What moment in the Mass Effect series was the most emotional.. for you.. the player.... by that, I mean you saw /experienced something in the game that caused a significant emotion to your own being.... be it sadness, elation, excitement, etc.

For me, as someone who has finished both games at least a dozen times as male / female / paragon / renegade and variations of classes, I just experienced my most heart-wrenching moment in ME2 today.

While I've finished ME2 a dozen times or so, I never finished it with a female paragon on a failed run (where Shep dies at the end).... so I finally did it today.

The whole ordeal was hard on me to a degree.. seeing squad mates dies left and right... untill all were dead..... but the end had me choking back an actual tear.

I saw the same death on male shep and it made me somewhat sad, but it didn't draw any strong emotions for me the way seeing my fem shep die did..... I attribute it to Hale's performance in this case... In her death, you can hear how badly injured she is as she struggles to hold on and talk to Joker.....

But what killed me and nearly had me in tears were her last words... and the way she said them. There's a subtle tremble in her voice as she lets go of the Normandy that nearly caused a 31 year old man who has had to deal with death in real life to almost actually cry.

I recorded it and put it up on my channel if anyone cares to see it (though most of you probably have)..... check it out though if you like www.youtube.com/watch

What about you guys? What moments in the game were emotional (if at all) for you? Be it tragic or joyous, etc.

Virmire topped it for me. The first time I played ME1, I seriously OMG'ed out loud when I found out I had to sacrifice a squadmate.

Suicide Mission in ME2. It's one long ride, praying you made the right choices and not having to lose a single crew member. The music helped.

ME 2 suicide mission, in my first playthrough where I lost Zero, Thane and Tali (LI) . There was genuine sadness.

Thane confronting his son Kolyat. It was just such a well written and performed moment. I could really feel the pain Thane felt at what had happened to his son and that he holds himself responsible.

The line "Kolyat I have taken many bad things out of the world. You're the only good thing I ever added to it" is my favorite line in the game.

i think out of all the characters in Mass Effect 2, Thane's reasons for joining Shepard are the most noble.  Just imagine, if you were dying of cancer and knew you only had about a year of life left you would probably use that remaining time to commit every viceful indulgence imaginable.  Not Thane though, he decided to use the short amount of time left to help make the universe a little brighter.  That is inspirational.  Thane is the best character in the Mass Effect series.

When you think Shepard dies at the end of ME1 and the characters are looking sadly at the rubble.

Mass Effect 2, Shepard's death.

Listening to this after you arrive on the Collector Base for the first time.

Faunts did it for me.

Most emotional moment for me was when I saw the Normandy blow up (knowing it before, thanks trailers) because it was such a badass scene.  Speaking of bad ass scenes, end of ME2 does it great too.

Running into Wrex on Tuchanka. It was exactly like seeing an old friend after a long time apart.

Agreed.  Wrex's reuinion was the best out of all former Squadmates.  Ashley/Kaiden whine about Cerberus, Liara seemed kind of cold and distant even if you romanced her.

Wrex on the other hand was positively thrilled to see you, he blew off the business with Uvenk to run up to you and greet you warmly.

A lot of good ones here too... while fem shep death is the most recent and strongest for me, you folks point out a lot of parts that were big for me too... SR2 reveal, Wrex (felt just like casedawgz did)... swearing in as a Spectre in ME1, having to choose Ashley to die, Paragon (successful) ending of Me2, pretty much all of LoTSB.... man, the list goes on.

Been going through my collection of games and can't find any others that drew genuine emotions in me like the ME series has (not to this degree anyway).

Dragon Age had 1 somewhat similar ending (amongst it's several endings)... which won't go into details here.... and while it was somewhat emotional, it was nowhere near as such as ME (though I love that game a great deal too).

I've got three. Can't pick one.

