I couldn't get the Varric and Aveline scene to trigger, either, hrm. Maybe it's because I still had Isabela in my party in Act 3? In my scene, Hawke comes in on Isabela trying to cheer him up and make him feel good about being a free man, and Fenris emos out on her until she rolls her eyes and leaves. And then the forgiveness/get back together scene.
Maybe it's possible that if you don't have Isabela, you get Aveline and Varric, instead? I would have loved to have seen both.
Yes, that's how it happens. I hadn't talked to Isabela yet so she was unavailable, and Aveline and Varric showed up.

Ouch.
I find it SO interesting though that he HATES when his sister calls him Leto. THAT'S the name that offends him, not the one that his master gave him to humiliate and belittle him. I wonder if it's because his friends all know him as Fenris, and he associates that name with Hawke?

Has anyone done a friendship romance with Fenris while being pro-mage? I want my mage to romance him, but she's going to be a big sweetheart who's very anti-slavery, so I can't quite imagine them having a heated rivalry.
I have, and I got his friendship meter up to 100% without too many hitches. I've actually played middle ground, pro mage but anti-blood magic and such, realistic about the Circle, etc.

Same. It's not that much of an obstacle to romance him as a mage. I did my first playthrough romancing him as a MageFemHawke and pro-mage generally. You have to be careful but it's nothing far from common sense.

I wondered about that too! I think he may have been sort of... sickened by his sister, and what she did, just then. Leto is a name that only she knew of, that only she uses, so... he wouldn't want anything to do with it.
Also, Fenris' 'I'm thinking something naughty' face before sleep tiem.

What's frustrating is when you have those times in conversations when Fenris goes anti-mage, you can try to explain your point of view, and he can kind of calm down(like admitting that not all mages are "bad" and some(like Hawke or Bethany) are strong)... but then in the next conversation or banter with Anders, he's suddenly completely anti-mage again. It's like nothing's changed.

*Swoon*
Well rewatching the scene he didn't oppose it when she first used it. After he found out she betrayed him, of course he opposes it.

Lol I actually wasn't that careful while romancing him as a mage. I always went for the choices that I hoped would set him off the most.Auresta wrote...

I kind of wish, however, that they had done more with that conversation where Fenris says "Look what happened to your mother", because I would have liked my Hawke to get off her high horse and manage to agree with him about something - blood magic being bad, that is. I roleplayed her into being kind of naive about blood magic in the beginning, like "if you're just careful with it what could go wrong?" (this was her view with Merrill) but then she's humbled after losing Leandra. I thought Fenris deserved a better "I told you so" moment after putting up with Hawke's yay!mages attitude for so long.

Good theory.I also think he hated it because he'd just found out that he had volunteered for the lyrium scarring ritual, so he saw being called "Leto" as her associating him with that person he used to be.
She definitely calls him Leto before Fenris finds out he volunteered for the ritual, so I don't think that's it! If you tell Fenris to kill her/let him make his own choice, he never finds out about that at all, actually. I almost like it better that way, poor Fenris. Some times, you just shouldn't know, even though it implies he made a huge, painful sacrifice for his family.

Apparently Fenris's family (mother and sister) were all slaves. He managed to pay for their freedom by volunteering himself for the ritual.Auresta wrote...

I feel like I've just been on the most fantastic emotional rollercoaster in existence! I'm still feeling "wowed" and "awed" by the entire game, from the overall plotline to the individual character relationships, there is so much depth and complexity, its been so incredibly satisfying...I don't even know where to start. Fenris is without doubt my absolute fav game character, I bow to Lord Gaider's brilliant genius in creating Fenris and his character. Between his soul-aching torture and personal demons and his hidden loving and passionate side, it was mind blowing..truly EPIC! The pushed up against the wall kiss, the love scene, the apology, every single scene he was in left me wanting more...I loved the party banter ( and yes greedily wished there was more of it ) but I lmao during ones like Fenris and Varric's party banters, especially these ( the Fenris makes a joke & brooding ) made me wonder if the devs had been following this thread..I was almost expecting to hear/see something about toast!
www.youtube.com/watch
www.youtube.com/watch
Varric: So what do you do in that gigantic house all day?
Fenris: I dance of course.
Varric: Really?
Fenris: I run from room to room, choreographing routines.
Varric: You're actually joking. Alert the Chantry! They need to put this on the calendar.
Fenris: And you thought I was always serious.
And then there's the look he gives in the Hanged Man during the "Alone" mission, after you say " you have me Fenris".. its so heartbreakingly sad and grateful... and then when he says in the apology, "nothing could be worse than the thought of living without you" .....My heart melted like butter:wub:. And that VOICE! Dear Maker! Every word he utters makes my heart skip ..but the lines he says when you talk to him when in your party, " I remain at your side", and the "I am yours" ..when I heard that one I think I fell off the couch and my heart felt like it was going to explode...
Well Bioware, DA 2 Team...You have once again epically out done yourselves in creating a masterpiece. I am (like a vast number of others) hopelessly addicted and in love with this game! Guaranteed I'll be doing some 20 + playthroughs like I did with DA:O...You guys are amazing! Thank you!<3
Edit: I hope we will be able to see more Fenris stuff in DLC's and even have him back in a future game. He's my fav Dragon Age character yet!
*pops back out to obsessively play again*

Highlights of the romance for me. There's a few lines Hawke can give Fenris that result in a small sweet little smile/grin.And then there's the look he gives in the Hanged Man during the "Alone" mission, after you say " you have me Fenris".. its so heartbreakingly sad and grateful... and then when he says in the apology, "nothing could be worse than the thought of living without you" .....My heart melted like butter:wub:. And that little awkward/embarrassed chuckle/cough thing he does when you flirt with him for the first time.
He also says, at some point "I like following you around." With a slightly snarky/teasing tone.but the lines he says when you talk to him when in your party, " I remain at your side", and the "I am yours" ..when I heard that one I think I fell off the couch and my heart felt like it was going to explode...

All I can do now is hope that there's much more of him in DLC. Especially more if you pursued a romance with him.
Didn't it not take Bioware long for the first Origins DLC? Wonder if we'll have to wait a long time before we hear anything for DA2.
Edit: Sorry, I meant more like expansions. Sebastien doesn't count.
