Destroying the SR2 and bringing in a third ship would just be trite. Best of just keeping the one we've got, and just allowing us to get rid of those Cerberus decals.
This!!!!

The crew transfers to a dreadnaught, and another crew takes over Normandy.

That would be like captain Kirk leaving the Enterprise for some other random ship.<_<Lotion Soronnar wrote...
Why should Normandy SR2 be destroyed for Sheppard to a get a new ship? Ever heard of transfer?

The larger the ship is going to be, the slower and less nimble it will become.
Well not to sound like a ***** and i know its just a game but theres no friction in space and the size and mass of the ship really does not effect speed (at all) or manuverability much.

The more mass, the more energy need to move it.Turien Rebel wrote...

More like Kirk transferring from Enterprise-A to Enterprise-D.
Besides, it's not the name of the ship that's important.

Max speed, yes.
Acceleration..smaller ship will have an edge there in terms of efficiency. Max acceleration is restricted to what a human body can take. Something like 5-9G.
Turning...the bigger (longer) the ship, the slower it has to turn, since the forces at the extreeme ends scale up the longer the ship is.

Ok, true. But we already did the whole "Oh look at your shiny new ship" scenario. Theres no need for a "Your ship is too small, heres a bigger one." Not that a bigger ship will help.Lotion Soronnar wrote...

For some reason people think that everything in ME3 should come in 3's. 3 discs, third ship, and so on...

My speculation as to what happens to the SR2 is that the Alliance gets their hands on it and perform some major upgrades and refits.

I think the Alliance will take Shepard back. But, I only have 2 testicles which I'm saving for a rainy day. So, you'll have to take my word on it.

Shepard joins the Alliance (confirmed actually) and is kind enough to give The Illusive Man his ship back (there are holes in it anyway). However, the Alliance and the turians are given the blueprints of the SR-2 and collaborate on a new Normandy.
Also, it's very well possible that ME3 takes place a couple of years after Mass Effect 2 and it would make sense that they've upgraded the technology of these ships.

For those concerned that the SR2 may need to take on Reapers: that's what additional upgrades are for.
Normandy has no chances against Reaper in fair fight, and no upgrades can help with it. Both Normandies was developed as sneaking and landing ships, not battle ships. So number after SR depends on what Bioware wants to show in ME3.

Even though Normandy is a small ship,it is considered as one of the best ships in the galaxy.Small, agile, stealth ship that combined turian and human technology! Normandy SR2 is based on the first Normandy with few upgrades.Elite_Strike_Eagle wrote...
Do you guys thing the SR2 is tough enough to combat the Reapers? I mean if the Normandy will be the flagship of the Galactic Fleet, it has to be bigger and more bad ass. Do you guys agree?
So I think that Normandy deserves to be flagship of Galactic Fleet .
Oh yeah, the design is just awesome!
