My PC is running a Intel Core i7-740QM 1.73 GHz CPU. It's Turbo Boost goes up to 3 GHz and I can run DAO perfectly, but I'm still worried because it's normal speed is lower than the minmum requirements (I'm new to PC gamiming, this PC was a present). Think I'll be able to run DA2?

Depends on the other specs of your notebook. You can never be sure of how a notebook will play a game until you test it. Some games work better than others depending on the hardware.

I'm only worried about the Processor. Everything else checks out.

The processor is the least of your problems i'd be more worried about notebook GPU's they tend to be quite watered down.

Okay, then. My GPU is a NVidia Geforce GTX 460M 1.5GB. Does that check out?

It should be just fine.

Will Bioware release a benchmark? I'd rather know which settings work best for me before I start the game instead of fiddling during the introduction.

So am I right to assume DA2 is optimized for multi-core processors? That would be great. The first game had crash-to-desktop issues for me, and after looking up a few solutions I had the game run on just one core. The framerate dropped a little but the crashes stopped.

Have Bioware released information about what pixel shader DA2 will require?

I recently bought Mass Effect only to realise my gfx card doesn't support 3.0 pixel shader (ATI -.-), yet it plays DA:O on mid-range settings perfectly fine.

I hope and pray that DA2 can run on pixel shader 2.0!

That has nothing to do with ATI.  It means it is an older generation card.  What card is it?  That would give us a better idea.

Oh, I was under the impression older generation nvidia cards could be updated to 3.0 pixel shader whereas older gen ATI's couldn't?

In any case, my current card is radeon x800 series 256mb, runs DA:O fine as I mentioned above.

The only reason the initial system requirements started off naming the X850 as minimum was the availability of official drivers for older X800s was limited at the time (I tested using Omega drivers, myself).  All of the X700 / X800 / X850 cards stopped support for Dx9 at version Dx9.0"b", which was a PARTIAL SM-3 stage, not the full functionality of Dx9.0"c", and thus, no eye colors for player characters, and no blood spatter effects.

It now appears that support for Dx9.0"b" is being omitted from DA2, but shoot, the X800 is now six years old, which is double what you should expect, so every bit of value, and then some, has been wrung completely out of it.

Thanks for the quick response. I was planning to invest in a new graphics card at some point anyway. I suppose this gives me a reason to do it sooner rather than later!

Thanks again for the help.

I am able to play DA:O on medium (for graphics and texture detail) with no trouble on my laptop. I am unversed in anything graphics card/compatibility related, and I just want to find out if my laptop could play DAII decently. Do you think it would run with my system?

Processor: Intel® Core™ i3 CPU @ 2.13 Ghz
Operating System / Service Pack: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium (64)
System RAM: 4 GB
VRAM: 2GB
Graphics Card: Intel® Graphics Media Accelator HD
Running Directx 11

If there's anything else I should put here, let me know. :D

No. It should still run poorly, as it is supposed to do. It is not a CARD, and is too far below minimum.

Thank you for such a quick reply! I'll see if I can use a friend's computer to play.

Hi,

My computer meets all the minimum specs but am not sure about the graphics card which is a radeon HD 2600 (when I checked my mac's specifications there was no 'pro' suffix). Will DA2 work for me?

Isn't it a little odd that we were all encouraged to pre order *before* they put out the system specs?

Well to be fair they did release the official specs 25 days ago so it isn't like you had to pre-order blind to whether your PC can run it or not.  I understand where you are coming from but in this case you have had nearly a month to either cancel your pre-order because you can't run it or pre-order it and get the "extra" content because you can run it.

If they had held back the specs till after the pre-order deal was over then yeah that would look a bit "fishy" but in reality I think Bioware have been quite decent in getting the specs info out.

These specs were the first I've seen, and I pre ordered when the offer first came out, so naturally I was a little surprised. Thanks for the info.

Only two HD2600 were made, Pro and XT.

XT > Pro, so you will meet min requirements.

Try downloading http://www.techpowerup.com/gpuz/ to find out, the XT will have a 800MHz core clock and give a little better performance.

Edit: Wait is this a laptop? That will make it a slightly slower version of the desktop pro, and thus technically below requirements. Or if it the mobility HD2600XT it should perform between the desktop pro and XT.

How about those spiffy new i7 2600Ks? Think they can run DA2 with their onboard GPUs?

Define "run" in terms of resolution, frame rates, and image quality settings..

They will pass min requirements.. but not more than that.

If you want to play games on your laptop, get at least a mid-range dedicated card like mobility HD5650/65xx/66xx or GT425/435.

I wouldn't count on Intel gpu drivers just yet, games haven't exactly been known for good Intel IGP support. Of course Sandy Bridge HD3000 (only in 2500K and 2600K models, others have HD2000) might be enough for low settings if the game supports it.
