For ME3, I think it is essential we have a Hanar/Rachni squadmate. Otherwise there is a blatant descrimination against sapient invertebrate species.

ATTENTION, WALL OF TEXT INCOMING. i'm also not a native english speaker, so be warned.

well, here's my idea for a new squadmate.

human female with m/f LI option.

- recruitment

we would rescue her from some either destroyed/invaded/otherwise impaired super-secret tech research laboratory or recruit her from there because we desperately need a tech specialist for a brand new kind of anti-reaper weaponry.

- abilities

her speciality would be combining of tech and biotics - but quite different from the usual sentinel class.

for example she would combine lift with overload by pulling an enemy in the air and then exploding its defensive shield in an area effect. if the enemy uses regulatr kinetic shields you'll get area overload. for biotic barriers it would result in an warp explosion which would damage biotic shields only without the strong knockback effect.
another ability could be similar to the effect of the arc projector - chain lightning directed by biotics from biotic field of one living being to the other.

some kind of area shield against biotic or tech abilities would be very interesting, too. maybe even some sort of energy barrier damaging enemies when they try to pass it.
some sort of biotic explosion with knockback effect with the centre being the caster for the usual "husks are all over me, get them off me!" situations would be probably quite handy. combine this with vanguard-like jump-ability and this would serve as nice enemy distraction.

maybe she could even pull smaller enemies TO your team - opposite to the "trow" ability - if her target is being under effect of biotic lift, so your team could finish groups of opponents one by one without risking to expose themselves too much. good for situations where heavy weaponry is fired constatly on shepard's team and no one can use sniper rifles effectively.

in addition to this there would be a possibility to let her equip some sort of  exo-skeleton(made for her and still in testing phase, specifically tuned to her biotic field) with heavy machinery which would reduce her offensive biotic-tech powers as a trade-off but at the same time increase her defensive shielding abilities(area shield, personal barriers etc) and allow her to wield some powerfull machinegun or some experimental weapon with huge single shot damage but low shot frequency. the exosceleton would make her less agile and not being able to go into cover as easy as other characters usually can.

so basically you could chose between a "caster" class with loads of tactical uses and maybe synergy options with other caster abilities or a heavy shielded weapon user with great direct offensive power, at the same time providing cover through area shields and barriers but being somewhat vulnerable if left alone in the open.
tactical "caster" loadout would be ideal for infiltrations and boss fights, while exoskeleton would be great for large open spaces with masses of trash enemies storming towards your team.

- backstory on abilities

the backstory for this would be her recruitment from the aforementioned tech laboratory where experiments on various ways on enchancing biotic powers through tech and vice versa were studied. she'd be a part of the research team developing new stuff and a test person at the same time given her biotic abilities and profound knowledge on various fields of physics, biology and computer science.
her equipment would be tailored to her biotic field specifically and and given it's prototype character coulnd't be used by other team members, though there would be a possibility to grant shepard a bonus power of hers or to upgrade some of the team equipment through her research on board of shepard's ship.

- character, LI options, appearance etc

personlly, i'd like to see a very classy, intelligent and higly educated woman kicking major ass using not only simple weapons but some brain power und science. kind of Mordin, but human and female :-) miranda probably falls in the same category, but she is kind of a burocrat and somewhat too boring in terms of ass kicking imo.

the nature of love interest relationship would be based on her very reserved character with strong emotions hiding beneath a wall of steel shepard would have to crack open by various dialog options and actions during his/her missions.
she's basically a woman of very high standards who spent her past years in some quite secluded place with other scientists(and we all know that your usual cliche male scientist is a boring madman only good for occasional obscure comedy factor) being her only company, wishing for some incredible superhero to come into her life who'd be an even match for her but at the same time not really ready to open herself to others emotionally.

on appearance and stuff:
tall and slim, in good shape and trained, but not very strong physically - she's a scientist after all. maybe around 26-27, so she's got some experience in her life and no naivity left.
wears thight body suits fully covering her body while still showing a very attractive body shapes - but not as voluptuous as Miranda's. basically very natural sex appeal similar to Tali's but without the helmet :-) a samus aran type would be pretty nice.

for missions wearing an  unique armoured battle suit(thight again and not as bulky as shepards) providing good amount of agility but with significantly more visual protection than what Miranda or Jacob wear, thus including afull helmet covering entire head. some lights indicating the nature of the armor which serves as amplifier for biotic fields would look quite cool, i think - it's an experimental suit, after all.

