I love watching movies at the theatre. Even watching a DVD on a home setup that rivals a cinema experience can't compare with the real thing. There's no better way to enjoy movies than watching them on the big screen period.

On the flipside though, there are movies you just find torturous to sit through at a theatre. But it can't be helped. You gotta take the good with the bad. So what are your favorite and least favorite cinema experiences?

Here are my favorites:

The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring - One word... Awesome. It was a great film full of incredible moments and the crowd I was watching with were pretty into it as well. I'm pretty sure people watching this in the cinema is pretty similar to how people felt when they watched Star Wars 20+ years ago.

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe - A pretty wondrous time had by all. People were oohing and aahing at all the right moments.

Shakespeare in Love - Screw Saving Private Ryan. This is the film that deserved the Oscar in 1998. Watched it by myself and by the time it ended I felt like applauding.

And my least favorites:

Sky Captain and the World of Tommorow - Ugh. A borefest through and through. Pretty sure some people in the cinema were asleep before the end credits rolled. One of my friends sure did!

Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones - Four words: worst cinema romance ever. Not even Yoda dueling Count Dooku could make up for Anakin and Padme's cheesy romance banter and rolling in the grass. I was cringing in my seat whenever they came on.

Alexander - It started off pretty good. But halfway in I couldn't take it and left the theatre in disgust.

Hm, I can think of any best, I watch only a few anticipated movies in theaters, they tend to be good.

Except when we are watching bad movies with friends on purpose, like Uwe Boll's In the Name of the King, Highshool Musical 3, Narnia 2.

Those were easily the worst of all times.

Ok, let me try.

Good

The Original Star Wars – Long before all of this ExUni nonsense there were Star Wars and they were good… REALY good.

Bad

The Lord of the Rings trilogy - Because when  Aragorn is more beautiful then Arwen you know that something isn't right... Bad acting, bad casting, pointless changes in the story and generic music - I remember being veeeery disappointed back than…
Star Wars 1 and 2 (and sort of the third one, but after the first two I had no illusions left) - Thank you for murdering my childhood, George:(

Hey, the ticket came with a leasehold for a spot in the 9th circle of Hell.

You just can't pass an opportunity like that.

In recent memory, Inception and District 9 were great and rank among my favourites.

Bad experiences recently include Splice and Saving Private Robin (oops...I mean Robin Hood).

Best

Cloverfield. Oh I know that some people hated it and I'm still not quite sure why but I loved it. I watched it and I really felt like I was there.

District 9. I CANNOT wait for a sequel.

Worst

Sword-something (see, I dont even remember the name anymore). It was a Russian movie and if I had known that then I would have never bought the ticket in the first place (Its damn expensive here where I live.$6 + popcorn $3-$5 + something to drink $2-$10) but we decided with a friend that we should go see a movie which we had never heard before and just hope for the best.

Biggest. Mistake. Of my life.

Best: Attack of the Clones. After having an awesome time queuing up for tickets to the premiere, the atmosphere and mood of the crowd was just so awesome. Not so cheerful that they overwhelmed the movie in itself but the reactions were just perfect, it was a lot of fun. Even though it's probably my least favorite of the Star Wars films, it was just marvellous.

Worst: Pearl Harbour. Not because of the crowd or anything but because the film is such a pile of rubbish, me and my girlfriend at the time ended up walking out on it (only time I've done that based purely on the quality of the movie). And as we were standing outside, a (I believe) Japanese couple came out as well looking rather disappointed, angry and were emoting rather excitedly.

Best:

District 9, when I see movies like it, I always get a little sad that not all movies can be as awesome.

Worst:

Star Wars 3, I waited 6 years to see Jar Jar Binks get eviscerated with a lightsaber, and now you deny me George Lucas? Why?

Aliens Vs. Predator Requiem, This movie didn't have any of the scariness I'd expect from an Alien film, the protagonists were annoying, the dialogue was cringe inducing, and the ending was profoundly disappointing.

Personally I never walk out on bad movies, I have to watch to whole thing so I'll feel entitled to gripe.

I'm assuming this is movies that we appreciate watching most at the cinema, not just ourt favorite films.

Best: The Matrix, What Dreams May Come, The Last of The Mohicans, Heat, Road To Perdition, and LOTR Trilogy

Worst: Star Wars Prequels, Surrogates, and Indian Jones and the Crystal Skull (I don't even acknowledge this blasphemus dung as an indie movie).

Worst: Indiana Jones 4, Spiderman 3, Fun with [Richard] and Jane

* - Saw them with my dad and sister, I only ever seem to really enjoy films when I'm watching with them.

Best:

Avatar, 3d, IMAX, all the bells and whistles. I will not argue that it is a piece of artful cinema, it is cliched story with some decent execution, but when you're in a theater with the 3d and the IMAX and all of it, that much scenery porn is enough to make everything seem freaking amazing. Truly a spectacle.

LOTR Trilogy. - I was enamored with all three of these movies in the theatre.

The Dark Knight - Wasn't sure what to expect but I left quite happy and could not get the movie out of my mind.

WORST:

Daredevil - Just...what the hell...why does it exist?

Shutter Island - I couldnt leave because I was with friends, but God that movie was just terrible. I don't even understand how someone as a good as Scorsese could create such a piece of crap.

I saw In the Name of the King in the theater as well it was great fun and entertaining in it's own way. The movie was bad yet I had fun watching it. But that scene where Burt Reynolds going on and on has to be the longest death scene in a movie.

Best: Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade - fond memories of seeing that as a kid.
Terminator 2: First R rated movie I saw in theatres.
Goldeneye: First James Bond movie I seen, and I had a good time seeing it.
Rumble in the Bronx:  Discovering Jackie Chan movies on the big screen (when he still made awesome movies) made me realize how bad western action movies were compared to those made by the Asian action stars.

Bad: Planet of the Apes (Remake), Pearl Harbour, Dungeons and Dragons, Weekend at Bernies 2 - I get suckered into seeing way to many bad movies with friends.
Any movie in the last ten years - I hate commercials in front of movies.

I'm sure people will hate on me, but Avatar was the first movie I had ever seen in 3D at the IMAX and it was the best movie experience I've ever had. The visuals, sound, and 3D was a total package experience. I'm not claiming the story was great or anything, but the actual visceral experience was amazing.

Avatar was the biggest piece of garbage I have ever seen, in theater or out. I've seen a lot of B rated and straight to DVD movies, but Avatar takes the cake for being the worst film. Ever. Complete and utter failure of a film. I still can't believe I spent money to see it. Doesn't help movie tickets where I live are $20 and a popcorn and drink alone are 20 as well.

Favorites:
The Dark Knight - Everybody filled with excitement whenever Joker appeared on screen. Gasps during the hostage scene, people screaming yes!!! after he laughed. Great, memorable experience.

Revenge of the Sith - Loved going to a Star Wars movie and hearing the screams of joy when the music starts. Also going in knowing this was the last one brought such a bittersweet feeling as well. Remember the yells of joy when Yoda force pushed Sidious :). Fun time.

Signs - Saw this with a group of people and remembering the whole theatre jumping out of their seats during the video camera scene. Lol that alone made it a great experience. Good movie too :)
