I truly had a love/hate relationship with Fenris, once I decided to romance him. I was playing Hawke as a mage, so I was making a lot of mage-friendly decisions. It was a little weird and annoying to have Fenris constantly complaining about mages, especially after have being with Hawke for years, he couldnt possibly admit it wasnt ALL mages that are bad? But he was devoted and needed help. I was determined to change his mind about mages. How like a woman to try to fix a man
I actually like that Fenris can't be persuaded to change his mind about mages, well other mages that aren't Hawke. I think it was in the scene where Hawke and him make up, Hawke can say something along the lines of, "Are you still anti-mage blahblah...?" I thought his response was understandable. While clearly he comes to respect a mage!Hawke, he says the number of 'weak' mages that give into demons or try to take power, greatly outnumbers mages like Hawke who are strong enough to ignore the temptation. I'm not at all surprised even in years in Hawke's pressense, his stance on mages hasn't changed all too much. Years of being abused as a slave by a crazy sadistic magister, in a country where you see mages abuse their power probably everyday, and being hounded by former masters' salvers for a fews years following escape... I'd be pretty resentful too. Let's not forget that during the events in the game, lots of the mages you encounter are exactly the kind of mages Fenris hates and fear Kirkwall will be taken over with. I was pretty much on camp 'Let-The-Mages-Be-Free', but after a while(Mama Hawke...

) my Hawke thought, 'Hey, maybe having mages be looked after isn't such bad thing after all.' I think, even as stubborn as he is, I wouldn't have liked him as much if he didn't have such strong convictions. It's why I LOVE romancing him as mage. It's so ironic that with all his hate for mages, he can fall in love with one and swear to be by his or her side for the rest of his life. Hawke's his one exception.
