When I first saw that image I thought of the second, but I don't remember seeing the symbol in DAO, and the only thing that I can think of the top of my head would be the Old Gods, but I'm guessing this symbol means something different, don't suppose the preview stated where Varric was at the time?? (I would check but my German doesn't really go that far)
I thought that was the Kirkwall symbol?

The black hammer type symbol that we also see in the trailer etc behind the red dragon yeah I think that is the symbol of Kirkwall, but I don't recall seeing the red dragon type symbol anywhere else...maybe its anther symbol of Kirkwall. In Exile wrote...

It is. The Viscount likes eagles apparently. But he may have taken some inspiration for the design of his mark from that old Tevinter symbol. As you can see they're a bit similar. In Exile wrote...

Not the symbol over it.Herr Uhl wrote...

I just think it's a hawk.
So why is it a problem for a mature woman capable of making her own decisions to wear what she wants in Dragon Age 2?

I just want to answer this one for a moment
it's not even a matter of "what she want" it's a matter of "what is credible or verosimile". Static outfits are OK as long as they make goddamn sense, an in your face melee heavy fighter (Isabela is a duelist, not an assassin, she gets up close and personal), regardless of how skilled she is, is STILL gonna wear body armor (even if light) in a battle situation. Someone like her who NEVER wears any is either
A: a precog. and therefore she is NEVER hit
or
B: already 6 feet under or brutally maimed
you know what? never mind, this is pointless

It has nothing to do with armour. We're never going to agree on that. I think the issue is just how outrageous it is that she's not wearing pants. I asked my roomate and her take on it is that what Isabella is wearing is a dress that has a cut on the side that ends up showing her thong, but that's still pretty outrageous.

He's chopped a lot of wood to get those biceps. Lots and lots of wood.

Is this a metaphor for masturbation?

How does the pants or no pants make it any more or less outrageous? she's still fighting effectively naked.
Oh, and my guess: the painted symbol is a band of agitators and rebels, graffiting over the current regime symbols.
Ugh... it's an old Tevinter symbol for the Old Gods. It's not just graffitti.Xewaka wrote...

Or maybe they're filled with lyrium that shoots out of his palm (think spiderman) in order to increases spellpower.
I think Hawke will be made into that no matter his/her intentions. In Exile wrote...

That's an interesting take. I wonder how that plays into Hawke becoming Champion. Does Hawke become a symbol of dissent?
