Huh.....interesting that DA2 only requires 7GB hard drive space, while DAO required 20GB and ME2 required 15GB.

Wow...were they really that much?

The size is suggesting to me either the game is extremely well compressed, short, or has extremely low res textures.

And only the first would actually be good in my view.

Seven gigs? O.o
That sounds...questionable. DA:O took 23 GB on my computer and ME2 was 16 GB.

DA2 must be short then. D:

Hmmm... I'll need change some few thing. And, sorry for the stupid question, but what's so great about DirectX 11? I don't really know the difference :<

Whaaaaaat. It'd better be 17GB, and not 7. Or, like someone said, some fancy compression thing happening. Otherwise that'd be pretty neat.

Short answer: DirectX 11 has a lot of future potential but it really depends on how much focus a developer will put into developing the tech.  Read about tessellation (for example).  But at the very least it should give sharper image quality (just google DX 9 vs DX 11 and you'll see differences).

Video Card reference.

Here's Tom's Hardware's graphic card hierarchy chart, dated Jan 11, 2010:

7 gigs? I haven't been doubting this game up until this point, if that's not a typo then something is definitely up there.

Windows 7 64 bit?? That doesn't make sense. Are you telling me I have to get a different version of Windows just to play this game??!

The original dragon age fit on one disk. ME2 spanned 2 disks. Original dragon age was probably compressed 7gb as well.

Right, but Origins fit on to one DVD- yet installed on your hard drive its about 20GB. The 7GB value they're giving for DA2 is the size of the game once its installed on your hard drive. So something is up there it would seem, as even ME2 was about 15GB installed on your HD.

Just going to point out that the 7GB is listed under the 'Minimum' Specs. It's possible that during the install we will have to choose whether or not we want eyecandy. Light and Full installs like the old days?

Mmm.... DirectX 11...

Sign me up! Oh wait.... already did that...

Guess that means it's time to start ordering hardware! YES!

I mean, sure, the current PC might barely meet the recommended requirements (minus DX11) but... really... who'd be satisfied with that?     Posted Image

Doubtful, HD space is relatively cheap. More likely it's either compressed, or there's some other tech advancement that's allowed them to not need so much space.

Seems you're right, Dragon Age: Origins' requirements states 20Gb, so it can't be the size on the disc

Yay, I'll get to play DA2 on max settings! As for the size, it isn't all about the size of what you got, but what you are able to do with it. Or something. Innuendo.

I wonder if that 7 gigs refers to the standard edition or the SE edition?  It sounds like there's only 1 DVD for both the standard edition and everything promised in the SE edition will be via the Download Code.

Original Post for the SE:

Chris Priestly wrote...

This limited edition of Dragon Age II will be available at no extra cost for gamers who pre-order Dragon Age II before January 11, 2011. Featuring over $20 of additional content, the Dragon Age II BioWare Signature Edition includes the full version of Dragon Age II, along with a download code for an additional playable character and new missions, the Dragon Age II digital soundtrack, an exclusive in-game digital armory featuring a variety of in-game weapons and other digital in-game items.