exoskeleton - well, no idea, i guess more stuff built on top of the usual battle suit, maybe something like this one(look at the body shapes and ignore the extreme proportions of arms and shoulders):
http://oreno.imouto....-gantz-masariro
(if you are from US, DO NOT click at any of the links on this site, because you might be exposed to some drawn naked chicks somewhere, which is OF COURSE a horrible experience)

- role in missions and story

for missions i'd like to see her not always being directly in your squad but still playing a key role, very similar to how you sent a tech specialist into the tubes on the suicide mission, or used a biotic to created a large biotic fields on the collectors base.

she would be part of missions, making comments, being shown in sequences and videos but playing a passive role from time to time. for example being a gunner of Mako-like vehicle who is operating some prototype weapon while sheaprd does the driving. she could use her exoskeleton armor to stay back with couple of your other team members to protect an entrance while you go deeper in some complex, searching for clues, and then she'd comment on situation on the surface through the com channel.

it would probably even help to build up the LI relationship because not always being able to physically have her on your team while still constantly hearing her voice would make for some interesting interaction.
i could write some more, but this is already too much. if you read it all, thanks for your patience :)

edit: ha, added even more stuff. will be very sad if no one reads it :-(

There are four people I want for squad mates in ME3:

1. Legion

2. A renegade reaper

3. Tali

4. Garrus

1. If they don't keep Tali (especially Tali) and Garrus I will be highly disappointed.

2. "Hey look Zaeed's taking cover, smart guy.... wait.... why isn't he fighting?" Yeah I had that thought a few times. The AI either run right into the enemy's waiting guns or hide and don't come out. My preference would be between those.

3. I think that getting a whole new team would be weird considering that you can spend the whole game preaching about wanting people SHEPARD trusts. Sure you can gain their trust but I don't think he/she will trust a new guy as much as they trust Garrus/Tali/etc.

4. Maybe if you limit the squad numbers, keep the characters but give them new functions on the Normandy. Like so-and-so can provide information important to a certain mission. Or maybe instead of the planet mining from ME2 and the Mako Monster Car Demolition from ME1 you can send teammates out to planets to look for supplies. Then after you get back from an actual mission they can report to you with whatever they did or didn't find.

the squad will be the same as mass effect 2,after i saw the end u still have your squad in the ship and are all focused on the reapers.really there is no point making a new squad for mass effect 3 and seriously it would be boring to gather a squad again.U have the best team in the galaxy each best in their proffesions...all they need to do now and i guess thats mass effect 3 will be about is travel to differents worlds and gather entire ally's...( rachni if u save the queen in mass effect 1,the geths if u choose the paragon path in legion loyal mission, the quarian also depends those wierd admirals, asari - salarian - turian i guess if u saved the council in mass effect 1,and the krogan if u didnt kill Wrex,+ dont forget that LIARA is the shadow broker now so she might have huge connections around the galaxy to help you but i dont think she will be in ur squad since well...she's the shadow broker xd.i would like to learn more about those yahg they seems to be alot more stronger than the krogan and ofc by far more inteligent so would be nice to travel there or have a yahg in your squad or a hanar lol imagine a hanar shooting with 16 weapons at the same time OP!!!! nah seriously for me there is no point bringing new squad members.

I want to see a return of all ME1 and ME2 squadmates that are still a live. This is the end all be all chapter and I want every single person/alien who has ever followed shepard's command to come back and help him for this last mission. I don;t care how "busy" they are. They need to step down for a little bit from there day jobs and take the time to save the entire known universe. Of course for some people there may not be all that many alive squadmates left from the previous game, so new squadmates should also be included. And if none of this can happen, at leat give me Liara as a Squadmate.

I'd personally like it if some of the ME3 squadmates could have been NPCs in previous games and specifically NPCs we could have killed, or refused to help and having to have helped them to be able to recruit them in ME3. Gianna Parasini, Conrad Verner, Kal Regar, and Nitfu Cal come to mind.
Also I want a Batarian squadmate in ME3. I think Bioware hinted we may due to Garrus saying he had a Batarian in the squad he recruited on Omega.
And finally I want them to make a Volus Biotic squadmate. Obviously he would have almost no weapons training (maybe a Pistol) but have to rely on his Biotics.

Also they had better bring back Wrex, Garrus, Zaeed, Grunt, Mordin, Jack, Legion, and Jacob as squadmates assuming they survived ME1+2.

