I purchased dragon age II today. My CPU meets the requirements. I have windows Vista with SP2. There were no problems installing the game. However, it will not play. When I hit the play button, I keep getting a message saying that Dragon Age II is not responding and that Windows will check for a solution. What is going wrong???

The same thing happened to me. I solved it by going into the configuration and switching it from DX11 rendering to DX9 rendering. After that it worked just fine. I don't know if that will solve your problem, but it might be worth a shot.

A benchmark review of DA2. Looks like DA2 is heavily optimized to AMD cards. No surprise there since it's one of AMD's Gaming Evolved -titles (the same as Nvidias The Way It's Meant to Be Played).

You'l need to define what "proper" means to you, first.

For that Apple PC, the 330 is fairly weak sauce, but it does beat the minimum, if that (Low Settings) suits you.

There is a PC Tech forum open now to check that in. The GT 240 was sold in a "regular" and a "crippled" version. The one with the slow RAM wouldn't be satisfactory, I'm certain. The other one was fairly good a couple of years ago, while it was new, although it couldn't quite match the HD 4650 from AMD, and was priced higher than the 4650 was.

The better GT 240 could almost certainly run the game with a majority of quality settings on Medium.

Hmm thats funny, I have a SLI GTX 580 system and the mighty Dragon Age 2 seems to be way too much for my system to handle... I can only get about 20fps with DX11. LOL, so unbelieviably broken!  Fix your game please!

If what I think happened is close to right, they decided to let nVIDIA verify and make recommendations for the Dx11, and relied on nVIDIA to tell the truth, which as nVIDIA's performance the last several years has shown, just isn't practical.

Just in case someone else has similar specs, the NVIDIA Quadro FX 1700 (512MB) does work for Dragon Age 2. Of course I play with lowest settings on 1440x900.

I would say that your freeze ups are most probably caused by not having a dx11 card ? Unless i missed something i thought a GTX 275 was dx10, i know it can use some features of dx11 but normally with problems, maybe alter the settings in dx11 ? other than that normally when alot is going on at anyone time your computer will start too work harder (fans etc) make sure they are dust free, check your temps when there is a battle etc.
Btw i`m not assuming you don`t know anything about temps and game freezing but it`s worth pointing out. In my experience one of the main causes of games freezing /  shutting down etc is dusty cases, check your fan is working on your gtx also.

I have a highend setup and because my highend video card is nvidia, my performance is like that of a minimum spec machine, its not fun running in dx9 mode on a system that should be able to handle dx11 with each.

So, i guess i will just go to a different game and play another dx11 game, AvP maybe or something or Civilization 5....both of which utilize dx11 far better then this game does, not moaning or anything, i am just wondering how this got past the inhouse testers.

Okay I have given them time to fix this issue... I am seriously NEVER going to purchase another BioWare game again. Not because I am being a ****y little girl but because I wont be able to run them with Nvidia cards. NOT MAKING THE SWITCH ATI you can eat it (Never had a problem with ATI until this crap). When I build a comp I always go with whom ever is on top at that moment...but now Nvidia all the way! Sorry I am just getting really frustrated and venting nerd rage on the forums...sigh

Yeah but they came out with a patch that fixed other issues first which tells me this isnt thier number one priority.  I also talked to a tech support rep and he informed me that this was Nvidias problem.  I informed him Nvidia wasnt the one that advertised BioWare's product on thier site. =-/

So nvidia is working on a new driver to improve performance under DX11 on nvidia cards, i just checked the nvidia forums, and a mod there just told us that a driver will be available late this month.

Sweeet! Thank you for some information man I apprecaite it.  Now I can go delete all of my raging nerd posts.  I was so excited for Dragon Age 2 and when I saw a broken game all that excitement turned into dissapointment, frustration and anger. heh.  If all goes well, ill be adventuring through Hawkes time line in no time.
