Why wouldn't she be optional anymore?

Eh. Jack wasn't.

Right, but no one at BioWare said that Jack would be optional that I know of. While they have told us Isabela is. I'm just wondering why you think they'd change that.

Oh who said she was optional?

I just thought it was a rumor.

David said she was optional, when people started the "OMGZ NO 4SUM WHOAR." posts when she was announced as a companion.

Liked the preview. March 8th can't come fast enough.  The choice of clothing for Isabella doesn't bother me at all.  In ME 2, Thane's loyalty mission in the interrogation, there's a mention that Shepard's/Thane's clothing has shields built in. The way I see it, in a fantasy world where magic is abundant, one can easily have enchanted clothing which would provide the same protection as the actual armor. So while "Thong of protection +10" sounds funny, in my opinion it's quite plausible and fitting for that specific character. :P

I thought DA was supposed to be a relatively low magic world. If I'm right, no magical thongs beyond the magic she is rumoured to bring herself.

The world is ending...

I do not think thong +10 or otherwise is funny as in haha funny. I mean couldn't they given her some short/shorts or something?...call em angry pants. That would work.

Whooo who turned up the "cranky" dial up to 11 on those Qunari? That is one hell of a crabbyface.

Sten pretty much looks like this in comparison:

...that's.... so adorable...

Had Sten looked like that, he'd be in my party 24/7.

DA:O is high but rare magic.

Why does everyone **** about Isabella's pantslessness? Pardon my french, but who gives a ****? DA:O's style was geared more around looking realistic while (and we have known this for a while now) Bioware has gone towards a more stylized and creative direction for not just character design but everything. And i never really heard anybody complain about the fact that Morrigans gigantic breasts were hanging out in DA:O, And nobody give me the "she is a mage, she doesnt need full armor" excuse, cause there is no reason she should be dressed like a floozie out in the middle of the forest lol

William Wallace didnt wear pants, he wore a god damn Kilt, as with the rest of those crazy Scottish guys. Pants are not integral to swordplay, or to many things, I myself am not wearing pants at this very moment lol

It's not about realism. It's about a certain level of silly. Wallace wore a kilt, but he didn't wear boots and a loincloth.

Yes, but it is hardly silly isn't it? Isabella's boots cover most of her legs and her tunic covers most of everything about her boots, its hardly noticable that she is without pants.

Well if your looking from the side lol.

My point is that its not a big deal and hardly a thing people should complain about, its more silly to be poopy about it than it itself being silly. She isnt the first pantselss woman to invade a game lol

And as the podcast said, the companion outfits will change throughout the game, so im sure all you people who find it silly  and those who are afraid of a little side ass will be treated to a brilliant pair of paints at some point in the game

Isabella would have been my kind of girl when I was young enough to attract her type. Of course, we had no idea there would be something like AIDS lurking in the wings... or thongs.

Have the youth of today become such prudes that you spend nine pages of posts protesting the body of a healthy, if bawdy, young and athletic woman?

Such a shame.

Morrigan had quite realistic and non huge proportions. I don't know which Morrigan you wer looking at. (I'm talking about her default outft not the chasind robes of breast enlargement that I never used).

Is this something recent?  The last I heard, Mike Laidlaw said that outfits would be upgradeable but that it was unlikely they would change in appearance.

To my understanding of the podcast, they would be upgradeable, and appearance would change, but retain the characters style. i believe they mention something on how they would change as time progressed throughout the ten year time span

My recollection is that they said some of them will change, but I didn't get the impression that all of them would

We know that Aveline will be changing her starting clothes for some proper armor, so that definitely counts as changing her appearance.

I hope Isabela or Varric don't do the same though.
