Because without iso-view, it would be pretty helpful if at least the area of effect abilities wouldn't automatically snap to the center of enemies when your cursor touches them.

Unless this is an old build it's a pass from me, i will wait for the next game from Bioware or buy when cheap.
What are you hoping a "new build" improves?

And again, camera doesn't look like it's detachable from characters, but at least it's pretty high. Can't say how usable it is in closed spaces until I play it.

I like smooth movements or as smooth as possible in my games, not jerky and jumpy like in the video. I don't think the game will be to my taste but i am sure many others will like the game.

So wait... I thought that tactical combat wasn't going to be on console? It is now? (Please say yes, I hate action RPGs)
Tactical combat looked awesome. That video completely allayed my fears about combat, at least, if it's available for consoles, too.
Regarding the console...DA:O had tactical combat as will DA:2 (from the looks of things)

Needs more focus on mages: how spellcasting works in new system, how new camera works in close quarters/buildings, can we cast some spells without LoS?

As tastes go, that's pretty specific. Does it come up a lot, or is it something you're just learning?fchopin wrote...

It looks very cool. The graphics were a little iffy, but I think it may have been the video and not the game-even the Dragon Age/EA logo at the beginning looked a bit blurry for me.
One thing to note: I LOVE how the animations for the spells are varied! In Origins there was a grand total of three animations for all of the spells, but I haven't seen a single repetition so far (from this video, or any leaked footage). That Glyph of Paralysis (glad it's back, btw) casting was soooooooooooooo cool.

Yeah, it was only missing the Yakety Sax for full Benny Hill routine.CruserBoii wrote...
Did anybody laugh at Varric running?
It seems the mechanics seen in the leaked video for the AoE aim, with the camera focusing on the target point, is no longer there. Maybe it's a toggle, but the chance for this... rather small.
Having rather mixed feelings about the animations; there's not just the stop-and-go effect but also pretty visible freezes between the moves or in the middle of it in some situation which look pretty ugly. Wonder if that's because the video capture was running and stressing the hardware, but... well, guess will see.

Going to watch it again now. I was somewhat mystified/distracted (in a good way!) by Laidlaw's presence in the video, going to pay more attention to all the new buttons and such this time.

I hope this has alleviated some fears, for me it's just an even clearer demonstration of how the combat is still very much like Origins than when I played the demo. Really liking the new look for the rogue on the starting screen too!

Glad you guys are enjoying the video (well, most of you). A nice little skirmish to demonstrate how you play.
And here I was thinking that you looked like your profile photo

I did enjoy it, short but sweet as it was.
Thank you and everyone involved in making it so much!
I'm not 100% relieved by far, but I feel a lot better. I'm fairly certain that the combat will be at least mildly fun for me, and of course I'm hoping to enjoy it far more than that.
(and again, it wasn't MUCH to go on, but the juxtaposition of the two examples using the same combat encounter really was a good economical use of time to point out the differences)
So thank you. If only the camera had been played with a bit - but you know, you give a mouse a cookie...

BDF ftw. I'd be a card-carrying member if there were a card of some kind that I could carry.
There's no good reason for NOT owning that descriptor - it's only negative if you are afraid of admitting you were defending BioWare. *shrug*
I was probably all BDF for ME2 and Awakening and all the other ME and DA:O DLC, so...
so what?

Just saw it as well. I do feel a tad better about it. Still think the rogue animations are way over the top for the sake of being over the top just to be different from the fighter class, and not keen on the cartoony World of Warcraft visual make over but pause N play appears to still be a viable way to play, so I can deal I guess. Though I already miss the tactical overhead camera.
Graphically I'm somewhat underwhelmed though, I honestly think Origins looks better than this short footage visually. I didn't notice much of a lighting improvement or any sort of Direct X11 feature set on display.