I'd like to keep as many of the existing squaddies as possible, simply cause if you have to go and recruit a whole new team it just renders ME2 redundant.
Possibly allow a few new squaddies to replace dead ones or in exchange for existing ones?
Squaddies to have actual armour and helmets in environments that require it, armour to be moddable similar to Sheps.
More conversations with squaddies - less 'i've got calibrations to do'
More interaction between squaddies ie, conversations in hub areas, random comments when they see something interseting or when Shep does something (dragon age had really good team member interactions), and interactions on the ship - Kotor 2 was really good at this and gave a good idea of the characters motivations, opinions and state of mind.

This I like.

I bet Tali and Garrus will both return as squad mates as they have been in all games so far, i also think Liara will be again for sure, as for who i want, Thane for sure, he is my favorite character by far, and i would love Samara, way hotter than Liara :P

Thane will most likely return, primarily so he can either get cured and live happily ever after with the person his loyalty mission revolves around, or ME3 will be his swan song, where he goes out in a flash of glory.

I want a Prothean squadmate.  Also, I think it would be awesome if EDI could act as a teammate via mobile platform, in a similar fashion to the Geth.  This would of course facilitate her unavoidable romance with Joker.

All living squad members should be present in ME3, although not necessarily as squad members. Assuming ME3's plot is Shepard uniting the galaxy against the Reapers, it would make sense for some of the squadies to return to their species to mobilize them (or, like Liara probably, serve some sort of non-combat role for you).

Ashley/Kaidan should definitely return as a squad member, and I'm willing to bet Miranda and probably Jacob will also do so. While I like Garus and Tali well enough, I'm thinking they should take a step back; they already got to be squad members for two games, time to make room for others. I'd like Legion to stay, if only because I'm betting most of us got him late in the game, and it'd be nice for him to get more screen time.

As for new squad members, I'll echo what others have said, and call for squad members from the previously untouched races: batarians, volus, elcor, and hanar. If Bioware can't get them to work as squad members, it'd at least be nice to see them show up as new Normandy crew members.

I would actually like a Spectre companion. Preferably from an unknown (at the moment) alien species. Preferably male.

like pretty much all the ideas mentioned here, here's my 2 cents worth:

-i love the idea that squadie loyalty is gradually won, as in KOTOR. it would feel more like you EARNED their loyaly, rather than it being a case of "you found/killed this/that after I asked you, so now i'll follow you into hell". (for example zaeed's response after you do his loyalty mission and play it as paragon the whole way - wtf?)

in KOTOR, every conversation felt important, because you just never knew what reply/question would swing someone's loyalty just... that.. little bit further.

don't get me wrong, the loyalty missions was awesome, but that would have been just as awesome if it was just you helping out your crew.

- on the subject of KOTOR, i think bioware really missed a trick with the final chapter/mission of the game. in KOTOR 2 you had to play as one of your squaddies in certain sections of the game while your character was "otherwise engaged". this happened only once in ME 2... can you imagine how awsome it would've been (and i'll keep it general for the 5 people who only just bought the game) if, when you send squadie X on a solo mission, you actually have to play through said mission as him/her to get the job done?

so... more playing as your squad-mates!

- batarian squaddie - cool and probable. with each game they bring in a new species onto the normandy, so won't be at all suprised.

- BLASTO!!! for sure!

- i think they should limit the ammount of squaddies to only 6 to 8.

that way, the character detailing could be as good as possible, both modelling/animation wise (e.g. jack's facial expressions) and story/character development wise.

they will never, ever, ever be able to satisfy everyone by bringing their favourites from ME1 and ME2, so i reckon they'll just pick the few that are the most interesting.

(including a few love interest options to keep the tensions on-board up... if you cheat on ash with miranda for example, have them both on board and watch the sparks fly!)

Every squadmate from previous games will be available again, and some new ones too, like James Vega. There will also be continued romance options and new ones. THIS HAS ALL BEEN CONFIRMED BY BIOWARE, PEOPLE!!! Ashley/Kaidan will be a Spectre, and there will be story missions that seem like loyalty missions, like helping Mordin get a female Krogan. I don't know if Kasumi or Zaeed won't be in it if you didn't get them, but I really hope they are, Kasumi atleast.

You know, there's a reason this forum is (supposed to be) spoiler-free. I for one am avoiding spoilers (/trying to) for ME3 at all costs, so please edit your post for the sake of the few others like me.

Thank you in advance :-)
