To give credit where it is due: the diagrams were well designed.

Whoever was responsible for that, I tip my hat to you.

Static loading screens with capsules of background information anything from historical to trivial (eg "Turians cannot see the color violet due to theie eye structure" or "A diplomatic party of Asari in 2162 tried to convince the Alliance to provide supplies to the Quarians but was rejected.", etc)

The problem with elevators is due to the structure of both programming and intergrating video, anybody with a high performance PC will be forced to wait out the entire thing unless you did not mind a sped up video (like pressing fast forward). For PCs at lower specs, the entire thing will extend the time you need to wait as processing power is diverted to calculating video timing and running the video itself.

The static loading screen reduces this somewhat (though ME2's animation takes processing power as well) as voiceover timing and control is not needed.

Note: Squad banter is what most people want when they say elevators but squad banter can be programmed to happen anywhere else, eg the quarian immune system and shotgun talk on the stairs

Elevators.

This isn't about what is faster and easyer, this is about what improve the impression that game world is more real (alive).

That's like asking if I want a root canal or my teeth pulled, either way it's going to be painful.
With that said however, I do have a slight preference towards loading screens so long as they present some form of trivia or codex information. At least then I have something to look forward to while the game transitions to the next location.

Heh, I thought I was the only one that liked elevators. Would love to have them back.

The loading screens somehow pissed me off less than the elevators. Make of it what you want.

Whichever is faster.

Agreed. Whichever one gets me back into the game quicker, is the one I'd prefer.

Elevators from Mass Effect 1 please! I honestly never really had a problem with them the loading screens are just to "gamey".

elevators, I like actually being able to feel like it's all one big world and loading screens are not conducive to that

allow us to check our start menu, like level up teammates, check codex and journal etc... while in loading screens.

Improved elevators FTW! Just make news and conversations less repeating, and some faster elevators :) Though I had no problems with old ones.

Elevators with tweeks, the Normandy hatch and all kinds of other things that might be used to keep the levels and universe connected as a whole are a good thing.
I see not the sligthest improvement with the static loading screens. I did not upgrade my computers hardware, yet the rather poorly optimized ME1 (in comparison ofcourse) often loads much faster even with elevators in the foreground.
It should also be noted that loading screens can be made less intrusive by simply showing parts of the universe. ME1 had loading screens too, only that they showed the citadel wards or the Normandy flying, which is much better than an obvious "GAME LEVEL IS LOADING, PLEASE WAIT PLAYER1".

Bring back the elevators and airlock.Something that really bothered me with ME2 was that the whole game felt like it was built up by tiny separated linear levels. Loading screen is possibly the quicker alternative, especially if you got a decent PC, but they also completely break immersion, so I'd much prefer to wait a couple of seconds longer while listening to squad banter or news reports.

I hated the loading screens, rather have the elevators. The loading screens totally break the immersion. Same with those end-mission statistics. Mass Effect is not DOOM or Duke Nukem 3D, you know? I hated that even more than the loading screens.

Elevators, gief dem back. I never really disliked them, maybe if you were in a rush and just wanted to get things done quickly, then they could be bit of a nuisance. Otherwise they were neat and the conversations in the elevators added nice touch.

I think letting us see outside the elevators would be good too, so we can see the beautiful set pieces of wherever we are at.

I'd rather have static loading screens that progresses faster due to me having a semi high-end PC than stupid elevators with hardcoded length whose only saving grace is some generic partybanter.

I always prefer "hidden" loading screens in games, helps atleast me with immersion.

Elevators. And where there has to be a loadscreen, loadscreens more like the ones in ME1.

I preferred it all being in-universe. For example, when using fast travel in the citadel, it would have a loadscreen that looked like a zoomed out, moving view of the wards. I just preferred that kind of thing to the orange, yellow and green diagrams.

Ive never really understood why they dont just make brief in-game cinematics for this kind of thing. ie if theyre heading out in the shuttle just play out the boarding process and take off, then loop it flying until its loaded and finally show it land - i believe metroid prime 3 does this and its totally nice. It looks way beter then any static screen or schematic of the vehicle or whatever. Actually when i think about it, its a bit dissapointing that alot of enter/exit animations are cut in ME2. It would just take that tiny bit of attention to detail to make it seemless.

And to think a wii game handles this better is interesting! From a hardware perspective purely - as metroid prime is amazing and not to be discredited!
