Normally, you develop a game for PC to take advantage of the newest GPUs. Then when the console versions are being developed you turn down the visuals. Because a 360 and PS3 just can't compete with newer NIVIDA and ATI GPUs.
They had to do that with DA:O. This is why the Xbox 360 version of DA:O had very bad graphics. Colors weren't as vibrant and it suffered from framerate drops because a 360 just couldn't handle DA:O's visuals. You can't blame BioWare though. The Xbox 360 was released in 2005 and you're getting six year old graphic tech. Makes sense. The PS3 version of Origins was a little better but not by much. At least those of us that had good PCs capable of running DA:O maxed out were rewarded with much better visuals compared to our console counterparts.
Unfortunately, since Dragon Age 2 is being developed PRIMARILY for consoles, all platforms are now limited and hindered by the outdated GPUs of the Xbox 360 and the PS3. Console port.
PERRRISH the thought....
Can we move on now?
No. Making DA 2 a console port is unforgivable.

Anyone that says it's not a console port is the one trolling.
Are you calling the devs trolls?
The devs are trolls? No, but unfortunately the gamplay videos do not back up their statements. There is absolutely no difference in visuals between the console and PC versions and that is a tragedy for the PC community. The current gen of NVIDIA and ATI GPUs run circles around the outdated GPUs of the Xbox 360 and PS3. That really isn't debatable.

I think giving your nerdrage computer access is more of a travesty.
Any matter we just got an official "Move on" from a dev, go voice your opinion in some overly agressive blog or something.

If someone can just mindlessly button mash their way past things aint pausing and thinking overkill? I mean there is no challenge so there for there is no need to be tactical.
And even then i could point out quiet alot of things that look strange and out of place... And the animations being all "bling bling" look meh sadly

I plowed through DA:O without pausing at all either, especially on a difficulty level that didn't have Friendly Fire. Tactics - as in the commands you can assign your squad - work.
"Mindlessly button mash" isn't even a good description of that playstyle.

A high end PC is not in everyone's budget. You don't have anything to be ashamed of, bud. As long as I have the disposable income I will continue to buy the newest GPUs and I will continue to voice my displeasures of developers that refuse to take advantage of them.

Presumably you raise or lower difficulty to taste.KalDurenik wrote...

Personally I'm not planning on playing at a difficulty setting that lets you charge straight in with a rogue and just go crazy-a-bananas.

Yes and i wished DA:O would have more complex combat. Just as i wish DA2 should. But it wont. Oh well.

Right. All games should be made for you, and you alone. Well, and your awesome PC. We get it.

In my experience, the difference between pause-and-play tactics (as in the approach) and real time Tactics-based (as in the preset command mechanic) gameplay is the former has a larger bag of tricks you can legitimately expect to be able to use. It is really difficult - practically impossible without mods in DA:O - to program Tactics for every situation. So you set the basics, your go-to abilities for your team and that works for most encounters, especially encounters with mooks like the one in this DA:2 video.
Where pause-and-play comes in handy is the more difficult encounters that demand more attention.
There's no way Bioware is going to be able to show me this is different in DA:O without spoiling boss fights, because those are the only times I broke out pause-and-play with regularity once I had made the switch to a more real-time game.

Is that taunt? I might actually be persuaded to use it this time around if the ingame animation matches. I mean, seeing as it's Aveline an ass wiggle with a spank would be the preferred taunt animation, but I'll settle for that.

Yeah, and I have a GTX 480, but the problem is that you and I make up like .2% of the video game industry. You can't expect them to focus on 2 tenths of one percent of their target audience.
I would love for this to be a PC exclusive like DA:O, but it still would not be based on those high-end cards. It would probably look about the same as DA:O, which was PC-focused.

I noticed that rogue Hawke hardly made it to the end of the action section. I suspect it's a case where you can play it like an action RPG on easier difficulties but will be punished on hard or nightmare.

Yea, Hawke kept getting pwnt pretty bad.
Maybe he was just a bad build, cause even during the pause-n-play example he nearly died.

That doesn't mean that isn't a good observation though.
