It's also possible the player using the game for the video wasn't playing optimally. Something Brock and I covered in our brief tangent on the Shogun 2 battle report in which the guy doing the demonstrating was simply playing badly. I don't know enough about how DA:2 plays to say for sure, but going all action-RPG on mooks in DA:O wasn't particularly punishing as long as you set smart Tactics.

One good thing about no top down view is that maybe they'll be able to balance difficulty better.

That doesn't mean that isn't a good observation though.

I've noticed that with alot of official demonstrations like on X-Play and stuff they have people playing the game like idiots.

I wouldnt go as far as to say they played like idiots in this vid. Cause everyone else was fine save for Hawke, I still just think he may of had a bad build or Rogues arnt suited for Shock n' awe close combat early on.

I was most impressed by the sword and board animations. I wonder if the 2-hander ones are the same as they were in the pax demo?

I suspect that if Aveline had been sent in and Bethany set to heal her occasionally, it wouldn't have been an issue. However, the warrior moves we saw weren't as flashy as the ninja-Hawke moves.

That also leads me to a different question:

At the beginning of the demo, you can pick from six Hawkes (male and female of each class) all of whom have on a predefined uniform. However, these don't look like the outfits from the console gameplay they were doing at cons.

Agreed.

Though I remember being impressed during Christina Norman's demonstration of ME 2 during the live stream.

It's...it's...it's like Christmas.

Yesssssssss. I'm really loving the rogues' movements. I don't care if they're flashy--I think they look fun and exciting.

(Oh god, Varric's little dwarf run is adorable and we are going to be best friends!)

If there's any criticism, I'm really not liking the "idle" battle animation/pose when they're not attacking. It's a bit jarring. I don't mind the pose itself, but I kept seeing Hawke snap back into the pose roughly, without any sort of organic fluidity. Hopefully it's just something that'll get touched up.

You didn't even need to do that if you built your party even remotely competently, a simple "attack tanks target" was enough to get through 70% of the fights in the game on Nightmare.   I think trying to judge the games difficulty balancing is a little premature, I doubt it's even been worked out 100% yet.  Not to mention we have no idea how old the build from this vid is.  Don't get me wrong, difficulty (or lack there of) was my number one gripe with DAO, but I haven't seen anything (other than conjecture, my own included)  that points to it being even easier for DA2.

Hah, that sounds familiar. Toggles up, heal anyone below 50%, all attack the tanks target and off we go.

The Graphics got changed abit so I guess they figured why not change it up abit?

Or they could've just deicided they didnt like the old ones, the pax rogue armor looked like Duncans without the bottom robe and under armor.

Well combat looked utterly ridiculous and confirmed what I feared it'd be like. I'll wait for a price drop.

I dont want to have to hack away at an enemy 50 times, or get killed by one slash.

I just dont want to be able to toss magic around friends like an idiot without being punished for it >.< It makes it too easy. I want magic to be powerful, but risky. Tossing fireballs around and brushing off is Zzzz

You say this now, but once your beating A** and taking names with your Hawke and some idiot CPU controlled mage starts hurling fireballs at you regardless of friendly fire and breaks up your cool streak you'll change.

I had the same epihany.

So everyone should suffer OP area of effect spells because you're bad at the game?

I think he's saying that since the AI doesn't follow friendly fire rules, it's reasonable to say that the player shouldn't either.

Ding! Ding! Ding!

How come common knowlodge gets destroyed by people stuffing words into eachothers mouths?

Because whiny haters look for whatever reason to make people think like they do.

Sorry, I'm not 14 anymore..

Sorry to pull this slightly back off-topic...

but I just finished that Shogun 2 video and the guy playing was an idiot.  MAYBE if he bragged a bit less he'd pay more attention to how poorly his "strategy" was working.

He could have purposefully been playing that bad, but I doubt it.

What I'd love is the ability to alter an .ini file and make custom difficulties. I like friendly fire but never played above Normal in DA:O.

I, um, don't mind enemies tossing fireballs at me?

1. I find that argument fallacious. Perhaps instead the AI should follow FF rules rather than giving up on it altogether?
2. I was teasing. Thought that was fairly obvious even without a smiley.
3. Common knowledge destroyed...? What nonsense is this? Are you sure you're not 14 anymore?

If someone brags about no longer being 14, a little warning light goes off in my head.

Idk, maybe I am. Last time I checked I was in my 20's but maybe not.

And sorry if I jumped the insult gun, you'd understand given the amount of trolls on these boards. But hopefully the AI will follow those rules but in Origins they didnt, I was just mearly creating the outcome if they didnt.

I think I want to propose marriage to this game.

I mean, I assumed that BioWare would deliver on the 'like DAO but faster and smoother' promise they made for PC combat, but I was grinning like an idiot during the second half of the video when I saw that my old friend Glyph of Paralysis was back. (With an upgrade to work on multiple targets replacing Mass Paralysis, from the looks of it?) Looks beautiful.

I suspect that I'll be playing on Nightmare from day one because I prefer friendly fire; I guess I can always turn the difficulty down if I get pwned. (Hard to believe now that when I started playing Origins I sometimes used to get my arse handed to me on Normal. I guess playing through a game six times will improve your skillz like that.)

Taking it more off-topic, Ive never played a total war game, and now kinda interested to try one out.  Any recommendations?  Note that I might have difficulty getting into Shogun due to the graphics being pretty old
