Tactical combat looked awesome. That video completely allayed my fears about combat, at least, if it's available for consoles, too.

It proves that tactics are optional.
Tactics done on the fly are still tactics. Ask any military commander whose been under fire. You might start with an overall plan in mind, but you have to make allowances for changing situations. Simply put they don't have the opportunity to hit pause and consider how too move everyone around. Some people enjoy playing that way, I'm one such person. I like the pause because it allows me to set things up at the beginning and if necassary take a time out if things get too hairy, or if I wan't to set something spectacular up. Otherwise it's all real time.

There are indeed. The new cone targeting marker is styled similarly to the new circle targeting marker.
So the circle is going to stay? So much about making things look better...

What happened to the "lol hack & slash"? Doesn't this video prove exactly what we "BDF" have been trying to say?
*sips from his chalice*
I personally feel pretty vindicated but don't you think you're being a little premature?

I'm sorry, but my main impression from this is the dramatic lighting.
I think they did that to try to make it look like Laidlaw was standing in the party selection screen. This better mean that Mike Laidlaw is a companion otherwise I'm throwing my computer out the window. (Figuratively).

You can pause and switch between characters and give orders on console, just like in the PC version. The left trigger (Xbox) or L2 (PS3) is roughly equivalent to pausing with spacebar on the PC. Basically the same as in Origins. We've also added the ability to issue a "move to point" order while paused, which was missing in Origins.

Wait so I'm wrong? The textures are high res and the FOV big, as any PC game should?
Give me a break. Reeks of console porting.
DAO had bad texturing and small linear level design as well. Bioware usually makes their games so that 5 year old rigs can run them. DA2 doesn't look any different in that regard than DAO does to me.
Yes, but before, with DA:O, it was because of the engine, making the game compatible with a wide range of rigs, etc. Now it's because the game is a console port. Clearly.

Yes, but they were for DAO as well, I was one of those people who argued for battles that actually, you know, required approaching them tactically for DA2 (at least on Nightmare) , but I gave up on that long ago. Of course we haven't seen the game on Nightmare yet either, so maybe they listened to the handful of people around here who felt the challenge was lacking in the original.

It's there but I doubt it'll be as good as the PC version, they added move-to-position icons so you can order companions around but essentially we're getting the same thing as Origins on the console.

Have to say I'm also very keen on the "stealth mode that actually looks kind of hidden" with the smoke. That always bugs me a bit in games. "See, as crouching slightly makes me invisible to the naked eye!"
"Why does there appear to be a concentrated ball of smoke wandering toward us?"
"I don't know, best ignore it and perhaps it will go away."
*Several hours later.*
"That ball of smoke stole my pants!"

Props to you guys, you pleased the old and hardcore (read: me) and I'm certain you've appeased the more action oriented crowd as well.

Some archery animations seemed off, Varric runs like the game is in fast-forward, and other animations were a bit too fast and awkward-looking, like the Rouge's rush. They're too quick to look believable.
Glyphs should also be bigger so we can actuallly see the full extent of the area they cover.

haha, yeah, but at they're actually sort of obscured, especially if its a combat thing rather than a stealthy-sneaky-in-the-dark deal.Liana Nighthawk wrote...
