You're the GW in charge, if you chose not to do the DR, well, go do your job!

Umm. In my experience it has been how do I convince them *NOT* to kill the Archdemon. Are they standing aside and saying "no, really, you do it" in your game? I didn't know that could happen.
Indeed - I've never had to do any convincing as far as getting one of them to kill the Archdemon. I had to install a mod so I could STOP romanced Alistair from doing the deed when I don't want to leave him at the gate.

As for Logain, you can simply order him not to do it. Logain WANTS to do it, but you can tell him that he doesn't deserve the honor, and that will be that. However, if you don't talk him down, Logain (other than the Dark Ritual) will also gladly fall on the Archdemon for you.

Unmodded (or on console which amounts to the same thing), if Alistair is with you at Fort Drakon and you're in a relationship with him, he won't let his love die: he does it to save you (even after all the effort to oust Anora to put him on the throne). It doesn't matter what dialogue option you choose, Alistair will sacrifice himself to save the life of the woman he loves. It's the one relationship that blows up in everyone's face, especially for the Warden (my poor Solona....Alistair's dead, the previously ousted Anora back on the throne, you can almost feel the gloating....that ending sucked). Even as a friend Alistair will still offer to take the final blow, but you can override him on that. Loghain can be overridden as well.
As for refusing the DR...well....it's sort of hard to weasel out an excuse if your Warden didn't want to become a Warden. But (just for laughs) if it's Alistair and your Warden then Alistair should take the final blow. He may be in the order only 6 months longer than you, but he should still have seniority. If it's Loghain, your Warden has seniority (but I call for a judgement call due to his age

If you're in a romance with Alistair, or he dumped you at Landsmeet after making him king, it's impossible NOT to get him to kill the archdemon, no matter how hard you try not to have him do it. Loghain will still leave the choice up to you, but he practically begs you to let him take the final blow to make up for his mistakes.
You can do it if you leave the King Alister who is in love with you at the City Gates. Of course that creates a very interesting scene. Don't want to spoil it further.

Oh you can. but if you leave him at the gates, as the OP wanted to know, it's kinda hard to "convince" him of doing the sacrifice.

Alistair and Loghain need no persuading to sacrifice themselves; they'll both willingly do it (assuming you refused the Dark Ritual) but with one exception they don't automatically do it.

So, you believe that, having had the option to ensure that NO Grey Warden dies, and having turned down that option yourself, that someone else should be the one to die?
Personally, if I'm going to be the one to turn down that ritual and basically sentence one of us to death, I think it's only fair that I be the one to die.
Of course, I never turn down the DR because, well, to die, or not to die is a pretty damn simple choice for me.

Personally, I think the Alistair sacrifice sucks most of all. No funeral, no appreciation, and even your friends don't seem to give a crap. This is especially odd when it was the king who sacrificed his life.OBakaSama wrote...

This.
Loghain gets a statue and you get to talk about his sacrifice with Anora. With Alistair, there's nothing. Even Wynne dismisses his sacrifice.

What they said! When I tried out that path I was so disappointed he didn't get a funeral or anything.
I think I'm going to playthrough with an Alistair look-alike Cousland just so I can get a shot of him dead on a plinth.