First is when Shepard dies the first time. That could have something to do with the fact I've have a few IRL experiences like that I can relate to. Just hearing Shepard struggling for air in the vacuum of space, so eerie and heartwrenching.
Second is probably after sparing Sidonis, and talking with Garrus. The "Its so easy to see the world in black and white/ Gray, I don't know what to do with gray." line gets me every time. Garrus reminds me of somebody IRL who's a lot like him in every way, and he's been sorta messed up since coming back from Iraq, similar to Garrus experience on Omega.
Third is just one line from TIM if Shepard dies.
"We go on. This was a victory. Humanity will persevere. We are nothing if not resilient."

Yeah i have to agree about the Death and the dramatic pause they did there... Garrus and Liara looked so sad my first play through and Garrus, just came out limping and i was just so sad cause his face was all like shepard didn't make it.

THen In ME 2 when i found Out Garrus was recruitable and figured he was Archangel When that Gunship Mowed him down i went like ice cold I was NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO ME 2 NOT PLAYABLE NO NO NO LIVE!! LIVE TURIAN LIVE!!!

those about top it infact i was so paranoid with tali or garrus death through out #2 my first playthrough i threw my character into harms way and **** slapped the enemies fairly well >> and so i created my incarnation of the CQB Infiltrator.

Mass Effect 1:

The colonist-specific quest "I Remember Me" where you have to talk down a suicidal fellow survivor of the Mindoir raid. She'd been a slave to the batarians since she was six years old, and was more than a little messed up.

The only thing missing was the Wrex bearhug. Why the hell was it only restricted to concept art?

Probably the destruction of the Normandy. I never saw the launch trailer so the moment hit me really hard. :(

It made for a much nicer reveal of SR2 though! :D

You know, I've never seen it mentioned here, but one of my favourite moments is right before the launch of the suicide mission in ME2.

Miranda salutes you.

Here's this character that's been antagonistic towards you the entire time, completely supportive of Cerberus no matter what they do -- barring one moment on the collector ship where she sounds uncertain that the Illusive Man wouldn't do a setup -- and then she's come to realize that maybe you really do know what the hell you're doing.

Every other time Jacob and Miranda are in a scene, Jacob salutes you and walks off; Miranda makes a snarky comment or just shakes her head and walks out. But this is the sign that she believes in Shepard and her loyalty shifts in that moment. She respects what you've done and is following you into the mouth of hell.

A lot of people complain about Miranda's sudden loyalty shift to TIM at the end, but really, you can see it before then if you know what to look for. That's one of the big moments that makes me go 'daaaaang'.

Pretty much this post.

The music (that was linked above) really set the mood during the "briefing" before the suicide mission. Then, the femShep Paragon speech got me pumped and ready to go; I felt as though I really was going to fight my last mission, but, I wasn't scared. I was literally ready to go down fighting.

The most emotionally sad moment for me was during the Suicide Mission in my first run through when Garrus died. To my Shepard, Garrus was is bash brother and when we entered the collectors base I was like "hell yes. Me, Garrus and Tali are gonna take this end boss down!" then we get to the biotic shield level where like an idiot I chose Miranda. Got to the end of the level and just as the door was about to close Garrus got caught by the swarm thingy. I literally yelled "NOOOOOOOO!" then shed a tear. I had to pause the game for about five mintues before I could go back to playing it.

I agree. The suicide mission was one hell of a ride, half of it due to the epic music.

Unfortunately, I came late to the party and had most of ME/ME2's plot spoiled for me, either accidentally or on purpose, so I can't really comment on which part was the biggest tear-jerker for me.

Well, maybe I can. You know that one recording on Tali's loyalty mission of that quarian woman? "Mommy loves you very much!" God, I get all quivery-lipped. CHEAP SHOT, BIOWARE! YOU KNOW I'M A SAP!

Depends on what kind of emotion you're talking about! The event that had the biggest impact on my feelings was the disastrous reunion with Kaidan on Horizon. I dreamed about it for two nights straight afterwards. But Tali's loyalty mission is the only game moment that has brought me to tears. That was the most moving moment in the sense of deep sadness (vs. the visceral shock and hurt of Horizon).
