Also, the Hammerhead had a lot of annoying sound samples, which, most of the time, were totally inappropriate to the situation. But then, it may just have been a bug in the German version.

Also being able to save while driving it would be great.

I would like to see it have a weapon that requires at least some skill to use. Other than that i have to issues with it!

All in all I prefer the (though sleep-inducing) missions with the Mako..at least that thing didn't burst in flames if Shepard broke wind ..aaaand it had decent weaponry.

Spastic combat, arcade controls, tin-foil armor, extremely lame missions, level design that I swear was meant to be a joke...
The MAKO was solid and felt like it belonged in the game, not like some mini-game.

In that DLC of the Normandy crash and I saw that Mako still in tact I about died laughing, it probably still worked. I wanted to take it back with me. XD
I'd like really to see both vehicles integrated somehow.

So I decided to do a new run of ME2 with all the free DLC (I did about 5 playthroughs of the game before most of it came out, so I was burned out on the game when it did) before I get around to buying the paid DLC. I fired up the Hammerhead, and my thoughts are as follows:
The Good:
+ Controls really well. Switching to a hovertank was definitely a good move in my book.
+ Looks cool. Another win for the aesthetics.
+ No more ridiculous mountain scaling, and the steep things you do fly up the side of aren't a pain to traverse anymore.
+ The "extraction" is a cool touch.
The Bad:
- The armament is pathetic. A single "gun" that fires tiny, weak rockets?
- The levels are too linear, there's no more exploration like there was with the Mako.
- Way too fragile, especailly on higher difficulties.
All in all it's not horrible, but I can't help but wish it was different. I'd love an overhaul of the combat, which is basically abysmal with this thing. In armament terms I'd prefer an MG like we had on the Mako, maybe with some rocket pods or a tank gun backup. I'd also like to see a return to the big exploritory levels from the first game, although they were not without problems of their own. The biggest problem with the Mako was the ridiculous, mountain filled level design and objectives scattered in such a way that you practically always had to go over some 80 degree cliffface to get where you needed to go. The nature of the hovertank means that this problem is solved, so I'd love to see a return to ME1 style "vehicle levels" on the surface of uncharted worlds.
What do you think, Community?
I have committed suicide more often in the hammerhead than I have in the actual suicide mission. I actually ran the hammerhead into a mountain until it blew up because I got so frustrated trying to go from one place to another.
I like the idea of the hovercraft but apparently I'm not coordinated enough to actually use it. I also die often because I get shot down before I can destroy whatever is firing at me. I have reached the point in my frustration that I only do the missions I absolutely have to.
I would love to have both the Mako and the Hammerhead and an option to get to where ever you are going, in either of them.

I couldn't stand the Mako's handling, though I liked the exploration in concept better than the Hammerhead's missions.

The only vehicle I liked driving in ME was obviously the car in LotSB.
Now this was fun.

So Mako vs Hammerhead. Mako wins in my book hands down. If it came down to Hammerhead or nothing, I'll walk to the objective, thanks. After Firewalker, I determined that Overlord would not be worth my money.
Too bad for you. Overlord is great.
That's what I understand. The story behind Overlord sounds really interesting. But I just can't make myself get into the Hammerhead again. Not after Firewalker. I'd probably feel the same way about Bring Down the Sky if it had the Hammerhead instead.
Maybe someday if there's a sale, or I have extra Bioware points I'm not using.
OK, I agree with you. I have a terrible time in the hammerhead and Firewalker caused me to die more than once, from a suicide run into a mountain and I've done one other thing where I just quit and went to a previous save, and no longer go anywhere I have to use the hammerhead if I can help it.
That being said, I do like Overlord. I don't do any of the extra things you can do, and I had to watch a video on how to do the last part of it, but after about 3 tries I managed to finish it and now I can get through it without too many do-overs, but I still wish I could drive there, even if it took longer, or yes walk. So I would recommend it, but can definitely understand waiting till it's on sale.

+good, intuitive and fun controls
-you can not leave the vehicle when you want
-when you leave at designated areas there is a fade to black or loading screen breaking up the experience -> the world feels disconnected
-most mindless, boring combat I have ever seen; sitting in one place, aiming at the middle of a geth army and just keeping the fire button pressed until 2 minutes later everything is gone YAAAWN.
-not practical (possible) on worlds without air
-linear world design with invisible walls you can actually crash into
-arrow on the ground instead of an immersive map
-"picking up stuff" through a minigame that makes no sense
-no indication of health/shields until it is too late
-incredible fragile
Overall it totally defeats the purpose of exploring atmospheric alien worlds and feels like a arcade game from the dawn of computer games.
MAKO:
+ diverse combat, two fire mods, satisfying "cannon makes them fly!", you choose when and from where to attack and from what distance and you choose what to shoot at
+ zoom
+more realistic, immersive world design (not every planet in the galaxy is habitable like in Star Wars!)
+ very free and open world design, you feel like exploring an environment that is part ofa greater galaxy rather than just going from A to B in linear levels
-however, world design with unrealistic steep cliffs in many cases
-points of interest often on top of those cliffs
-not enough diversity in the world design
- vehicle controls like a bathtub, filled with water
- almost useless thrusters, should have been implemented like the jump of the hammerhead
Overall I prefer the more realistic and immersive approach in ME1s planetary exploration, although there is still much room for improvement. The hammerhead does not have the same problems as the MAKO but completely misses the point in my opinion.
