I know this is about ME and ME2 but the teaser for ME3.

When the Earth was attacked and with London in ruins, I was angry. I was thinking 'Ok now it's personal!'

For me, it's got to be:

ME1:

- First one that springs to mind is the bit in Bring Down the Sky DLC, when you have to choose between killing the Batarian (forgot his name) or saving the colonists. That choice literally stopped me in my tracks, I spent a long time trying to decide. It's a good thing there's no timed choices.

- As someone's mentioned before, the first bit of ME1 when Shep is walking to the cockpit of the Normandy. And you know all s/he's about to go through. Thoroughly inspiring.

- Seeing Saran commit suicide at the end. Actually made me sympathise with him; since he's being used by Sovereign etc. and he realises what's happening, manages to wrestle self-control off of Sovereign, apologises to Shep, and takes the oppurtunity to do what he believes is the only thing left to do.

ME2:

- My favourite was re-uniting with Liara in LotSB, just the banter between Shep and Liara (especially since she's my romance), you can clearly tell that they're old friends. It was brilliant.

- Saving Kal-Reegar (sp), seeing how much Kal cares for Tali I thought was quite touching.

- And of course the Suicide Mission. The tension on that Collector Ship was palpable. But I'm actually quite glad that I took casualties (RIP Legion, Samara and about 50% of the Normandy crew), since it makes it feel more "real" as it were. Makes it hit home that the mission WAS in fact a suicide mission etc.

Either way, if I were working at Bioware (I wish), and saw this thread. It has to tell you that you're doing something right. That their world they created can feel this real, and matter this much to all these people....

My first run through of ME2, I was pretty careless about some decisions. I romanced Tali and got her killed by picking her to lead a squad right before the Hold-the-line sequence. It made Shepard's words right before he left the rest of the crew on that platform and the subsequent battle soooooooo epic.

From ME1, I think everyone pretty much summed all the epic sequences up. Virmire, Admiral Hackett sending the fleet in, Shepard arising from the rubble, etc.

Actually, I find that many scenes in Mass Effect are lacking due to that absurd suspension of time and space. A time limit, when not unreasonably short, helps render a scene more believable and urgent.
Alpha Protocol did a great job in this area.

Mmmm in ME1 it'd probably have to be leaving one of crew on Virmire to die ='( even though its usually Ashely I leave its still upsetting ='(

ME2 my main one would have to be obviously the reunion with your LI on Horizon but the one that makes me cry each and everytime without fail is the end of the Overlord DLC even thinking about it still makes me well up now ='(

Oh just thought of my ultimate fave emotional scene in ME1 the look on Kaidans face when he thinks my female shepard has been crushed and then the triumphent feeling and the telltale goosepimples down your legs as she appears ontop of the rubble and the 'Mission Accomplished@ look on her face =D I loove that.

I'll never forget the moment when Garrus finally finished his calibrations in ME2. There was a mass celebration on the ship. It was awesome. The sad part is that now he doesn't have anything to do...

...j/k ;)

Most wrenching moment for me was on the Suicide mission. I had everyones loyalty except legion. That part when the Biotic Has to get you through the Seeker swarms. Right at the end my heart was going so fast i couldnt breath. He got out alive only to be crushed by a f*#^ing pillar later on.

Moments where I had a giant, idiotic grin plastered on my face and felt like my heart was going to burst:

ME1:

- The beginning cinematics. Gets me every time.

- The first time I went through the Spectre induction.

- Shepard's speeches. This applies to both games.

- The start of the Ilos mission--from stealing the Normandy to Joker's heroic swoop and deploying the MAKO.

ME2:

- SR2 reveal

- Reunion with Wrex

- Start of the Suicide Mission--from going through the O4 Relay to crash-landing on the Collector base.

- Ending cinematics

Moments that made me cry:

- ME1: Virmire sacrifice. It was horrible to watch the cinematics--and when I walked around the Normandy and Kaidan's place was all empty, it really drove the point home. The first time I'd ever cried because of a video game.

