Just one word after watching combat walktrough:

FUUUUUUUUUUU--

No, no, no, no, no, no, no... What have you done? Soul of classic RPGs and DAO is dead. Im sure USA fans will love so fast, easy, spectacular and full of action gameplay, but what about your old fans? Why do we need any tactic and pauses, if Hawke alone can defeat everyone and everythng? Is this GoW4 or something? Shiiii...

Sad to say, but it's refreshing to get some good old-fashioned nationalistic prejudice instead of the same tired old console vs. PC stuff.

If it takes anything under 5 seconds to get and position and swing a sword against an enemy I'm boycotting DA2 How dare you make combat responsive! I must have my clunkiness. It felt sooo tactical!

Haha, some honest to goodness unfocused antipathy.

I just wish they wouldn't twirl their blades so much unnecessarily. Both Aveline and Hawke do this.

Yeah, I can't help but immediately think of Indiana Jones whenever I see Aveline twirling her sword after every strike or Bethany and Hawke doing their little "flair" moves. Guh.

Hmmm...I remember that several people, myself included, asked for this in the Christmas wish thread. All that was missing was the fireplace and free puppies/kittens.

Really, I dont know what the "critics" or supposedly "Bioware purists" are talking abooout...

The combat looks great. Nothing dumbed down or anything like that from the first game (Origins).

As far as my opinion goes, the key points for me loving or hatingt dragon Age 2 will be the story elements and how well or bad connected those will be with the plot and quest system. So far everything else I see look good.

Keep the good work, guys!!! :-)

Well, United States are one of the biggest and most important markets. It's obvious devs and producers want their game to be bestseller there. And I'm pretty sure DA2 will be bestseller. But not all of us gamers are interested in easy gameplays, where you don't even need to be concious to play. There are so, so many actionhgames, slashers, action-RPGs... don't we deserve ONE old-good-RPG?

I'm not saying DAO was and oldschool RPG with tactical gameplay, but damn - they called it "spiritual succesor to BG." I didn't expect Bio will do THIS to the sequel!

Now I can only put all my trust in Witcher 2. I hope they don't screw it either...

Imma play both tactical and actiony! Depends how much beer I'm drinking.

I love that the video was filmed in Mike Laidlaw's Mind Cave.

I'll leave the nature of the ghosts of games past because it's very silly.

But just out of curiousity, how are these two things related? You're saying that people from the united states, as a general rule of thumb, prefer easier games than people of other nationalities?

I'm curious : was the difficulty level changed between the two playstyle changes, is one fight simply less challenging than the other, or what ? Looks like the approach taken in the second fight (pausing and disabling enemies) should allow to take on significantly greater challenges, yet the result was about the same in the end, with the party taking damage left and right but no losses.

I really liked that. The new art style really does a good job of making the combat look more flashy while still maintaining the Origins feel. A couple of the animations bothered me, but then again, Origins bothered me a little in that way too. I'll just stay away from those abilities. I think, all things considered, it looks great and they succeeded in their goal of maintaining the gameplay, but making the action look more urgent and tense.

Awesome. I'll just add that to my growing list of reasons why I'm obviously mentally impaired. Let's see...gender, nationality, owning a console.....any more before I put my pen down?

The gameplay looks pretty goodish. Not as bad as I had feared.

The new art direction is something I'll have to get used to though. Needs more dirt. :)

@zigghunterslash - My mistake. I was going to write "United States ARE one of the biggest and most important markets." My bad, sorry :]  Now it's ok.

@Anarya - DA2 gameplay isn't " fast, easy, spectacular and full of action"? And fans from USA (and other countries also, of course) do not like it?

Honestly, a part of me had feared that the game would be a lot like the first Mass Effect i.e. a third person action game stuck in an unwieldy RPG's body. A lot of the gameplay in Mass Effect felt off, and unnatural, unlike that of DA:O. Pausing in ME1 didn't feel right either.

DA2 looks pretty decent. The tactical stuff, and the pausing seems pretty serviceable.

I will always prefer a BG2 style of RPG, but this isn't so bad. The best part for me is the camera, which while not ideal, is more than acceptable.

So while I was always going to preorder this no matter what, I am going to be doing so now with more confidence. :)

What has nationality got to do with anything? The country your from tends not to dictate weather you like a particular thing or not. That is down to your own personal taste, nothing to do with countries, unless your country has a brainwash program that gives everyone the same generalized opinions. Sure people from the USA like it and some people from the USA don't like it either, it's all down to personal taste.

Also how do you know it's easy when you have yet to play it?

It's a defensible stereotype in that American movies and TV emphasize action and the ADD nature of audiences.  If something awesome isn't happening on screen, so the thought goes, Americans will turn the channel.  You always know if you're watching a European film simply by the reflective pauses and lulls which no American filmmaker would use.  And of course that feeds on itself in that what you consume starts to dictate what you expect.
