I should be able to play this on high settings, right?

6.13 GB Ram
AMD Phenom II Dual Core N620 (I think It's 2.3 or 4 base ghz, not on my "gaming" laptop right now so I can't check In depth.)
ATI Mobility Radeon HD5650 1GB dedicated memory

etc

At least It runs the original DAO on highest settings. Same with ME2. Perfectly too, no lag, no errors. No problems at all basically.

High? Maybe, we can't tell excactly how the game performs without a demo / release, it is between recommended and minimum requirements.
Chances are that it may only run well at medium with the 1366x768 resolution most new 15" and down laptops have.

An N620 is 2,8GHz. http://www.notebookc...or.31535.0.html

Yeah that's my resolution. Well medium settings Is fine. And thank you.

Pirates copy.. and oppose the social contract that is supposed to be between game developers and gamers.

Too many pirates = no economic foundation to bother making PC games, even if it is not always a lost sale, it is profoundly disrespectful.

Too many is rarely a good thing and i agree it's extremely disrespectful against the developers.

Way to make me want to upgrade a little less than a year after I did, Priestly.

Eh, my system should handle well. Quite pleased with DirectX 11.

Um, YES they do.  Regardless of whether they would have bought it anyway, it is still stealing.  Trying to justify it another way is dishonest.

i guess its time to cancel my pre order..lool 7 gigs?thats not even half of da origins plus the game will be fully voiced(therefore that makes this game 7-10 hours long as i see it).thnx but no thnx.will rent this ****(and it pains me to say that but now im really frustrated on bioware)

No, the smaller size is down to better compression/optimisation according to Bioware. They've already said that it's about the same length as ME2.

The devs have commented on this, as the person above me said. Also, Dragon Age origins had two more fully voiced languages on the disc.

Doesn't hurt to look throughouly through the thread first.

Chris Priestly wrote...

Oh for the sake of bacon. It is
this sort of doom and gloom naysaying that depresses the heck out of me.
"Oh, I don't really understand how things work in the industry, but
7GB is less than previous, so it must be bad."

I shall try to explain in 3 main points why Dragon Age II is 7 GB.

1 - We used a different compression scheme in DA II than DAO (something called "ogg" I am told).
2 - 2 less fully VOed langauages
3 - Optimized mesh data, physics and lighting (which I am told reduces the footprint of environments by close to 75%)

I
know some will still doom and gloom, but the game is 7GB because we are
better at making games. So, now that you have some reasons why the game
is 7GB I hope this will calm some of you down.

Wow...when did we start basing our gaming decisions on the size of the files?  Geesh!  This is a first, for me.

1: That has everything to do with DRM, the Mass Effect DRM noticed hardware changes / installations. Enough and the game gets locked down.

2: I don't agree, and I dont think he does either. Pirates don't give a damn once hackers finds a way to bypass it. And they will.

Im having this problem now after upgarding my Gpu. Do you know if they found a way around this?

According to Stephen Metalitz, the lawyer for the Entertainment Software Association, who spoke at the
Federal Trade Commission meeting on DRM....the way to get around this problem is to re-purchase the media. [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/uncertain.png[/smilie]

Which
is also the message in the ME dialog box  that occurs when your 3
activations are used up, as I recall. And while Chis Priestly made the
claim on the old forums that the message was a mistake, I don't think
Bioware ever actually replaced it with anything else, nor have they
removed the activation limits.[smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/sad.png[/smilie]

I
dimly remember there being some kind of download from EA that increased
the number of activations from 3 to 5 for a number of games that came
out around that time (ME, Spore, etc). So you might want to do a search
on that for a temporary reprieve. But If you've already used it, then
you're likely SOL in terms of legal/paragon options.

I'm not
going to debate the whole DRM dilema issue here. This isn't about
whether DRM is good, bad, or indifferent. This is about what the DRM is
actually going to be for DA2? If it's objectionable, I suspect we'll
only be allowed to discuss it in the less visible off-topic area (again)
and I refuse to be blamed for taking this thread off topic.

Bioware
earned back my respect when they released DA:O and ME2 with a much more
acceptable (to me) DRM system than they did with ME. I will be shocked
and disappointed if they repeat the mistakes of the ME-DRM again.
I
posted my question here because I recall CP stating previously, for the
ME2 and DAO releases, that DRM information would be announced with the
rest of the system specs. He has NOT said this for DA2, but it seems
peculiar
to me that their logic would have changed for the DA2 release. And
since the DRM information has not been announced with the rest of the
system specs, and they've not replied to any questions via PM or via
this thread, and recent public statement by EA concerning single player
games and online connectivity are disturbing to me, I'm getting
worried.

I find it hard to believe that CP, Victor, Stanley, or Mike haven't
seen the question by now. So the silence is disturbing to me.

To
the folks who engage in backhanded insults by stating I'm 'just a
whiner' because I dislike over-the-top DRM, I'm not going to reply
in-kind. That would be against forum rules and I also do not intend to
get drawn into a lengthy debate on the subject in this thread.

I'm
a paying customer and I love Bioware's work. But as a consumer I want
to know what terms and restrictions will accompany my purchases. Since I
pre-ordered both the PC and xbox versions together, I want to ensure
that if I have to cancel my existing pre-order because of the DRM, I can
re-preorder the xbox version alone within the signature edition
deadline. IMO it's pretty lousy customer-relations to not provide the
information until after the deadline for the SE.

Bioware have
said previously that the timetable for this information to be released
is with the rest of the system specs.  So c'mon Bioware. I'm playing
within the rules and this isn't an unreasonable request is it?[smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/unsure.png[/smilie]

I bet you won't see any more install activation limit DRM releases...they just get pounded to death in the media (Bioshock). I would bet $100 it will be similar to DAO and ME2 where they integrate DLC for games that are registered online. I am totally fine with that.

As for ME thats the thing I have used the tool hat they provided and deauthorised mt PC. And I bought a new copy of ME and still it wont let me install. The DRM is a joke.  It means I will never be able to play a full run through of ME as punishment for buying their games.

I straight up will not be buying any game with more DRM then DA.O or ME2.

Cannot wait for this. Any views on my spec against what is required. I meet all the min requirements and most recommended but I was fine with DA1 and ME2 I was hitting 40fps+ on full graphics but I suffered with games like Gothic 4 and Two Worlds 2 I could only get 25fps ish at full settings with SLI active on both.

I have higher specs than all the recommended specs. But I was told I might have to run It at medium settings for perfect gameplay. I think I'll be fine though. I think you'll land somewhere In between medium and high In DAO2 but don't hold me to that.

It's up to you really if you want to upgrade. 40 fps is acceptable for some, but my personal preference is to be hitting 60+ for maximum smoothness. Nvidia's 8000 series are currently three, nearly four generations behind the new stuff now. With a compy like that, I wouldn't be surprised if it was struggling to do high. Let alone ultra high settings.

Yeah, even in SLI...that 8000 series GPU is way underpowered for today's games.

If a new copy of the game STILL won't install, you have other problems than DRM.  In your case, I would suggest going with Steam for your game purchases if you want to avoid DRM.  I have installed ME1 multiple times after system upgrades (OS and hardware) without issue.

I don't know if my processor can handle it. It's um.. 1.66ghz I think, but I really can't afford an upgrade right now lol

Do you guys think it might push through? I play DA:O just fine and a few other online games like LOTRO and Atlantica Online. Or does anyone know where I can find a cheap but quicker processor? lol
