Realistically a lot of laptops will be left in the dust because of QuadCore processor requirements...

I do have i7 940xm in my laptop, but that's far far from the norm.

Wow...that's a hell of a laptop!  :D

Unfortunately, laptops just do not lend well to gaming at the highest settings unless you own one of the higher end rigs.  The vary nature of not being able to upgrade the GPU and CPU tend to limit them after a short while.

Yeah bought the Alienware M17X-R2 last October, it's done me a great service so far!

Very wrong. Sorry, but please don't bring that amateur quality web site into a discussion where anything serious might be decided. They are wrong so often, it's a laughing stock, and the KIND of stupid errors are unbelievably moronic.

For anyone determined not to learn anything about PC hardware, send them to YouGamers instead, to use the Game-o-Meter there.

Thats kind of a broad statement that is mostly untrue.  I have been a gamer since most people on here have been alive and I don't use it.  But then again, I don't need to.

Yeah those sites are kinda shady. I game on a laptop and they usually don't recognize my mobile version of my gpu. I went and checked it out and was told I'd be unable to play most of the games I've been playing on high settings for the past two years.

You are better off learning about your own hardware and making the decisions on your own. Besides who owns a gaming pc and doesn't know whats in it?

I'm going to join the growing group of CYRI non-believers, the site is not "great quality", barely even acceptable. It's only going to work properly for a select few setups and there's generally no way of telling for the more casual gamer whether you have one of them or not.

If you're buying a gamaing rig, ASUS is the way to go, unless of course you can afford Alienware.

Actually...building your own is the way to go!  ;)
That way you can ensure all the components in your system are quality.

That's probablly true, but for those of us who wouldn't even know where start, I'll stick with ASUS. :)

That being said...I have used ASUS motherboards for years in my PC's.  I haven't used anything else from them, though.

I decided to switch back to Windows for gaming after owning a macbook. For the specs and price, ASUS was the best option. It is a gaming beast and I couldn't be happier!

I am actually a newcomer to PC gaming. I walked in and asked for something that would play DAO and they sent me home with an Asus 500 laptop. I can play full screen on high settings but I'd like to be certain I can play DA2. Can someone please tell me how to check my specs? I've looked under system information but it's not telling me anything about my graphics card.

Edit:  I know it's Nividia but beyond that I have no clue.

What graphic card is it, do you know?

And honestly if you can play Dragon Age I, II will work just fine, it's just about tweaking the settings down. Honestly though if it runs on an Xbox and a PS3 you'll be fine.

Ah, well at least my dreams were crushed by someone with a pretty icon. I just bought this last year soooo PS3 it is then! xD

Edit:  Posted Image  I'm buying it for both, just in case.  If I can't play it on PC, I'll upgrade eventually.  Just not anytime soon.  Rather have it on PC though.  *sigh*

Wait did you say DAO ran? Because if it does (and if it runs well) you might still be able to get it to run. You'll just have to use Mid settings instead of high.

Edit: Hopefully that announcement tomorrow will be for a demo and you'll be able to test it on your rig.

It runs very well. Graphics on high and it only lags a bit if the area is packed. Like where the mages are preparing in Ostagar. Never had any problems other than that.

Edit:  Ah, well, I'd do it only for a test. I don't want to play it till it comes out.

Didn't you mention that you had an Nvidia something earlier?  It is unlikely that you could run the game on high on Intel graphics, so that is why I am wondering if there might also be an Nvidia GPU.

Do you know the model number of the laptop?

Asus U5OF

There is a Nvidia thing in my start menu that says "Installed Physx Engines" the latest one being version 2.8.1

I'd like to know for sure if I can, if I do and what model it is. Don't know how to go about checking though.

I also have the Nvidia folder in my start menu with Physx, but I have an AMD/ATI graphics processor rather than an Nvidia.  I looked up your model number (U50F), and it looks like you have Intel integrated graphics.  Generally, that is not optimal for gaming, but, if you can play Dragon Age smoothly, then I think you should be able to play Dragon Age 2 - thought maybe at a little lower settings.

There are rumors of a demo.  I don't know if there will be one, but if one is released, then you can test your computer.

Thank you for looking into it for me. My hopes aren't too high. I know I need to get a proper gaming computer but this one certainly worked in a pinch.

Thanks again, everyone.
