Short main campaign, followed by nickel-and-dime DLC?

Ding, ding, ding... WE HAVE AWINNER!

I was a bit disappointed in ME2 until I got the DLC for it, while I still have some problems with it, mostly the main story and the whole death/resurrection and working for Cerberus bit, it seemed like a much more complete and enjoyable game once the DLC was installed.  Its almost like the DLC was always meant to be a part of the story from the very beginning rather then some fun extra content.  I guess I should not be surprised if this is the path they plan to continue taking.

DLC is the our horrible future my friend. It is the innevitable way all games will be, Its only gonna get more prevalent and obvious as we go.

Mark my words.. Episodic content is coming.. dun dun duuuun

I don't suppose Tiax will somehow be involved, and eventually end up ruling us all!?!?

I'm afraid that I have to agree with you, though. I'm quite certaint that the future we are facing, too.

Ah true. long winded and drop dead gorgogues cutscenes. Unlike DA and ME where the cutscenes look worse than the rest of the game.

Sure, JRPGs tend to have beautiful CGI cutscenes like FF XIII (which has excellent graphics) but amounts to a shallow experience if that's all a game really has to offer.

Depending on the consumer that can hurt initial sales.  I would have been much better off waiting six months to buy ME2 and playing through it with all the DLC the first time.  I still would have been saying WTF at a lot of points, but would have felt much better about the game overall.

The most optimistic scenario is that the game is very restricted around Kirkwall. Well, either that or optimization magic, but I think the optimization magic argument relies on a little too much optimism.

Only with some games, and more specifically, certain genre's. RPG fans are a discriminating lot.

Yes because you disliking JRPGs mean everyone else dislikes them. <_<

There's nothing shallow about SO3 or the KH series thank you very much.

I fear this is one issue Laidlaw won't be clarifying, for obvious reasons.

Yeah, their silence on this one is deafening, particularly considering that Chris Priestly answered a different question on the specs thread and ignored the ones about size.

I was thinking it would be about the same size as Origins, but the game play would be shorter to acommodate the voiced PC, but  to go from 20gb for Origins down to 7gb for DA2, well, that's almost one third the size.

So, however long you took to play Origins, divide it by three and that's how long game play for DA2 will be.  Or shorter because we still have to allow space for the voiced PC.

Very disapointing, and it really doesn't encourage me to place the pre-order that I've been holding back on because of the lack of gameplay footage.

...Is it just me, or are those specs exactly like the ones for Oriigns?

Actually, now that I think about it, could the fact that we have the exaggeration play into this? That is, the exageration would presumably have new or different content, but that would involve essentially indentical areas. So the game could have 40 hours of content, potentially, in "30" hours of game, because the environments are recycled.

I didn't say that.  I have a good collection of JRPGs for the PS2 (FF X & XII, Persona 3 & 4, Kingdom of Hearts II, Digital Devil Saga, etc).  Anyways..... :D

Huh, yeah outside of the minimum specs being ever so slightly higher and the inclusion of the DX11 support, they are exactly the same as Origins.

Its funny how the "its the exagerrated part" can be used as an excuse to dismiss any negativity about DA2

and by funny i mean maddening

Then what need was there for the shallow remark?

FF13 was pretty damn horrible but to me that was the exception rather than the rule of most JRPGs I've played. Choosing dialogue options isn't automatically so much deeper and more immersive.

Personally, I think it's a typo. The DAO disc comes up as 7.70 GB of data (what it's compressed to). If DA2 is a somewhat shorter game, with added voice acting for protagonist, it probably comes to close to DAO in disc usage.

The sky is not necessarily falling.

Uh...no. Maybe it's a typo but the disc usage wouldn't be up there in the recommended requirements.

(You should notice for every other game the disc size was pretty much what it was *installed* not the actual disc size)

So yes if it's not a typo...:crying:
Please be a typo...please tell me there was supposed to be a one infront of that seven! :crying:

Right, the 7GB value is the size of the game installed on your hard drive. For Origins it was recommended you have 20GB free, and yet that came compressed on one DVD. For DA2, they're saying that uncompressed and installed its only 7GB.

I wouldn't mind that. 7 GB is itty-bitty. Jade Empire was bigger.

I just did a search on the word "length" in DA2 forums and in each and every thread that had DA2's length in its heading, many people posted, but not a single developer responded.

I don't understand why the developers can't tell us how the game's length approximately compares to DA:O? That info will pop up in reviews right after the game ships anyway...it's not like knowing this information would make the pre-order people change their mind :)

If I had to guess, I'd say the game is certainly shorter and by telling us that info, the "mob" would go berserk posting a thousand pages of craziness on the thread that will lead to little productivity.

Thoughts?

Maybe Dragon Age 2 is a grower.

Indeed, a typo or 17GB would make a lot more sense to me.

Someone pointed out to me that Fallout 3 was 6 GB... if that is right then we may be surprised by "size".

Telling us that it is cofirmed shorter all the time isnt going to make people want to preorder more.. WTF would they go around telling us that if they didnt have to.

Its not a typo people..

There was more dialog in Origins by the time you finished Ostagar then in the entirety of Fallout 3.
