A laptop is sadly necessary at the moment. My college is out of state, and it would be a little hard to, say, stuff a desktop in my backpack and put it under an airplane seat when I go home for vacation. And I don't think there would be any sort of flight attendant helpful enough to shlep it around for me, so. :(

I've heard that getting the i7 and higher card causes some heating issues, and, as they only come together, will cost a bunch more. I'd like to keep it around or under $1000, but I will go one or two hundred over if  I really need to. I'll think about it, at least.

Yeah, I have been hearing bad things about dell, but....well, I don't know anywhere to buy something like this, and I have experience with dell, at the very least. It helps my mother's job gives their employees discounts. :D

Thanks for the feedback!

The config I said would be under 1000 with shipping, though maybe a little bit over with tax. Like I said, getting a good discount with Dell is easy if you call the right people.

I'm getting the game for PS3 but also have a 50% off code for the EA store so would also look at getting it for PC.

Now I have a Sony laptop though. My question.

Is the PC demo the same spec as the final game? If the demo plays ok will the game also play?

Usually companies try to put out a demo with a near final build, but demos tend to run a little bit worse than the final version. The reason is that the demo was probably finalized a few weeks ago to be released today for gamestop employees, or even earlier. The actual game is still being worked on since Bioware usually announces gold status, so the demo is not a final fully optimized version. Every demo you try usually has a disclaimer that game is not the final version and your experience with it may vary.
So to answer your question, expect the final version to run a little better, 1-5 fps better than the demo.

Running the game high depends more on your GPU than CPU. You can have the fastest CPU going but if your Graphic Card sucks then you'll not get very good quality at high settings. If you run DAO on high settings you should be about the same with DAII  Directx11 is an unknown quantity right now so we'll all have to wait for the demo to get a better understanding of what cards work well with Directx11 and which CPU's can handle it.

I'd suggest just waiting a couple of weeks for the demo then run some fraps tests with different settings and resolutions.

To my knowledge, DX11 won't be available with the Demo.

DirectX 11 is something I'm still a bit concerned about, as well. My current system surpasses everything in the recommended range, except for DirectX 11 graphics, where it's exactly meeting the recommended specification.

I used to play Dragon Age: Origins on 1080p without problems even on my old system. The current one runs DA:O absolutely fluid even with higher AA.

Seems to mean that DirectX 9 will be hardly any problem. But now that DirectX 11 will be implemented, I'm still wondering how it will run with gfx cards that meet the recommended specifications but do not surpass it. Will it be fun on 1080p with full details? Will have to wait till the release or first reviews of the release version to find out...

Oh, the wait... SE where are you? ^_^

Well that's a shame i was hoping it would be just for testing. It'd be easier to do testing and optimise to save time when i get the game so i don't have to mess around with settings and fraps to get the best quality and performence balance.I guess we'll see but it's hard to say about performence since it seems to vary with games one game might be poor with my GPU on DirectX11 while another works quite well.

Two things have pushed the evolution of computers and the Internet: porn and video games.

(side note: or porn *in* video games)

Time to get a DirectX 11 video card, I guess. The first generation with DirectX 11 support is cheap right now.

I have a DirectX 11 card in the recommended range, I'm just wondering how well it will run with a card that's exactly meeting the recommended specification while not surpassing it.

Given the requirements, it should do well... but does that meen cranked up, 1080p and 4x AA or does it mean 1080p, no aa, reduced settings? That's why DX11 in the demo would have been a great thing to know it early.

While I already preordered the SE, knowing early if it runs great would have made the thrill of anticipation towards the full version even bigger. Now it's just hoping the best and not knowing it.

I don't think the game fill have pure/true/full DX11 support. That DX11 is a part of advertising, to be up the date with the other games with DX11 support. It will run very smooth on a DX11 entry-level video card, and higher, like mainstream, or high-end. Don't worry.

Sounds good. Thanks for keeping my hopes up! B)

And remembering that Mike Laidlaw explicitly stated in the live stream that they worked together with ATI / AMD, I presume it should run well on my HD 5850, given that it seems to be a bit faster then the GTX 460,

The only special edition is the Signature Edition, which was available on all platforms if you preordered before the cut off date.

Assuming you have a 460, you should be good.  Fermi cards perform extremely well in DX11, at least as far as tessellation is concerned.

HD 5850 it is, see 5 posts ago. ;)

But as I said, Bioware seems to have worked with AMD on graphics engine optimizations, so that could even be an advantage.

I bought DA2 for the 360 back in December. I just built my own PC though(first one, its a lot of fun), Phenom 2 Quad Core 955, HD Radeon 5770 4gb ram. I also bough Origins ultimate edition and the witcher for it. Im going to see how it plays, I might get DA2 for the pc too.

What company?  If you ordered directly from HP, who doesn't even stock the Envy 13 anymore, then you should be able to call customer service and get the correct model as a replacement.  If you ordered the Envy 14 from another retailer, they should still be required to give you that model.

Wow mine Is much better and just a bit more expensive. (not envy though.) I have 2.8ghz dual-core, ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650. 6.14GB ram. Mine cost 1504$.

Edit: Never mind, read your post a bit quickly. Just realized you ordered the wrong one. Anyway like he said contact HP or the retailer you bought it from and you should get the right model, because you have the rights to do so and recieve what you request In a situation like that.

I have an ATI 5770 which supports Direct X 11. Although, I noticed in the requirements for Direct X 11 you need a 5850? Is my 5770 not beefy enough to support Dragon Age 2 Direct X 11?
