I'm still confounded as to how they're handling the mage abilities. Someone told me they were grouped by element, and now it says there's still the original schools. ????

If I'm not mistaken the only thing we knew about magic before this preview was that different elements inflict different kinds of effects. Earth: knockdown/nature damage, cold: freeze/slow down, fire: damage over time, and lightning: stun/stamina drain. Anybody have a link to the Peter Thomas gameplay thread?

However, I believe that the things listed are the basic skill trees. I think we still lack info on the specializations proper, such as shadow/duelist/assassin for rogue.

Could be...they use the german Specialisation word...I just translated^^

Did we lost something about the "arkan" with the translation.does it speak about the arkan warrior or a new sphere of magic?

It simply said arcan. My guess is that they mean arcane warrior but simply used arcan as a short version to say it.

They could have been refering to that one tree that had the arcane bolt, arcane shield, arcane staff, and arcane mastery talents.

I think they're talking about the basic abilities and Arcane means the basic Mage tree (like Arcane Bolt-now Spirit Bolt, and Arcane Shield and those kinds of things). Image IPBImage IPBEdit:  Ninja'd.

Image IPBImage IPBYeah, I remember that too.  He also told us about ten points counting upgrades can be put into each tree total.  If Primal has its own tree, does that mean that each element only gets two spells?  Ick!

In response to the OP's comment on the point about the graphics, I certainly do hope the game looks better than Oblivion, which is years old and open-world.

DA2 s a big step up from Origins in terms of visuals, but it still falls short of AAA at the moment. Sparse environments and unpolished models are pretty abundant right now.

Cone of Cold or Flame Blast...? Tempest, Blizzard, or Inferno...? Fire or Ice Weapons...? Lightning, Stone Fist, or Winter's Grasp...?

I do not look forward to seeing which ones got cut. Image IPB

After seeing this new screenshot, I have to say, Isabela's outfit looks terrible.
I'm having trouble seeing that design as anything other than fan service.

Indeed, I suspect we'll get the same sort of boob and bum closeup shots of her as we did with Miranda in ME2.

It would be really easy to change the colour of her legs, and make it look like she's wearing tights, which would be just as comfortable to fight in and wouldn't be such an obvious attempt to lure teenage boys to play the game.

The fact that we can't change their armor this time makes it worse.

No one seems to be mentioning this, so I will be the first. In the picture of Varric, it looks like it could possibly be Varric's home, based on the dwarven furnishings. And check out that fancy weaponry hanging on the wall in the background. And check out the dragon painted over the symbol of Kirkwall like it's graffiti. Like it's symbolizing something... This particular group shall overcome or overpower that particular group, possibly. I don't know what groups, but considering the first trailer where all the mages seem to be fighting all the templars (or grey wardens, as mentioned in the director's cut) it could have something to do with that.

Image IPBImage IPBI don't mind if some are cut or altered as long as we have a good amount of options within the elements.  I mean, despite the damage differences, there was way too much of a difference between Cone of Cold, Flame Blast, and Shock-if I were making the game I'd probably cut all of them except Cone of Cold and make new, more unique abilities for the other elements.  I just worry that it'll be cut down too far.  That goes for the other schools as well.  I really, really would like some developer clarification on this issue.  I mean, I know there's less overall, but how much less?

Just noticed something, the symbol painted over the Kirkwall symbol looks (a bit) like the Rivalry icon.

It looks more like a toned-down Dragon Age dragon, to me. Like the one on the main website, with people's silohuettes in the wings.

I remember a while back Mike saying something along the lines of "We're to busy to remove any spells, so you'll just have to make do with having more."  Not an exact quote, but it was something like that.

So maybe none of those will be cut.  But I vote for keeping cone of Cold and Stone Fist, I was still using those at the end of the game in DA:O.

That's what Hawk is for...

Not drawing attention to youself because you're a sneaky-sneaky rogue pirate, that's nice too.

Who said she's that kind of rogue? Not all rogues try to go unnoticed, some take the opposite route. Sometime stealth is better accomplished by slight of hand. Get the mark to look one way, say at her legs, instead of somewhere else, say her hands holding the blade.

And...not wearing clothes makes you trampy (replace this with a non-gender-inclined word for "I'm really easy"). I'm just gonna say it. I think the same thing of guys who walk around shirtless because DUDE MY PECS. She's walking around pantless and that says LOOK, HERE'S MY ASS.

So she's aware of her sexuality, there's nothing wrong with that

That may be her personality, but it certainly doesn't endear me to her, nor more than Zevran's sleazyness did. I ended up liking Zevran, but only after getting over his constant "I like sex and bondage and whipping" thing.

That's fine, you don't have to like every character they create, your hatred of her personallity quirks and style is just as valid as another persons adoration. It mearly proves that Bioware's done their Job by creating a character that creates such a visceral reaction in some people.

Also, to those saying we can't change their armor, we've already seen Aveline's armor change and we've been told that you can in fact purchase clothing items as the game progresses. So, perhaps for all you prudes, she can be convinced to put on pants.

*muttering* "Really people, just because she's enjoying what the Maker blessed her with..."

I meant make it full size to see the details of Varric's possible home and the awesome weaponry in the background, which can't be seen very well in the image that's shrunk down for the forums.

...Yes because wanting someone to dress normally for a fight is being a prude.

I just hope you'd be as supportive as a male wearing nothing but a thong and boots.

As for the what Hawke is for: Whose to say every Hawke would even be willing to sleep with her?

Eh? You mean thought that everyone was picking on her for lulz? Well, yes, we do that too, but we were pretty serious about the panty shots thing.

EDIT: You know, I hope they add some metallic shine to Isabela's jewelry. It almost looks like it's made of clay.

Those screens look off to me- its like the colors are way too saturated or something and you have bright bright yellow golden jewelry on Isabela and bright bright red and bright bright blues. Its bright to the extent that it doesn't look like there is any lighting being applied or that everything is missing any shader on the different material types. Everything looks very flat and lacks any sense of texture or depth.

In truth, it reminds me of when you put Origins on low settings on the PC and the skin colors on faces just sort of turn to one flat color.

In Exile wrote...

I never saw the panty shot, so I assumed she just had a short skirt (because that's what her t-shirt looked like to me), so I thought everyone was really saying that her skirt was so short she's basically wearing just a thong.

As it turns out, she's actually just wearing a thong, which is ridiculous. Who the hell goes around in a t-shirt, boots and thong?

Oh, come on man! Thats Hot Rod Samurai! No pants clearly is advantageous in heavy melee combat situations! And since the lack of clothing makes you such a better fighter, I bet her second unique look is just being completely naked! But hey, you can enchant her with runes, so she'll still be able to tank in the buff, worry not. :pinched:
