If we go back to the VGAs when that guy was up there talking about ME2 for the GotY summary. While he was introducing the trailer; A holographic image (the VGAs had this sorta virtual reality thing going on; you could only see it if you watched it on TV.) of Earth popped up and then darkened and bright orange flares were all over it. The only sensible solution to this is either...
A: The Reapers did something to our Sun (Think about it The church like thing in ME1, Haestrom, Dark Energy vibes)
B. The Reapers used an EMP type of thing when invading
or
C. Bioware thought it would look cool and did expect idiots like me to go online and actually try to connect that to something; creating a vast web of lies and innaccuracies that would haunt our minds till we get more information.
