It's one of those things where everyone complained about the Mako after the first one came out and then when they try something new everyone wants the Mako back. I'm sure there will be things in ME2 that people complained about that they will be screaming to come back after they play ME3 and realise they changed it. I like the Hammerhead i'd rarther something with weak armor that makes the game challanging to play than something that controls like a micro machine (if you're not old enough to have played that game it controled like butt) that makes the game frustrating.

Yeah, I know what you mean. As a matter of fact, I started a thread a while ago about providing DLC upgrades for the Hammerhead to help with its problems. Whether or not we get them in DLC or in ME3 remains to be seen. Anywho, here is the thread I was talking about. If anyone's interested feel free to take a look.

How about neither. I liked the Hammerhead better, but the weapons sucked and it blew up way too easily.

The Mako, on the other hand, just reeks of utter crap. I never want to see it again unless it turns into a Transformer, in which the bulky design of the thing will have at least made some sense.

"It flies."

"It looks like ass Jacob."

"It's more maneuverable and able to traverse terrain the Mako couldn't handle."

"What about combat capabilities?"

"All simulations have been positive. The offensive systems are state of the art."

"It's offensive alright." He reached back and grabbed the weapon on his back. The yellow symbol on the side made Jacob's eyes widen.

"Wait. You can't fire that in here!"

Look at a post I found:

Took me a while to discover the zoom scope on the Mako.

Took me twelve f**king playthroughs to find that. Games like this need a tutorial.

Nope,
I did miss finding the cannon on the Mako my first couple of times
through the game. It takes quite a bit to kill a thresher maw with just
the machine gun.

CANNON?
Nobody tells me anything!

And people complain about the Mako...

But maybe it's we, the Hammerhead haters have fallen in the same pit? Somebody tell me already if the Hammerhead has zoom, cannon, rotating turret! Anyone?

Considering Mako and Hammerhead require different level design, thats not really an option.

I discovered the mako cannon during my second playthrough, lol.

I hate undocumented features. But hey, maybe there's a "Make the hammerhead better" button, on select or the d-pad or something when you're flying it. Someone should try it just to make sure.

Thats why devs dont bother with paper manuals these days - no one reads those.

Many people had problems discovering the cannon zoom despite using the de-facto standard zoom button.

While I can't disagree to all of your points, Mako was there to set the tune.

Hammerhead felt like Sonic & Knuckles Effect or some other platforming... thing. Definitely not a bad thing... but not Mass Effect... ish.

Aside from its controls which required a precise touch, I like the mako in places such as Ilos, but found planet exploration dull. I got bored getting the mako around some planets. The hammerhead just doesn't appeal to me. Combat in either of them was irritating, at least on insanity.

Mako worked fine as long as planets didn't have High gravity and high friction. The biggest problem with the Mako was the maps and worlds you had to drive them on. Now, this is also the best part of the Mako. I love driving around, but the worlds needed more texture and unique features. I like the Hammerhead controls, but I never had a problem with the Mako's controls. I just want big planets to explore that are less redundant and higher fidelity. I will gladly drive either vehicle to do so.

I feel...arroused.

Also, agreed.

The hammerhead combat is really, really, REALLY underwhelming. Just keeping the fire button pressed from a save distance, behind cover, until everything is dead is not fun at all. And since there is not the least ammount of challenge I feel like I am wasting life time. The movement however is quite fun...until you hit an invisible wall.

Also not beeing able to leave the vehicle when I want is frustrating.

I remember in ME1 there was a situation where the MEKO was almost destroyed and I barely made it behind a hill. Since I did not want to risk destruction of the MAKO, I just got out and sniped the enemy position behind cover. It was a good fight. Freedome and immersion. Yes, please.

Wait...some people did not know the MAKO has a zoom feature and a kick ass cannon? Well, that explains a lot of the hate.

Guess BioWare listened to exactly these fans... And cooked up a vehicle that indeed doesn't have nothing, lol!

Alrighty, another small exercise in wishful thinking. What the Mako needed:

1. Tutorial level. According to the Codex it was a new vehicle to be supplied to the Alliance Marines (Akuze aftermath, *ding-dong*), and it would be totally in-story for Shepard to get a course.

2. Longer thruster burns.

3. Turret orientation indicator, to make it possible to drive while zooming on target.

4. The Driver character. Nothing special, just a Joe Smith kind of guy, like the Intendant guy, with some lines to animate the driving process. Although Garrus would have to find some new place to rummage on the Normandy.

5. Possibility to pimp it out a little, akin to Shepard's armor (and squamates' armor, damnit!!!).

What the planets needed:

1. Better minimap, (and a sub-course to learn how to read it during the Mako tutorial level, with the stress on rough terrain navigation.)

2. More outer bunker/mine designs and indoors configurations.

3. Water, fog, etc.

4. More doodads, like that skull on Maji. Plants where appropriate. Broken equipment. More fauna (possibly with little scripts, like feral varren chasing the shifty-looking cow, etc). Some of these could be shared with the hub world, of course. But most planets could still be left desolate rocky wastelands. Because it's space!

5. Physics: no sound effects (only squad chatter and music) on airless planets, better thruster efficiency on low gravity planets.

Plus a few achievements for driving, mountain climbing and vehicular combat.

@Zula_DFA:

If we add: More flat spaces in level design, that should be about perfect.

I never liked the Mako and the problem only intensified on hardcore/insanity. Both the Mako and Hammerhead require hit and run tactics (unless your on casual/easy then what's the sodding point) going on from that the Mako handled like a lame mule in winter making that proposition frustrating more than fun. I would like to spend resources and upgrade the hammerhead in the near future but I love the vehicle as a whole and feel it was amazingly designed.

Its a shame NO ONE seems to know how to use the HH. I almost feel compelled to put up a video to demonstrate.

The HH is fast. It can do 360 turns in a second. Its speed allows it to be used offensively which is much more fun than hiding and shooting missles from a distance. Ram full speed into your enemies while firing missles continuously. When ramming you take no damage while the enemy takes a lot. Turrets can be destroyed by a single ram.

You need to plan ahead the path you will take and try to hit as many enemies as possible on your run. When all footsoilders are immobile continuously ram into the bigger units until they die. Units that are getting rammed will not be able to fight back.

I play this way on insanity and always manage. Its a hell of a lot more fun and faster paced than the MAKO.

I'd also like to add, for maximum damage lift off the ground before charging your run. I actually managed to destroy a Geth Colossus in one hit on Insanity using this tactic as the sheer force and angle of the impact sent it flying off the platform. Best single Mass Effect moment I've had.
