Can anyone tell me what Audio "Switches" actually do when used in the cutscene editor?

The audio names include "switch" and they are usually a very small bar when placed on the timeline.

Do they trigger something? (Or stop sounds previous to them on the timeline)?

That's a good question. On a few small cutscenes I've done Ambient sounds have kind of gotten in the way of things at times. One doesn't want to eliminate the ambient sounds but perhaps you can turn them off for periods of time?

How did you generate it, Dahlia? Like Beerfish I got it a few times related to ambient sound. It seemed to function as a starter for a permanent ambient sound which logically should not stop during a cutscene, i.e. a waterfall.

Basically when you click on the music icon in the palette, you can call on these audio switches. They are usually named *switch, or *swt. and place them in the scene with the speaker as any audio would be used.

My own intention was to trigger battle music while still in a cutscene, but apparently in game the switch does nothing o.O

@ beerfesh If you are using any type of music or sound in a cutscene there is a way to override sounds in the area, by setting it's ducking properites in FMOD and exporting. (at least thats the way I would go about it since I can't seem to edit parameters in the editor itself)

@yara It's possible that the ducking properties of the sound you used were designated to override all area sounds. (conversely)

Then it is like I supposed...leading to FMOD. Sorry, I have to pass. My experience with FMOD is not far reaching. I did´nt use FMOD for these special ambient sounds; I dragged the sound event from the sound palette.

Oh the sounds that are already located in the game/palette already have their parameters set in the file.

The issue is whether or not you want to reset them. This actually isn't a complicated process. But it also isn't as simple as just making a setting. I find myself with little choice at times and resort to using FMOD for it.

There needs to be a really striped down 'only do this, to accomplish this' kind of thing for Fmod. Just opening that thing up or looking at the manual gives me the heebie jeebies. :o)-->

LOL!

The only thing I ever did with FMOD was use edited music for a cutscene, or change the parameters for sound in a cutscene, and get the sound/music into the toolset.

I went through these instructions, (aside from changing the duck parameters to #duck:music,1000,0,4000,-60 (Primary)for completely overriding other sounds) and that really is the extent of my knowledge. But it really helps when you want to modify certain parameters as well.

Sigh, question still stands. "Switches" anyone?
