Unless they can pull of some kind of miracle, I think multiplayer should be avoided at all costs. It could work in a spin-off, sure, but I have little hope for anything implemented alongside SP.

Guess it doesn't really matter what we say at this point... ME3 WILL have multiplayer.

Why does everybody act as if MP will affect the SP in any way?

Somewhere down the line it could be fun with some competitive arenas. But I would rather they don't invest in it for ME3. Can you imagine how adrenaline rush would work in multi-player? It wouldn't work the same way. In fact many of the abilities would have to work completely differently. Leave ME3 as single player and look at bringing out a multi-player game based on ME later.

Nay. I'm sick of multiplayer and having to deal with stupid people just to have the full experience.  If they have to put in multiplayer to appease EA I hope they don't put achievements attached to it. I've 100% completed Mass Effect up until this point and I won't do that for the rest of the series if I have to play multiplayer.

Oh, and for those of you that missed it here is EA Games' label president Frank Gibeau comment that set me over the edge on this issue: http://xbox360.ign.c.../1138974p1.html

Just play with your friends. Do you honestly think I want to play with random ****s over the internet? Absolutely not.

I just want to control Grunt and smash peoples' heads in and watch a particular friend of mine be a huge jerk during conversations.

I don't have a problem with multiplayer on principle, but I do not see how co-op could be incorporated in any meaningful way.

i have no problem with a multiplayer, i just dont really want it for ME3. i think a multiplayer could work as long as theyd removing any type of pausing or slowing the game like changing weapons or using AR. putting in a coop gameplay wouldnt really make sense because its shepards story and im not sure player 2 wants to sit in the backseat untill combat. adding some sort of multiplayer PvP might be okay. id much rather the time and effort be put towards the single player.

its just hard to say i wouldnt have a blast playing in ME3 as sehaprd with a few buddies playing with grunt and liara as squadmates.

Nay. For most people however, co-op is a happy medium but I'll tell you why it won't work. Who wants to be some thug tagging along for the ride while your co-op buddy plays as Shep? My guess? No one.

I'd love to play as Grunt, actually. I already enjoy watching other people play the game. Playing as a squaddie just allows me to get involved in the combat when there's no dialogue going on.

You want to be the guy making all the cool story decisions m'right? Furthermore, who gets to play Shep? Is the decision made randomly? Do we paper, scissor, rock for it?

I can play through singleplayer if I want to make the decisions, or my friends and I can decide "all right we'll do Schnei's Shep this week." The host plays as Shep. Simple.

I hadn't thought of that but yes, if I could jump into another players campaign as a squad-member without it affecting my mine storywise then it could work.  That being said, there should be bonuses earned while in another players game otherwise I'd have almost no incentive to play co-op.  The "fun" factor of playing with a friend will become old after a while.

Let's remember that this is still an RPG.  I don't play ME to pew pew bad guys and earn l33t kills, I play it because of the story and character progression.  At the very least XP earned should carry over to my single player campaign along with any other bonuses BW can come up with.

I do totally want this. I do. I did it for BG2 and had a blast.

All I'm going to say that Mass Effect 3 should stay as a Single Player only game.

This could be made like RE5's co-op. You can voluntarily drop out after a combat mission and join another game.

Thoughts?

Me too. We'll have to wait another 30 years until the next big gaming series comes out.

I'm neutral to multiplayer. I'm not a shooter fan, but the original Golden Eye holds a special place in my heart. I STILL play one or twice a year. As long as it does not in any way take away from single player, and BioWare makes it a fully realized and quality experience, I will be ok with it. I will even further be ok with it if there is immense customization, it is first person, and single player returns to its thick RPG roots. Solid compromise.

idk man i think the should just focus on DLC and story. The should release a seperate game (completely multiplayer). I have my one ideas on what I would want for the complete multiplayer version of ME Universe. One were you start off by picking your own race and appearance. Then you pop into the world with every other multiplayer.
Just one giant MMORPG. With all the major areas of Mass Effect.

Because it will.
First, Bioware have a fixed amount of resources (money and programmer time). Spending some of that on multiplayer means it is not spent on singleplayer. If a game engine was not designed for multiplayer then adding it is definately nontrivial. On the other hand, the publisher may think that multiplayer will lead to more sales so they may budget more resources.
Second, if a class-based game is to support PvP then the classes need to be balanced wrt each other, which affects the singleplayer experience.

That really depends, if MP is being done by a different team(bioware was hiring people for this anyway) then it wouldn't affect the SP.
