I wonder, if a rivalry path is the only way to change his mind about mages, what would a mage Hawke do in the friendship path? Would it be about telling him how much he hates himself? Or herself.

This is what concerns about the rivalry/friendshop axis as well. I'm afraid I might end up having to pay attention to consistency instead of doing what I actually want to do. Hopefully, that won't be the case.

I've been stalking the forum for a bit now, and I'm going to say this: I knew as soon as I read what was done to him that Fenris was going to have some SERIOUS issues about mages. If you consider that every mage he's ever 'served' were likely apostates and did atrocious things to him, it's pretty logical. I don't think that means that Fenris was being insincere with Mage!Hawke. Bioware tends to have some pretty complicated personalities in their games. He probably also knows that when going against a mage, having a mage with you will probably be helpful >.>;

I've had my first play through planned out for quite awhile now. Since I like rouges, my first Hawke will be one. She will also have a warrior, mage, archer combo in her party. Yeah. That means Varric, Anders and Fenris. Because to be honest, I WANT to see the conflict and hear their banter in game. I think it would be hilarious. *ninja's out*

Perhaps there's a bit more of a compromise.  I mean, if you end up siding with the Templars in game rather than the mages, I don't think that means death to all mages.  More that mages are dangerous and need to be kept watch over.  So maybe you convince Fenris that making all mages is too extreme and settle for having them locked up instead?  

Speculation, obviously.  XD

And I really like this new development.  I really didn't think he would straight up want all mages tranquil seeing the small bit we did in the gameplay with him interacting with FemHawke as a mage.  Oh well, this makes it exciting.  I think it will be fun to discover whether you even can have a romance with him as a mage.  We shall see!

But then you're preaching to the choir because they're already gone (more for us ).  There was also lots of rage on Team Anders after his character reveal and VA change.

Personally I think anyone who isn't ready for curveballs with a Gaider romance- or, any of them really- is tempting fate.

I don't think you can call the Tevinter mages really apostates.. sure they are, but not in their 'world'. o.o

I was really excited about playing a rogue, but the last couple of times I have been playing a mage in the demo and it was also fun. I'm not that 'depressed' about playing a mage first, normally my first playthrough is always terrible (I miss a bunch of stuff) and I prefer to do that with a mage than with a rogue.
I'm going to save my 'dream team' set up for my rogue playthrough, so I'll wait till my second playthrough to see the interesting banter between Anders and Fenris.

There's a difference between having your interest in a character increase to having your interest shoot down to 0% because of the information.

Fenris: "Yeah, the Imperium is ruled by these magic-weilding A-holes that think they're greater than the Maker himself, and I was personally and brutally tortured by mages.  In fact it's all I've ever really known because I had my memory wiped but mages in general are a-okay!"  *puppy eye smile*

Hawke:  "Dude, you are completely mental.  I'd want to tear off their ***** and shove them right up their **** with ***** ******* and **** **** ********* so then they'll have to ******** sideways."

I'm quite excited about Fen's pov toward mages. It makes a lot of sense to me that he would feel that way and I agree with some of you guys that the rival-romance probably would be about changing his pov regarding mages.
I planned to make a female mage from the beginning and I'll stick to that plan.

If there's a huge argument between her, Anders and Fenris and they want her to either side with the "every-chantry-related-person-must-die" or the "all-mages-must-be-made-tranquil" opinon I hope she gets the options to smack them both upside the head and call them idiots.

The only thing I'm a little worried about at the moment is if it's impossibe to romance him succesfully as a mage. I don't think that's the case (imagine the fan-rage if it's true) but it would be interesting. Heartbreaking and sad but a very interesting twist.
