I think him being a companion at some point is a given, assuming he didn't die at the end of the trailer.

Well, now we know it was Major Coats, the British Alliance Soldier that we get to fight alongside with durign the final push on Earth. He never was a squadmate, but meeting him was a fun moment. He also appears in the Extended Cut DLC.
