This is good news for PS3 players! =)
This is an open letter to Bioware regarding this situation.
Here's how I feel about being an Xbox360 player:
I very much enjoyed playing ME1 several times through, over and over again so that I could experience the full suite of dialogue/outcomes and create several "characters" to carry along to ME2. I carried over 3 of them, 1 paragon male, 1 renegade male, and one mixed-actions female.
I very much enjoyed playing ME2 several times through, each time with one of my previous characters from ME1 so that I could not only experience the repurcussions of my previous actions, but also to set myself up for the "Full ME3 Experience" by having characters derived from several conceivable decision routes. I now have 5 different characters to bring into ME3 by duplicating my previousmale charachters and subjecting them to different decision routes.
I have planned this out very well... I thought.
Now I am very afraid. I am afraid that 4 of the biggest decisions that I made in ME1 will have absolutely no effect on ME3, and that'd make me feel ripped-off and cheated. These four crucial decisions are:
1. Preservation/extinction of the Rachni.
2. Preservation/termination of Wrex.
3. Preservation/termination of the Council.
4. Preservation of Ashley/Kaiden.
(Assignment of Anderson/Udina to the council is actually a ME2 decision, so it's not listed here)
Now that ME is going to the PS3, and there is no way that PS3 owners could affect the 4 crucial decisions I listed, I can only assume that you will negate the ramifications of these crucial decisions in order to placate the PS3 market.
For instance, you *SPECIFICALLY STATED* IN ME2 that the ME1 decision involving the Rachni *WILL HAVE* a major impact in ME3 based on the dialogue on Illium with the woman who was stranded and then saved by the Queen. I don't see how PS3 owners could possibly influence the existence or extinction of the Rachni.
I'm afraid that this point will become moot in ME3; I would consider mooting this decision this to be a form of fraud. The same high-degree of importance belongs with how the Krogan deal with tradition vs. breeding/rebuilding under Wrex's governance or not, the species-makeup of the council and their involvement with an Earth Invasion, and which alliance soldier survived to finally play a follow-up role in the series.
Please don't render my ME1 playthroughs as moot, for I would be very disappointed and certainly never purchase a Bioware game series ever again.
