Because sometimes stupidity begs for it.

Anyway...just upgraded to:

*  i7 930 (overclocked to a 950)
*  6gb RAM
*  TB mirrored RAID array

Guess it is time to finally dump my ATI 4890 for one of those new DX11 cards.

only to find out the hard way that da2 will support dx11 but won't use any of these fancy graphical improvments. they trimmed the engine to run better on consoles which use dx9. also with this short development cycle i doubt that bioware added code to the pc version to enhance the dx11 rendering - there was not even time to improve the textures for pc :whistle:

Amusingly i paniced for when ME2 came out then i installed it and it played just fine on my machine in fact even better in many ways to ME.

That's because ME1 PC was a third-party port whereas ME2 was an in-house project.

The recommended requirements are the same as Origins, but it has DX11 now. And i don't think so it's a native DX11, only a small part of DX11 will be implemented in the game.

It support's physx? And what engine Dragon Age 2 it uses? The same as Origins, with DX11 implementation or another engine ?

Only the quad and dx11 missing for all the recommends. Still should run it without any worries. Maybe even better if things work out and I get my new system early next year.

They answered this before... DA2 uses the same engine as DA:O... with improvements, naturally... just like ME1 -> Me2 did.

The engine itself was custom built by Bioware... they didn't use 3rd party engine like they did for ME1/2 (Unreal 3.. or 3.5).

 Yeah, you'll probably be able to run the game on max settings, but a mobility 5870 isn't nearly as powerful as a regular 5870. It's probably closer to a 4850 or 4870.

As long as that's bigger than what I need, I'm good with it.

I need a new graphics card >.<

Well, for directx11 features anyhow. I doubt it's anything super I would want to update right now for. Dragon age isnt exactly the masterpiece of graphics :P I'll wait closer to Crysis 2 before I upgrade my card.

Still nice to see the specs! I am fine in all other areas

HI, with teh specs annonced can some one tech savvy tell me if i can run this game on my laptop ( i could get it for xbox 360, but i want that as a last resort).

2.0 GHz Dual core T6400
4 GB of ram (i have 32 bits vista btw)
ATI mobility radeon HD 4650

I ran DA just fine on high settings, no AA.

You could run it. This game uses the same engine like Origins. So, no worry about it.

Except that Origins supported Windows 7 32-bit and apparently DA2 doesn't. Chris Priestly read the concerns and has commented on the HD size, but not the OS issue, which makes me believe they didn't just make a mistake.

When DA:O came out I was little behind the recommended specs - mainly due to CPU.

My computer died in May.

Fortunetly, a week ago I bought a new one - and it looks like I'm going for DX11 with my brand new HD 6870 :)

i'm still hoping that they made a mistake. 32bit winxp and vista supported but not 7? this is weird.

The game will support Windows 7 32 bit edition. We'll be reworking the requirements text to remove this confusion. All versions of Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7 will be supported.

We'll be releasing more DirectX 11 information as it becomes available (obviously this is still work in progress). If you have any specific questions about that let me know, we'll do our best to answer them.

What sort of things are you guys doing  with DX11? Tesselation, compute shaders? I know it says the recommended DX11 card is a 5850, but performance wise, is something like 5770 not enough for whatever DX11 is doing?

Looking forward to hearing more about DX11:wizard:

Great to read things are cleared up. Now I can gladly preorder the Signature Edition without more doubts other than my G-Card being possibly low end requirement (GeForce 8600m GT 256MB).

I think that's slower than the required 7900 GS, especially because yours is a laptop version. However, you could run DAO on very slow hardware, even on Intel chipsets. I assume you played origins on that laptop and I also assume that this means you can run DA2.

Well I figured since it is 8 series compared to 7 series that the card is more or less on par. I can play Dragon Age on high settings without major hickups (only Denerim Market slows down) so I think I was fine.

Is the card really below the minimum requirements?

I am not good with technics so if you know, tell me.

Seconded. Will those of us with DX10 capable cards be able to use it or is it either DX9 or 11?

The 900 cards are usually faster than mid-range cards from the next generation. The Geforce 7900 GS is about as fast as a Geforce 8600 GTS, which is faster than the 8600m GT. However, there are two things you should consider. First of all, DA2 runs on a tweaked version of the engine used for Origins and I wouldn't be surprised if it actually runs smoother (ME2 runs smoother than ME1). Seconds of all, BioWare/EA makes lots of mistakes, including contradictions, in their system requirements. Take the requirements as a guideline but know that they're not necessarilly a hundred percent accurate.
