Did anyone else get the small scene with Fenris after your mother died? I was good up until that point with the mom's death and then he showed up and I started crying, lol.

The guide said that you can't but it's apparently wrong according to videos on Youtube.

So yes you can side with mages even if you have a rivalry with him. Haven't tried it myself though.

Aww, thank you! Stupid guide, spoiling things for me ) I guess I'll just play and see. It would be really stupid if he left after falling in love with a Mage-supporting mage that tends to disagree with him on anything short of slavers and children. kind of illogical

GOD I feel so bad now. I had to blackmail a templar money so that I didn't tell anyone about his apostate daughter! I felt like slapping Fenris for giving friendship points for. The things I have to do to romance him.....
Oh well, better be worth it.

Don't take him on Mages/Templars related quests, be sure to take him when you have to see Denzig in the Wayward Son quest in Act 1 and always act tought on slavers. Taking a survival/practical approach to situations, like asking to be paid, sometimes gives frienship points. Also, during the Magistrate quest, kill the guy who kills elven children, he'll approve.

Darn, didn't took Fenris on the Danzig slaver quest.

As for the child killer, do you mean killing the mage yourself or letting Fenris do it? Because in both cases(heart rip or throat slit) I didn't get friendship points either.

i didnt get any extra points on that quest either....how did you get the first scene? where in game are you?

I successfully romanced Fenris all within Act 3. A very tiring time to get his rivalry to max before I had to make my uber decision. But damn, it was worth every pro mage decision.

I'm trying to Friendmance him this time around. Has anyone successfully convinced him to move in with you?

i only ever recieved one flirt opportunity in act 1

I read that a handful of people did - I didn't because I had completed the Mother quest before completing his personal quest "The Bitter Pill."

Yes, I had this scene happen. He didn't exactly have much words of support but I accepted that's just the way he is. That whole part with hawke's mother was heartbreaking.

I think I'm going to just station myself in this thread considering how horrid the forums are exploding today with drama. Time to zone into Fenris happy land.

I picked some pro-mage choices in Act 1 and still filled his friendship bar by the end of act 2.  I didn't find it overtly dificult, considering conversations with him in his house give uber friendship points provided you're not a mage apparently

I'm nearing the end of my first playthrough now and so I think the big decision is coming up. I was all set to side with the mages, but after what happened to Leandra my mage Hawke is having second thoughts. She's now very uncomfortable about the idea of supporting blood mages (I suspect Orsino played a role in Leandra's murder too because of that letter you find in that quest so that's another thing). But I also admit that Fenris has influenced my Hawke too.  He had an interesting banter about blood mages with Anders, saying "Look what happened to Hawke's mother." I've come to think that if my mage Hawke sides with the blood mages she's simply going to prove Fenris right, and I don't want that outcome since she's been trying to prove to him that not all mages are bad. I also loved the way he supported Hawke in another banter with Anders by saying she's "strong", not like other mages.  
(I just hope that I get dialogue that reflects my Hawke's inner struggle - like even if she can't bring herself to side with Orsino I hope she can say she's not a fan of Meredith either). 

On another note, did anyone else love the Fenris/Merrill banter where she accused of him being in love and giving Hawke sad, puppy eyes whenever she wasn't looking?  It was nice too because the banter happened after Fenris and Hawke had slept together so it was after he had 'broken up' with Hawke.

I was mage and had him fully friend. I struggled the most in Act 1 where my friendship/rivalry gains kept canceling each other out, but it got easier in Act 2 and onwards. Probably because the romance dialogue options kept increasing his friendship along with doing his quests. I didn't blindly support mages -- there were some that had gone too far and I got some points as well. I really did think he was going to abandon Hawke when she chose to side with mages even with his warning ahead of time. Didn't realize there was a approval meter check and both he and Aveline stayed with me (both were max friendship). It was GREAT. My first (and canon) game had Alistair walking out on me at Landsmeet so I braced myself for some kind of sucky ending in the romance department, but I lucked out.

I think the dialogue I picked was first "Just say something", and then when he did I picked the choice where she said thanks for trying to comfort her. Then he sat down next to her.

Not until act 3 and it can happen around the beginning of it.

Did you get the final scene where you talk to him before going off with Orsino?  Where he kisses you and you get the romance achievement?

I ended up siding with the templars because I was terrified Fenris would leave before I could finish the romance.  But it's good to hear you can have him at rival and still convince him to stay if you side with the mages.


Also let me say this...  Fenris is, hands down, my favorite bioware romance to date.  The whole romance is just so rich and yummy and hello there wall time...
