I think I want to propose marriage to this game.

I mean, I assumed that BioWare would deliver on the 'like DAO but faster and smoother' promise they made for PC combat, but I was grinning like an idiot during the second half of the video when I saw that my old friend Glyph of Paralysis was back. (With an upgrade to work on multiple targets replacing Mass Paralysis, from the looks of it?) Looks beautiful.

I suspect that I'll be playing on Nightmare from day one because I prefer friendly fire; I guess I can always turn the difficulty down if I get pwned. (Hard to believe now that when I started playing Origins I sometimes used to get my arse handed to me on Normal. I guess playing through a game six times will improve your skillz like that.)

I really think they should change FF to hard and nightmare because I think the people who play on hard/nightmare, or people wanting a challenge, want FF.

I would prefer if they just left FF as a separate option and didn't tie it to difficulty level, but I guess that's dangerously close to toggle-land, and I don't want any poor puppies to die.

It doesn't matter to me anyway as I dislike FF and I always play on Casual anyway.

@SirOccam:

Me too. I like to enjoy the game I'm playing, not have to deal with overly-powerful enemies.

But thats just me.

Thank you OP for linking this video.

The combat does look more fluid and that is nice for sure. The classes seem to have more designated combat roles, which can be a good thing and a bad thing.

The only part that made me cringe was rogue-Hawke flipping around like he was auditioning for a Riverdance version of Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome. I know this wasn't a final version of the game so I expect textures and some effects to still be coming...but those animations are harsh. It may be fantasy but it's hard for me to take those attack animations seriously.

The criticism i have is the teleporting of the rogue. I don't see how that happens without magic.

It's an abstraction meant to convey stealthy swiftness without having to account for pathing or clipping.  Awakening had something similar.

Is taunt changed? I noticed she popped it before enemies came close. So does that mean we no longer have to be by enemies to taunt them?

Its not actual teleporting its a stylistic device to show how quickly he is moving.

Give us FF and we'll be really happy about DA2. Right guys?

Whatever it is, it doesn't fit with the DA style

Whats the DA style? Something similar was in Awakenings, they're giving the DA series a big overhaul in style with DA2.

Sure it does. Your rogue didn't actually become semi-transparent when being stealthy, after all. And pretty much every sustained ability had some kind of particle effect we can safely say didn't actually exist in-universe.

Late to the party again, and not even fashionably late *crys into his pillow* :crying:

About Shogun 2, I thought that narrator was at least funny with his false superiority, made the video funny and enjoyable.. Looks to be shaping up nicely, as long as they fix the technical issues that plagued ETW.

About this video.. meh, not liking the combat animations, subjective preference is subjective but nonetheless, I'm not a fan. UI looks bare bones basic. Graphics I'm just confused about as I know they'll scale far higher and from the look of the resolution I'm pretty sure the UI will shrink way down once the rez is cranked up, I just don't know why they chose to demonstrate this on such terribly low settings *scratches head*

Tactical aspects I'm pleased about, camera doesn't bother me badly. Overall it waylayed a few of my fears while pronouncing others such as art style/animations and just general atmosphere worries. I'm still gonna reserve judgment on a pre-order as Hawke looks like he's caught a case of Hong Kong movie clap.

So. Um. That was AWESOME.

Varrick's run is greatness.

Hm, I just noticed something-- when Varric runs up to use his flask attack, he's carrying the crossbow, then suddenly it's on his back again and he grabs it to initiate the attack animation. And when he grabs it, he doesn't actually grab it so much as move his hands through the grabbing motion, after which it disappears from his back and ends up back in his hands. Hopefully this will be fixed. One of those things that makes it look less fluid.

Never was very concerned by the combat, so this gameplay works fine for me. I will probably still play as a mage though. Loved the effect a fireball had on a darkspawn in another vid: Blew everything except his shoes off. Very Borderlands. I approve.

However, the more I see of this game, the less I want to look at it. Graphically: God-awful. FONV did a better job and I'm ashamed to say it. What happened to all the environmental artsiness from the previous game? It's one thing to show a spartan environment for the sake of combat. It's another thing to have it look like I noclipped through a wall in FONV. Why is it SO much worse than DAO? Why do the graphics seem stripped down and unpolished?

So yeah, now I'm going to wait for a 'STFU, game looks great' vid.

PS: Still hate the UI.

I seriously don't understand why Bioware shows off the 'action RPG' combat.

The tactical combat is just so much more fun.

*raises hand*

I found Tactical (as in coming up with your tactics before combat) unpaused combat was the most fun way to play DA:O.  I went to "tactical combat" pause and play for boss fights, though.

I expect I'll mix and match both in DA:2 as well, depending on how much the Tactics system is improved, if it all.

So yeah, I can definitely see the appeal of both approaches.

Did you see my thread that got locked down? I posted high res screenshots that showed how bad the visuals were.

Which Dragon Age: Origins did you play?

Edit:  In terms of "environmental artsiness" I suppose I liked Orzammar and perhaps Ostagar the most.

But the forest was a forest.  Denerim and Lothering were pretty standard towns.  The Tower's only really distinctive features were visible from the exterior that you only got to see across the lake.  Maybe you could say Haven?

I'm just afraid I won't get the signature edition. I prw ordered Dragon age from my local EB games and they don't have it listed and were unsure. the one guy working there suggestEd that all the first copies they receive of the game might be signature editions.
