Junk Monsters/Racers/Eden = 1920×1080Rub’a'dub = 1600×1080Snakeball = 1280×1080Stardust HD = 1280×1080Sudoku = 1920×1080Super Rub-a-Dub = 1600×1080Tekken 5 Dark Resurrection = 1920×1080, FF13 etc....
there'sa ton more but why do you want a list? This doesnt answer my question of why the lower resolution when we could be rocking the full deal. If you have a small SD tv I feel bad for you son, I got 99 prob, but HD aint one!
I also question 1 other choice I hope wasnt left in the full game. The lack of a SKIP button on the intro scenes! It makes doing another play thru annoying when you have to sit thru the 10 min cutscence for 2 choices and the CS for any major event you seen already. Bad game design. You should be able to click skip and have a reconfirm pop up once you hit the button to do so.
The PS3 nor the 360 have the power to render ME2 at 1080p. Also, disk space has NOTHING whatsoever to do with resolution and framerate.
All those games you listed are incredibly simple graphically, with the exception of GT5P - Which runs at 1280x1080, not 1920x1080 and even then it achieves that by a LOT of tricks to make it work (colored polygons instead of textures for most of the cars, low res textures on tracks, HEAVY lod'ing and a lot of vertex shaders).
The PS3 and 360 are essentially PC's from around 2005. They simply can't handle "proper" games at such high resolutions. Killzone, Uncharted, Forza, God of War, Halo, MW2, Black Ops, Bad Company 2.... Those are all games that run on 720p @ 30 fps. The lower resolution and framerate also means they look miles better than the other games you listed, same as ME2. Proper graphics at 1080p/60fps won't happen untill the next console generation.
Or you could just get a PC.

Not being able to skip the Intros. Screen tearing. Weird sound glitches. Freezing. If this was a game, I wouldn't be impressed....
But as a Demo, I keep playing it over and over. I can't wait to play the full game. This demo hasn't dampened my enthusiasm for ME2. If anything I'm more pumped up about it and I can't wait for it to be released. Those of you that have played it for PC or Xbox, I get why you'd be disappointed in the Demo, but you've PLAYED IT BEFORE. I haven't. Even a dirty demo is better than nothing.
Cannot wait for ME2 for PS3!

Yeah but when's the last time you've seen a game demo and the final product look drastically different? I would be estatic if they manage to eliminate the screen tearing in the final product, and I'm holding out for the final word on the tearing to determine whether I purchase it or not, but I don't have my hopes up
Well I have played many game demos that compared to the final product(actually many of them even note that it's a demo and doesn't represent the final product) anyway... I've played many demos that compared to the full game they were all crappy, one I can think of is F1CE which the demo must still be on PSN, the final game looks Amazing, and plays much better as well...
