Umm cuz he's a hot lyrium infused magical elf perhaps? Why does Storm from X-Men have white hair?
Maybe he dyes it, just for kicks.

He's not over 30 imo. Either the white hair is an artistic choice, and/or a story related one.
I don't think anyone else in DAO has white hair at his age do they?
Cassandra doesn't seem over 35. She has white hair.

Dante from Devil May Cry has this same issue(white hair black eyebrows)... though there's other ways we could tell if his hair color is true...*hint hint* </perv>

It's also what I tried to do with my City Elf (my avatar), but it just looked old and grey.

Flemeth and that Dalish keeper (part of the Dalish origin) she is sending Hawke to in DA2 have that whitish-grey hair option.
Ororo/Storm has white hair because her mother is part of this line of women who are born with white hair and blue eyes. It probably has something to do with the mutation that is carried through her line. Erm..or something like that.

It might indicate that there are more hair colour options in DA 2 since I am fairly sure we couldn't get a really pure-white-but-not-old-looking colour in Origins (or I certainly would have made an elven mage with that colour). Or he could be teasing us with his special "Fenris-only" hair colour (but haven't we seen Cassandra with a similar colour?).

So we can deduct that white is just a cool and mystical hair color, and that it may or may not have something to do with him getting lyrium shot through his veins
Sounds good to me

Yup, I bet it's a side effect of the lyrium experimentation. Something magical or just the trauma turned his hair white. I'd at least prefer this explanation to his hair just being naturally white.Saslic wrote...

Now I'm thinking about that Crash Test Dummies song

OH, DO WANT.
I can better imagine Fenris and Hawke dancing to something a bit more raw, though. Like this.
But I'm obsessed with Zoe Keating right now, so it may just be me wanting that.
I like that song. A lot.
Where's that damn ITunes giftcard-- I think you just introduced me to a artist I like.
And the white hair I'm assuming is from the lyrium. We'll probably find out he used to have pitch black hair and people are going to go: "OH, WTH?!"
I won't. I like it. It's not anime.

And welcome back!
I think his hair color is gorgeous; if I have the option to make my Hawke's hair that white, I'm doing it at one point. But first she's going blonde.
On a random note, I wonder if Fenris' hair is like polar bear fur.

Thank you for welcoming me back!
Polar bear fur: That it's coarse? Or layered?
Hmm, that'll be terrible if it's coarse. Takes away another excuse for my character to try to touch him. Although that would be odd and make her seem immature.
Fenris: Why are you touching my hair Hawke?
Hawke: Because it's soft.
Fenris: *Jerks away* Stop it. I'm not your pet.

Oh, neither; just that polar bear fur is clear, not white. I'm wondering if Fenris' hair reflects light like that, due to the experiments. They might have just sucked the color from his hair's medula. Or whatever it is makes one's hair colorful.
Continuation of dialogue:
Fenris: I thought I told you to stop petting my hair.
Hawke: Well, I'm not petting it or you, exactly.
Fenris: *Impatiently* Then what are you doing?
Hawke: Braiding it. *Mischievous smile*

LOL.
And interesting idea about his hair being reflective. Hawke must find out.
=EDIT=
Different dialogue, based off the hair one:
*Hawke touches Fen's hair again*
Fenris: You know, you should stop touching my hair.
Hawke: Why?
Fenris: I think it could give you lyrium poisoning.
Hawke: Liar.
Fenris: Well, if you start acting funny, don't say I didn't warn you.

Hawke: [Flirty] (Persuade) I'm only acting funny because you're handsome. I don't encounter many handsome elves on a day-to-day basis.
Fenris: (Persuade failed) And I'm only acting hostile because you're racist. I encounter many racist humans on a day-to-day basis.

*Goes and snickers*
This is much better. At least it's not the dialogue I've had in my head all day because of a song.
Hawke: *Glares at Fenris as he walks by* I want to talk to you.
Fenris: The last time we talked, Hawke, I reduced you to tears. I promise you it won't happen again. *Starts to leave*
Hawke: I'll make it simple then. *Smiles* Does this attract you, or does it repulse you?
Cookies for whoever can guess the song stuck in my head.

Evening, Ser Gaider! *tips hat*
I had a feeling Hawke would probably either get punched or get threatened with getting her hands cut off.

The Friendship/Rivalry system in DA2 is replacing the approval/disapproval system of DAO. It's so you can disagree, argue with, or even threaten a companion and they will still be loyal to you to some degree, though there is still a chance some may leave you. Being in a rivalry with a companion can open up romances and new paths or options to learn specializations throughout the game that friendships otherwise can't.
Edit: Aw, love and damnation! Well, I suppose not being able to pet him is for the best.

Well, first he would flinch-- because his markings are quite painful, and doubly so when they're touched. His first instinct might be to punch someone who touched him, though he'd probably hold back if he realized it was Hawke.
Then he would brood.

Hum. I wonder how that'll work out if he's a LI.
*Begins to ponder in a dark corner*
Oh well, I'm probably off to bed in a few mins. I'm saying night now, but I could respond randomly.
So, night y'all!
