From my observations, 30 hours is the average RPG length
Maybe on the console, (even then Lost Odyysey and Lat Remnant both took me over 70 hours, and those are the only 2 console games I've bought recently) ME2 was the first RPG I've boughten in recent memory that took me less than 50 hours. Around 25ish I believe for that game.
I don't think I've ever played a game that took fifty hours and I hadn't let it idle while I clean house or something. It has nothing to do with being "console" or not. Different people play different speeds.
Anyhow, this bit of information does have me a bit worried...

my best guess is that there are less locations to visit with more things happening in them.
That WOULD make perfect sense, as looking at the worldmap, from what I can see, the Free Marches is about half the size of Ferelden. And they did say that most of the game will take place within the city of Kirkwall, I believe. So smaller country=less locations, but more content within those fewer locations.
Very good guess, if you take a good look at the world map and see for yourself how large the country you'll have to work in actually is.
Yup- considering that the devs have said most of the action takes place in Kirkwall, this makes some sense. Kind of disappointing though, as there are lots of interesting places around Kirkwall even outside of the Free Marches like Cumberland, and you'd think if the story takes place over 10 years that would give some leeway in terms of going to different far off places.
Yeah....would certainly jive with EA's whole death to single player games quote thats been running around. Have a short-ish main campaign and toss loads of DLC at it. Yuck.Zjarcal wrote...

Just going to point out that the 7GB is listed under the 'Minimum' Specs. It's possible that during the install we will have to choose whether or not we want eyecandy. Light and full installs like the old days?
It would be odd for them to offer this choice when they haven't before.

Game length doesn't bother me too much. However I don't know if I still want to order the signature edition now ($69.99 here in Canada) I think I'll end up waiting a bit.
That's pretty ironic now that I think of it. It's about a third of the size of Origins yet cost 10 dollars more (PC version)?
Yeah...I'll wait to get this when it's about 40 -30 bucks.

Preferably both though, right?
I'm only disappointed, and even on these forums, because I thought DA:O was, for the most part, an excellent game. The best games of recent years, in fact. I am certainly biased towards the RPG-genre as a whole, but I've been playing most worthwhile releases of all genres in a long while, and DA:O is just a better game, for me.
I'm sure nearly all of the people in these forums feel the same way.
You have to know that we are only here because we care. We want a game that is every bit as satisfying and gratifying (hehe) as previous Bioware titles that we know and love. Nobody, however obnoxious or apparently stupid they may seem, are whining/crying/spasming/moaning just for the heck of it. They do it because they care - they do it because they know Bioware can produce something quite epic, if they feel like it.
To them, to me, 7 gigabytes really aren't a lot for the sequel to Dragon Age: Origins. Especially not counting voice-over for the main character, graphics overhaul, (presumably) distinctively different models for the races, etc. etc.

Yeah, when they said it was between Awakening and Origins in size, I was thinking more along the lines of skewing towards Origins, but now it seems like DA2 may be more like 25-35 hours in length. Which for a single player RPG, thats not offering much value, especially considering the PC price hike.
I felt like a shill after shelling out $40 plus dollars on Awakening at launch and if DA2 is closer to Awakening than DAO in length, well, Deus Ex and Shogun 2 will be waiting.

I have no idea how to take this news, is it going to be a short romp like Jade Empire? I liked JE but it was definately no Dragon Age.
If anything this makes me more bummed about the way the game is put together, I wanted to spend a good bit of time playing at each time leap, if you are going to make a game that short I think you should focus on something very specific.
Its just more bad news to me though, I have really only been able to get behind a few of the announced changes, most I do not care for. I dont think I will be preordering the game now, if I hear good things I will pick it up and just cross my fingers that I dont miss out on any characters or locations completely, as in paying a little extra if it turns out to be worth it.

It also doesn't help that 'full price' in this case is $10 more than I'm used to paying for my games.
I know it's a pipe dream, but I hope we get some solid information from the developers on how long the game actually is. Vague statements like 'longer than Awakening, shorther than Origins' and 'depends on how much side-questing you do' don't really cut it when we're looking at evidence that the game could be drastically shorter than we're used to.

I was a bit disappointed in ME2 until I got the DLC for it, while I still have some problems with it, mostly the main story and the whole death/resurrection and working for Cerberus bit, it seemed like a much more complete and enjoyable game once the DLC was installed. Its almost like the DLC was always meant to be a part of the story from the very beginning rather then some fun extra content. I guess I should not be surprised if this is the path they plan to continue taking.
