I have often wondered about that.

The magical Fade fairies that shine out of her bum summoned it at the last minute.

With that out of the way, Wynne mentions that she was wounded in the battle, so she certainly didn't leave beforehand.
And the presence of the Circle mage who accompanies you into the Tower of Ishal indicates that none of the other mages left Ostagar either.
But there's no way of knowing exactly how Wynne survived the battle without knowing where she was stationed, who was with her, etc.

There is a massive difference between being forced to retreat when the battle is already lost and deliberately abandoning the field without engaging the enemy and the other forces are depending on your reinforcements. Because of a battle plan you yourself devised, no less.
The former a tactical necessity, the latter will get you hanged for treason.

The beginning of the battle.
Where are you getting this information? I never saw anything showing that the darkspawn sought out the mages at the start of the battle. I don't even know where most of them were.

If that's the case, she has set new levels for hypocrisy, going on about Loghain abandoning the king. When she left well before Loghain did. if that's the case.
It is. Loghain calls her out on it in a banter and she doesn't deny it.

Before we start screaming about Wynne abandoning the battlefield, let's remember that not every single solider at Ostagar died. There were a few survivors who managed to get away. The Return to Ostagar DLC even begins with finding one of the survivors.

We do not find a survivor but a deserter at the beginning.

If Wynne did not retreat from the battlefield until Cailan was dead, then Loghain abandoned the field long before she did. After all, Loghain sounded the retreat the instant that the signal at the top of the Tower of Ishal was lit. The flare was still burning when Cailan died. Ergo, Loghain abandoned the field before Wynne was forced to retreat.

I think that Wynne cut and ran for her life, and when she didn't think she'd be called out on it, then returned to the tower after a decent amount of time had passed.

Edit PS: Logain pretty much calls out the circle mages (including Wynne) for abandoning the king when he was very much alive. The others have it dead right.

Wynne may have been wounded but that begs the question of how she survived the darkspawn partrols and avoided them while wounded.
Because she's a capable mage and an experienced fighter.
We might as well debate how Dog got away from Ostagar while we're at it.

Really? That's strange given that LOGHAIN doesn't know how Ostagar will end until the battle starts. Uldred probably just leaves immediately after the battle is over while Wynne tells us how she stays behind to help the survivors.
Loghain didn't know how the battle will end until the beacon was lit.
