Bioware, was it so freaking hard to finally release a PC combat footage?

Anyway - yay, I'm back on the boat, looks like combat still can be be made tactical, the only fear I now have is that it may be unnecessary because hacking and slashing is a lot easier...but I'll just wait until the first reviews are in :)

The UI however is...terrible :(

It looks very polished and modern, yes, but it does not fit into the rest of the graphics, it looks "too modern" and not very RPG-like. I just hope that Bioware will add modding possibilities so that fellow modders can redesign the UI and make it look like a "real" one that blends in with the graphics.

As for the graphics themselves, don't be afraid folks, it's just a very early build and it's clear that graphics aren't nowhere near a final state, right now, it looks like a XBOX 1 game ;)

Overall, what I gather from the vid is positive.

There's a few nitpicks that kind of add up though:
- Too quick and snappy animations. Please tone that down, find the right balance.
- Flashing lights and effects from characters performing power moves/abilities (mage spells are okay). Too cartoony not befitting of a grittier, dark fantasy world. I like the more realistic approach.

And there you've just pointed out one of the major problems with fans and fan feedback. You enjoy the realistic approach, I however do not view it as necassary. Even though I've played through DA: O I am willing to accept these changes. This is partially because it feels like an extension of the deathblow animations the DA: O characters would sometimes do, and paritally because the game is being told to us by an unreliable narrator. So now comes the question, who does Bioware listen to, or what do they do with such conflicting views.

I am also not a fan of the UI, but do you think the DAO UI would blend in with DA2's new art style?  I sure dont.  I think you'd at least have to change up the colors.

What mainly bothers me are the icons' flashy colors, they jump right at your face. DA:O did this a lot better :)

For the UI, it looks like it was set to match the general design of kirkwall : sharp, squared, simple, almost ascetic. That's my opinion tought. But i like it. And the portraits on the bottom is a good idea for me, just next the action bar, it seems practical.

Hmm, just watched the video and I have to say, the one thing that kind of stands out as being off are those jumps. I don't mean the Rougue Backflip, I can live with that, but the Attack jump. Someone just out of the stand leaps one meter in the air and three to four meters forwards is just a little too much in my opinion. It was somehow fine in DAO as a Killing Blow in slow motion and all that shiny/gory, but jumping like this every couple of seconds just seems awkward.

My critical two cents on the video, the rest seemed fine, nothing else to talk about in my opinion.

I agree with the guys saying the graphs of the video on the homepage look like ***'t , just downloaded 720p version. I'm dissapointed with the hurclocks , which look awful (at least for me). They have been equiped with items which don't look spectacular.

But I surely believe BioWare won't make a mistake with this topic.

There are incredible changes made in the whole gameplay. It's still similar with DA:O, but it is extremely different. The gameplay is faster and has a LOT of more animations. But, the interface isn'T very attractive..

But it's still in development and I have the feeling it will be great, bcaus I'm more interested in the story.

The UI is absolutely terrible. I don't want giant party portraits and an ugly action bar taking most of my screen space.

Nice vid but could be better :

- Hawke's animations don't fit : too fast, not fluid, not credible. Mage's are cool though

- What the hell do hawke and varric send at 2min, a rock ? a coconut ? Did they have it in their pockets ?

- Not fan of the UI

The worst is that the vid nearly confirmed one thing : No tactical view

I actually liked that. The Cam is just fine for Tactical approaches. Not as bad as many wanted it to be eh?

I had actually prepared myself for the cam possibly becoming an issue when trying to play like the Infinities. I'd prepped myself to compromise with it and just endure and what do i get! This looks like i won't have to compromise at all. Not only that. But it's also much more responsive. (Oh-Shi-! You weren't lying!?!?!?) I'm pretty hyped Bioware. PRETTY DAMNED HYPED!

I am glad that there is still the choice of tactical play, as was expected. What i didn't like was the UI and the graphics look a bit ugly and squary, but i guess this is an early build :) !

Yes, BW, we know you don't like it, but it still looks, nevertheless there is a tactic view, like a hack n' slay. It doesn't fit in in the style of the DA, or the enviroment it plays, and the buildings need a good lightning bloom , if you want to cover the lack of details . A camera in 2nd /near 3rd person view would be more likeable... :-)

Don't know if it's been clarified before, but is friendly fire still in? I know that was a great feature in DAO that made the game a lot more challenging, I hope it wasn't "streamlined" out of the game.

On nightmare it's in but other difficulties as far as I know don't have it enabled.

Didn´t like rogue´s flashy animations. It seems a Rogue here is more concerned about looking cool than killing the enemy. Too many openings. Reminds me of characters in some animes who are there to show how not to do things.

UI seems taken from a SF game.

Correct. I can only recommend every half-way serious gamer to immediately start on Nightmare and hope for Nightmare+ soon )

Will we be able to rearrange the disposition of the portraits and minimap on the final release?

I'm not really surprised to see that DA2 is mostly Origins-like in combat when you slow it down, especially since I've pretty much known this from the beginning anyway. But it was nice and shiny to finally watch it in action.

While the UI doesn't look as cool as the one from Origins, the gameplay looks pretty fun. I'm rather reassured about the combat.

I must say I loved the gameplay, I loved that BW wants to put to rest any decriers of the "dumbing down".
The only thing I do not like is the new interface. The diamond icons and the new portrait part system is not to my liking. Its not a dealbreaker, just something to lament.

this...

indeed the graphics look nice, but the interface... :(
okay, that the new portrait part system is on the bottom left instead of top left is a thing u can get used to, but the color bars and these strong (and non dragon age appropriate) (rainbow-)colors dont fit to the game, at least to the theme of the first dragon age and to the small videos from da2 ive seen so far). these colorbars seem to be very  bumpy (hope thats the right word :D).

the portraits from part 1 with the color"bars" around the portrait were imo much better and more settled.

one small thing: is the font size of the text (describing what the npc's are doing or gonna do) final? imo its a little too huge.
