Luckily for me, I don't have any commitments (well, besides work) to keep me away from DA2 this week! I'm in Australia though, and don't get it until a day later than the US. Booo. Hopefully EB ships my SE tomorrow so it has a chance of getting here early...!

First thing I thought when I saw this picture? He looks so cute! So yes, he is adorable.

Well, I just finished playing through awakenings again to refresh my memory of all the events. I wanted to see Anders again before DA2 as well to see just how much he has changed.....

I also needed something to occupy me until i can play with Fenris........

I think Fenris will be fun both as a companion and as romance, I am sure he'll make a challenging rival as well. Based on the ss alone I would love to see a whole Fenris novel that predates DA2

I was just listening to this song on my friend's iPod on the drive
home.  Hilarious!  You remind me of one of my best friends at school,
she's really good at making alternative lyrics to songs.   And I got my
call from gamestop (yay!), so when I get back home on the 10th I will be
a hermit.

Okay, here's my prompt for Tranquil, part 2 and conclusion of my Understanding story. Enjoy!

It was late and Hawke was in the study, curled up in her favourite chair, reading a book. Though it was quite a large tome, and she’d only started it a couple of days ago, she was close to finishing it.

But, then again, she hadn’t had much to do since her mother had forbidden her from leaving the estate for a couple of days. Ever since Fenris had helped her home after ‘the incident’, as her mother was calling it, Leandra had been especially protective of her eldest, much to Hawke’s chagrin and Carver’s amusement.

Her friends had come over once her little brother had informed them of her confinement within the estate. Isabela and Varric had found her situation comical, and even Anders had smiled at the irony. Sebastian and Merrill had been more concerned for her welfare, and Avaline appeared to simply be glad that she was alright. And Fenris…

She hadn’t seen Fenris.

And so, after spending some time around the Hawke estate, everyone had left to get on with personal business. Unfortunately, that left Hawke bored, with nothing to do and no one to talk with, since she couldn’t stand her mother fussing over her and she wasn’t sure of Carver’s safety if she spent too much time around him.

So with nothing else to do, she had taken to reading.

A knock on the study’s door made her look up casually. When no one entered, she called out before returning her attention to her book. It was probably her mother or Carver, perhaps bringing her something to eat since she hadn’t attended dinner. If it was her mother, she would probably ask her to open the door, and if it was Carver… well, he could struggle.

“Good evening, Hawke,” a baritone voice called from behind her.

“Evening Fenris,” she replied, suppressing a smile that wanted to wipe itself across her face. “I was wondering when my rescuer would come and check up on me.”

“I’ve been busy,” he stated factually. “Considering that one Templar survived their attempted capture of you, the Chantry now knows of my part in their failure.”

“Yes, I suppose that would make things more difficult for you,” Hawke noted, placing her marker in the book and setting it down. “Thank you, by the way, for helping me out. If those Templars had managed to capture me… well, I would hope that one of you would be able to kill me before they finished the Rite of Tranquillity.”

She heard Fenris sigh and she looked up to see him shaking his head, an annoyed scowl across his face. He glared at her once he noticed that she was looking at him.

“Is magic so important to you that you would throw away your life to keep it?” he spat.

His words stabbed at her heart worse than any blade could, and she fought to keep herself from crying. Her struggle must have shown on her face for his softened slightly, as if her tears unnerved him.

“You don’t know what it means to be Tranquil,” she muttered quietly, shaking her head slightly at him.

“And you do?” he asked curiously, the harshness in his voice gone.

She didn’t reply instantly, gesturing to the empty lounger. She waited patiently as he stared at the seat, then back to her, before sitting. He looked at her, expectant for the explanation but patient for what he, thankfully, could tell was a sensitive subject.

“Magic is more to a mage than just a few flashy spells,” she began. “Magic is what connects us to the Fade… It’s a special connection. The Rite of Tranquillity blocks our connection to the Fade.”

“I know this already,” Fenris interjected. “It strips mages of magic.”

“But it’s more than that,” she explained. “Magic is something that is interwoven into our very souls. Strip us of magic…”

She trailed off, unwilling to finish the sentence. But, judging by the way Fenris had blanched, she didn’t need to. But, she knew she had to continue, she had to make sure he knew what the Rite really did.

“We can no longer dream,” she continued. “We can no longer feel. We become a husk, a… mockery of the person we once were. And we lose our free will. The Templars give us a task and we do it, because we don’t have the will to do anything else. Willpower… magic… it’s all a part of a soul, and the Rite takes that from us.”

“That…” Fenris trailed off, stunned. “I was not aware of that.”

“In some ways, it’s worse than Denerius branding you with lyrium,” she noted quietly, sadly. “At least you can still feel… at least you can still–”

A hand on her shoulder made her jump, and she found herself staring up at Fenris. She had been staring blankly ahead and had not noticed him rise from his seat and approach her.

She had never seen that look on his face before. She had never seen him open up emotionally as he was now. His expression was sympathetic, apologetic, and he was looking at her as if he was truly seeing her for the first time. For the first time since they’d met, he was looking at Hawke the woman, the person, not Hawke the apostate.

“I understand now,” he murmured softly. “I apologise for how I behaved towards you.”

“Does that mean… that you trust me?” she asked warily, yet hope blossomed in her chest. “Can you trust a mage?”

Fenris’ open expression fell back behind his guarded, stoic mask. He regarded her for a while searching her face for something, assurance perhaps. His expression softened again and he smiled.

“I can trust you.”

@LNichol, thank you! I needed some new fanfiction. I wonder if Fenris really does know what being made Tranquil means, or if he simply cannot see past his hatred and prejudice.

I want to write something myself, but, having completely raped my innocence, I am afraid I am going to unintentionally spoil you guys. Bah! I guess I will have to wait until next week with posting any possible short stories.

It certainly will be interesting, won't it? Unfortunately, I have to wait until Friday for the European release.

As for you writing a story with spoilers... if you post it in your blog and tell everyone that it has spoilers, then you've given them adequete warning and they read at their own risk. At least that's my opinion.
