Running through my list of things to mess around with has brought me to the character generation 2das and scripts. I have a test module (other campaign) and edited 2da files, but I can't seem to get classes, races, or origins to be altered in character generation.
My question is: Can you add/remove options such as race or class to character generation? If so, how does it work? (In detail, please.)
(I thought people making campaigns outside of Thedas may not want "Dalish" Elves as a background choice.)

I believe at the moment the UI for char gen is static and doesn't load in anything custom, which seems like a serious problem for modding. My guess is that they are planning DLC that adds stuff and are intentionally making it hard for modders to do this and make them look bad.

Okay, then, as an alternative, does anyone know if you can Replace current playable races with new ones?

You can edit the current classes. As for races I'm sure there is a way to do it, but I am mainly gearing towards classes first before I tackle something as large as a new race given that classes will require no new artwork aside from icons if I choose to not reuse the ones already available. I have already managed to get a new class choice to show up in character generation, however, as of the moment I have yet to be able to make it selectable. You can see the icon, you just can't select it.
So far the files to do this have been CLA_base.xls, background.xls, guitypes.xls, and AL(class name)_Default.xls. I used the ALWarrior_Default.xls and ALRogue_Default.xls as my references. There is also a mod being worked on now I believe called shapeshifter that will add a new sub-class to mages that allow you to change into dragon forms.
I hope that all helps point you in the right direction and by all means if you manage to get something working please drop me a line. I know I could certainly use all the help I can get as well.

Wishmaster_96: as for your issue with not being able to select your custom class...a lot of games have the classes only selectable by certain races so you may have to go into the race files and replace the class file you modified with the new file. Just a thought, although I know all classes are selectable by all races in DA:O. If you changed the filename it may have affected its selectability in this way. Hope it works

Not all classes are selectable, dwarves cannot play a mage.

This is true for campaigns specifically intended for Thedas; other worlds built on the Dragon Age game engine could have different rules for mages. These things are all controlled by scripting and 2da files, as far as I can tell.

Thanks for the attempt wykid. There might be a section somewhere in the string list that needs to be referenced for that and I'll have to take a look, but as I listed one of the files that seems to deal with a new class is "backgrounds.xls". Inside there it actually seems to have the settings for races and classes and boolean values from the looks of it that sets which race can select which class and also what ends up with what background type, i.e. noble or magi.
From what I have been able to see so far I needed to edit the talk table and add in the new class there as well for the rules section as to get the appropriate stringID for them. Even after doing that though I have yet to get the class actually selectable. So back to the drawing board. Must be another file or string reference somewhere that deals with what race can select what class. At least as you mentioned, this seems to be the most likely reason why I can't select it yet.
Thanks again though
P.S.
If I do ever figure this out the first thing i'm doing is writing a tutorial on it or atleast adding it to the wiki page.