- ME2: Normandy crash site. I had a lump in my throat the whole time, and reading Pressly's logs finally made me break down. The whole scene was so full of sorrow, but humbling and beautiful at the same time. RIP Normandy.

Another heart-wrenching moment was during Mordin's recruitment mission, when you find the corpse of that unnamed turian whom the mercs 'quarantined' to stop the epidemic. He was alone and forgotten, stripped of the rights all sentient beings should have, and left to face death on his own. And no-one would ever know. It really made me realize just how horrible a place Omega is.

What if he calibrates his calibrations?

I'm only on my 2nd play through, and just noticed this weekend that you can go around and talk to folks again at the end of Tali's loyalt quest. There's a nice little conversation you can have with him which ends something like this:

Kal-Reegar: "Good luck, ma'am."
Tali: "Please. You can call me Tali."
Kal-Reegar: "I'll get right on that... ma'am."

I agree, though. The loyalty and respect he has for Tali is very touching. And, Adam Baldwin's voice makes it pretty much perfect.

The first time I saw Garrus get gunned down, Normandy SR2 reveal, Shep's death at the beginning of ME2, the whole Tali loyalty trial (wasn't sure if she would be allowed to stay or not if I picked the renegade choice), when on my first playthrough Garrus gets sweeped up by the swarms (chose Thane as the biotic), but the biggest one for me was the Overlord ending. I was truly impressed with the state the brother was in, reminded me of Carcass' "Heartwork" music video if anyone has seen it.

Mass Effect 1-
Leaving Ashley on Virmire.
The Alliance fleet saving the Destiny Ascension.

Mass Effect 2-
Shep getting killed by the Collectors.
Joker and the SR2 reveal.
Garrus getting pummelled by a rocket.
This line from Tali's loyalty mission:

Admiral Raan: "Commander Shepard, please accept these gifts for taking the time to represent one of our people."
Shepard: "With all due respect Admiral, I didn't represent one of your people. I represented one of mine."

Gets me every damn time. Image IPB

Garrus' romance. Made me laugh and had a sweet ending.

Reuniting with Wrex on Tuchanka. Didnt quite bring a tear to my eye, but it did put a big, dopey grin on my face.

In order, my top 5 are:

5 - The Spectre Induction
4 - Shepard's presumed death at the end of ME1
3 - Sherpard's reunion with Liara (Lair of the Shadowbroker)
2 - on my most recent playthrough, intentionally left things undone and watching loyal Garrus get carried away by the seekers.
1 - Shepard's death and rebirth at the beginning of ME2

It's already been mentioned, but for me, ME2 has one of the most genuinely happy moments of any medium I've experienced. When Tali sees you, she's suspicious. When the VS sees you on Horizon, it's anger and accusations of treason. Liara? She's become the Don of Illium... So when I had to go to Tuchanka, I couldn't imagine what lousy reception I'd get. And instead, I got this:
<snip picture>
Really made my Shep's day.

Yeah, considering Wrex has a murderous undertone; he greets you with a welcoming reception while everyone else that was on your squad in ME1 treats you with distrust.

I liked it too considering.

When you have the confrontation with Wrex on Virmire. I always took him on missions with me and now we're both pointing guns at each other and for a reason I can agree with. Definitely a tense moment for me.

And of course my first run at the suicide mission (honestly isn't that everyone's pick).

For me it was having to leave someone on virmire and the conversation with the VS afterwards. Also the VI on Ilos moved me slightly, no idea why. In ME2? hmmm thats tough.... the only thing that make me feel anything was sheps jerkish behaviour on Horizon, or rather the lack of decent dialoge options. Everything else pretty much left me cold.

ME 1: Especially the locker scene, but also the love scene, the atmospheric beginning, the decision on Virmire, the Colonist side quest, and many other scenes.

ME 2: After the interesting intro, the only emotion that game really evoked was anger.

LotSB: The whole DLC is full of well written emotional moments.
