It doesn't have to be customisable armour for me, just actual combat gear that you would wear in space (it always breaks the immersion for me when I see Joker at the beginning wearing just a LAZER helmet and unprotected arms) for when they leave the ship. I'd like it to be customisable, sure, but just having them have a set of armour would be a vast improvement in itself.
ME3: Do you want squad to have armor for away missions?

Agreed. I'd be happy with just one set of armor for missions, and one casual outfit for lounging about the ship.

Exactly, I'd be happy if they kept the exact same textures for the casual outfits as the one used in ME2 if it meant they had new armour the textures for when the characters go outside in ME3.

I enjoyed all the armor on every squadmate, only wish is it were customizable like Sheps.
In a fantasy setting I'd rather have something aesthetically pleasing for 30+ hours! if you say that the bubble masks and jump suit were a bit off for hazard missions then I wont disagree with that, but I personally just pretended that Miranda had some biotically infused method that made the suit better, and that resolved the issue for me personally!

I think they should all have their own personal armor you can select (in addition to their outfits) at the member select screen at your personal terminal or when going on missions. That way players have a choice, they can either use their "clothing" outfits, or their armor outfits (but their stats should remain the same. No need to penalize players who like the clothing option).
But color customization would be good.

I really hope that the Devs take to heart these concerns of ours. Although in any sci fi game or movie of course realism goes out the window with lots of things in the name of artistic license. But there's a limit to everything, and not having armor for a squad that is regularly exposed to intense combat and extreme hazardous environments really just kills the believability element for this game.
