My character is a mage. I was having trouble moving him up the rivalry scale, though. I had to game that a bit. He has a quest in act one and act two, I haven't gotten to act three yet but I'm assuming there's a final confrontation about the magister etc.Uhh.. Jonah wrote...
I didn't even get to complete his sidequest... and I know there is one cause I saw it on youtube. Gosh darn. I wonder what I did wrong. Ugh... Probably cause I was a mage..
You didn't get a random cutscene pop up of slavers attacking in act 2?? It happens after you've done a few quests and travel on the map.

I went with mage and had a friendship romance with Fenris. I was unclear on a few things:
1. When he left after the first time they slept together, how long did he leave for? I thought he just left for the night, but it sounds like he left for 3 years maybe?
2. He never moved in my estate either despite my invitation. Was this a bug?
3. I had Fenris and Anders in my group when I helped Anders on his quest in Act 3. Anders confronted me about my relationship with Fenris. Nice touch.
4. Did Fenris have a quest in Act 3? I remember giving him the Tevinter sword, but don't recall doing anything special for him in Act 3. I helped him with his sister in Act 2 and that's it.

For the bedroom scene, Hawke was the one who pushed him up against the wall. Not quite the same effect. But the scenes were still lovely. In the lead-up conversation he says "you and I don't always agree, but..." and you have to prompt him to go on. Other than that, I imagine it goes much the same as on the friendship path.Bluumberry wrote...
So what happened ont he rivalry path? I'm going to assume majority will get/go the friendship path so would be interesting to know the rivalry path does for the relationship.
WTB guides and such that tell us everything!
I took videos, but I feel a little strange posting vids of a game that just came out. If anyone really wants to see them, I'll put them up.
There was another surprise, but it's spoilery. Fair warning.
SPOILER FOR ROMANCE SCENE
After the bedroom scene, he says he can't continue the relationship because the memories of his former life started coming back, and he walks out. I'm guessing there'll be more but don't tell me, I want to find out on my own.
Hawke is the one who pushes into the wall even on the friendship path.
Him leaving after the bedroom scene isn't all that spoilery and has been talked about in other topics. Don't worry, he'll apologise and come back...but that it takes 3 years is awkward and can be blamed on the pacing of the game.

Nope... nothing. I already completed the game and I felt so far away from Fenris. On my second playtrough I will definately do everything I can to make him talk to me! lol

LOL I'm already planning a rogue archer pt to romance him on the friendship path. I was going to do a male next and try Merrill's. There goes that.Gilsa wrote...
Just finished my game tonight. Man, it's going to be hard not to re-romance Fenris for my second game. If there's enough differences in a rival romance, I can see myself doing a do-over instead of a second, separate character. =p
Gaider bursts his Miasma flask and we stand with tongues lolling. Happens every time.

They basically broke up for 3 years. He was there for the whole time however and regretted it.
Don't know if it is a bug or not, but we will see when more people begins complaining I assume
Anders only talked about my relationship with Fenris in party banter(and only after he left me), which was disappointing. Actually most party members just remarked about it in banter (wether the break up or him being in love with me) and the only one who actually had a cinematic dialogue about it was Isabela. Hawke's uncle saying "you're into elves huh?" made me crack up though.
He did have a quest, and the very important one where he confronts his sister and his former master.

For me, Anders turned around and said, "Are you sure about Fenris? He seems less a man to me than a wild dog." And from there, I had three responses. Fenris stepped in, all pissy. A few more words exchanged and then that was it. Awkward! =p

OK, I remember doing that one. Probably misrembered the Act it happened in. The game was so long that it all starts to blur together. =p

Also I like that after Fenris dumped Hawke in act 2 and if you tried to initiate a romance with Anders, he'll comment about the relationship between Hawke and Fenris and the dialogue after if you chose to say you were broken up or you still loved him (and defend him when Anders insult him). I also lol'd during Aveline's companion quest she brought up Hawke and Fenris' relationship up as a romance example while he was right there and the two of them were broken up and Hawke was all "...maybe we aren't the best example." I can't wait to continue on and see if there's more and I'm almost tempted to try doing Merrill's romance at the same time to see what her comment will be since my computer lags and I barely get to listen to party banters about their relationship (except the one time merrill pointed it out to him that he was totally in love with hawke). I think my only complaint about the romance so far is that I couldn't talk to him as much as I'd like.

...damn is he really going to dump hawke if she side with the mages on the rivalmance? this makes me a sad puppy, but I guess I can reload and pretend hawke feels more unsure about other mages after the prime suspect quest spoilers or something 8'(

Yes that conversation with Aveline and the subsequent quest had me in stiches. I wa slike "Fenris is right there and we've broken up!"
And I agree you can't talk to Fenris or the other companions as much as we'd like. There's also not enough romance related party banter.

Just letting you know that I had the same thing happen to me - it was kinda fun; need more confrontations like that!
I also just beat the game and am having a hard time forcing myself to romance someone else the second time around

I think just about everyone that romanced Fenris is feeling like this at the moment

Again, kudos to Mr. Gaider. I wanted so much to ignore him, but with every dialogue I just couldn't resist to know more and I fell. Great character..he clearly won. I just wish there were more dialogues to be honest. But the game was sadly designed this way.

I am planning on it though. Eventually. Fenris is just to awesome to resist for long. xD

Is there a way to play as a mage and romance him on friend path or does it have to be thru rivalry?
You can of course friendship romance him as a mage and I find it very rewarding to do so. You just have to probably pick some non mage friendly choices so you won't get rivalry points.

I really don't want to side with Templars just out of principle

lol I wanna see this!
Do you have to have a high relationship(friend/rival) with him for him to say something? Cuz right now, I've been leaving Anders in the dust when it comes to progressing the friendship with him in favor of building Fen's friendship. (I'm done with more than half of act 1 and I'm nearing 50%.)
