Buying a new computer. Will this run? Sorry I know there's been heaps of these types of questions. I'm just really clueless lol :P

(copying from website)

Intel Core i3 540 Clarkdale 3.06GHz Dual Core 4MB L3 Cache LGA 1156 73W with Intel Graphics Retail

8GB (4x2GB) DDR3-1333 CL9 Dual Channel Memory

Single ATI Radeon HD 5450 1GB DDR3

Windows® 7 Home Premium 64bit

The Graphics card is really weak, it will probably work, but not well.

You will want at least an upper midrange card like a HD5770/GTS450 for a new computer if you want to game at all and keep it usable for the next few years..

Take a look at http://www.tomshardw...grade,2803.html

Shouldn't be, worst case, RAM is very cheap and an extra block or two should come cheap.

RAM is not as relative as processor/graphics card; either it is enough or it is not. This should be fine.

I'm worried about the 7GB thing... sounds friggin short for a game. My other specs are well above the recommended except my ram which is 3GB for windows 7.

Good choice! If you decide to get into it later on, the GTS 450 is VERY overclockable. Same with the i3.

Thanks :o, if I could add more I would but the other 3 slots in my mobo decided to short out. Can't wait to try Dragon Age 2 now.

Do you guys think my new Radeon HD 4650 would be able to handle DA2 at decent (not minimum)settings?

Edit2: I'm just going to rewrite all of the post instead.

I'm going to need some more info. Is it the 4650 with 1GB or 512MB? Is it the DDR2 or the DDR3 version? And is it in a laptop or a desktop?

That's probably a no, but "ATI display adapter (0x9553)" is not a video card,
it's a chipset. More specifically I believe it's a chipset used in ATI's
5100/4500. If I had to guess I'd say it's a no go, but I can't really
tell if you don't give me your actual video card information.

To  get the name, type dxdiag in your run/search window and press enter.

The second tab from the left (upper part of the window) should
say display. Click this.

Now your video card information should  be displayed in the top left corner of the window.

If you give me that information (specifically the name, for example "HD 4550") I might be able tell for sure.

Crap. Almost got all the recommended specs minus the DirectX11.

I only have a Radeon 5670. I guess its still good enough. =\\

I hope my new computer could handle Diablo 3 though...

 Could one of you fine
people please help a noob? Would a GeForce GTX 460 be more powerful
then the recommended card of NVIDIA 8800GTS? All these numbers confuse me :).

Lacking a response from CP via PM, I guess the right place to ask this question is this thread.

In the past BW has outlined the DRM/copy-protection as part of the system specification announcement. But I'm not seeing any mention of it for DA2. Will someone at Bioware be providing information pre-launch about what type of DRM/copy protection DA2 for PC will be using?

Personally I hope they go with the same system as used by DA:O and ME2, and NOT the system they chose for ME1. After the recent comments by one of EA's mucky-mucks (Frank Gibeau?) about online connectivity being integral even for single player games in the future, I'm a bit concerned that we're going to see EA copy ubisoft's insane DRM always-online requirement. But hopefully not.

It will probably be an online activation, like ME and DAO.  Companies (well, except Ubisoft) seem to be gravitating to things like the Cerberus network to combat piracy.  That is, give people free extra content you can only receive after registering the game.  By eliminating a lot of that extra content from pirated games, it serves as a major deterrant to piracy.

DRM only inconviences 1 type of gamer..those who bought it

I can honestly say I have never had an issue.  Even Assassin's Creed 2, which I think goes too far with having a constant Internet connection a requirement.  The worst one I saw was Bioshock 2 with their minimum installs...but you could get them to waive it.

While you or I may think they aren't deterrents to piracy, I guarantee you there are executives, marketing folks and market studies that show otherwise.  Why else would companies invest so much implementing it?

Yup. The 460 is immensely powerful when compared to an 8800 GTS. I have two in SLI, and even with a single one, it was really chugging along at 1920x1080.

They've already said that they've saved a lot of space due to better compression techniques. 7GB isn't that small either, for example The Witcher was only 8GB for the base game.

Actually, I just downloaded The Witcher on Steam and it was 14.5 GB. I know this may be off topic, but all facts should be known.

Only if they're actually facts. That's with all the language packs and other extras. I reinstalled the enhanced edition yesterday and it takes up just over 8GB for the main game.

*cough*
Steam is not a reliable source for getting an idea on the size of a game, not only steam sometimes download extra files which is not necessary but sometimes the files are compressed.

Anyway, by examining the main file directory for The Witcher:EE displays 15.1GB (for me at least, nothing has been added). Besides, the size of a file is highly relative on the type of information stored, quality of the information (for example in images, bitmap; lighter/brighter colours use more space) and compression type.

I wouldn’t use the low storage space usage as absolute proof however I would be sceptical.

EDIT: that reminds me, is the 7GB requriment for DA2 including the signature edition as well??

Would having a nvidia 460 let you play on max settings despite it being recommended for dx11? Or would I be closer to medium or w/e

I'm glad your experience hasn't been bad. B)

There are quite a few folks with rather different experiences though. There used to be a poster on the old forum named Riftguy who got shut out of his legally purchased copy of Mass Effect because he had the audacity to do things like upgrade his video card to get a better experience, and then tried reinstalling windows, and a cooling fan as well. Y'know...really uncommon types of things PC gamers do when trying to prolong the life of their gaming rig.

The Ubisoft approach to DRM means that I simply won't be buying
any more of their games. I don't pirate; I just won't be considering
anything Ubisoft makes while they continue with that particular folly. Not that big of a deal really since Bioware are my favorite developer. And I didn't purchase ME for PC because of it's particular brand of DRM either. If they ever release a PC version of DRM-free ME on GOG or something, I'll buy it.

In any case, I'm hoping that pychocandy is right about it being the same as for DA:O and ME2. But my concern is growing because Bioware normally announces this information along with the rest of the system specifications. It seems odd that they haven't done so this time, and that they have not responded to any queries about it so far.

So, with all due respect Biowarians, what the heck is going on?
