My only serious complaint of the game. The pacing seems all off.

Edit: Unless their years there are different than ours. One year there could = like... 7 months here(something that always seems to be left out of fantasy things. If you're on a different planet than Earth, wouldn't the year lengths be different? Was fixed somewhat in Mass Effect...)

I think that has a lot to do with the hidden journal enties you need to read after each jump in years that help you understand what has been happening and the fact that the world doesn't feel like it changes... at all even when so many years go by.

For Andraste's sake... Fenris has dead bodies in his house for what... 7 years?

I don't know!  I never got the glowy push against the wall scene.  Best I can remember, my PC let him leave after the Hadriana quest.  Later on he shows up at the mansion at night and it's that scene.

 after playing the quest "alone" in act 3 ... i really wanted to play a backstory of Fenris. :happy:

Im not sure the glowy kiss...

Fenris was really aggressive to my Hawke. He grabbed the back of her neck and pulled her in for the kiss before backing her onto the wall only to have Hawke put his back to the wall instead.

I think the type of kiss you get might depend on how your Hawke reacts in the game and the differnet responses you tend to give to the situations.

Either do NOT finish the questioning beliefs quest before the Bitter pill quest. You don't get a kiss then. Go to his house, finish the Questioning Beliefs, then go back to your house at night.

OR

In the scene just after killing Hadriana, don't choose, "don't go." He'll leave, but the next time you go to your house at night, you'll get that kiss.

And I just triggered that kiss for the rivalry.. wowza! I'll upload it to youtube. That is an intense scene, especially since I have a b!tchy Hawke who just told him to shut up.

Both positive and rivalry work.  There are some small differences in dialogs, and at least one of the kisses is different (the glowy kiss has different head positioning, the rivalry one has hawke kissing his neck at the end, while the friendship one has them kissing on the mouth).

you can do the recruitment quest as early as you want in act 1.  He was the first one I recruited (aside from Varric and Avaline of course).  I think you just have to go to your house twice to get the quest letter.

Edit: He's angrier, but more passionate, with the rivalry romance, and sweeter with the friendship one, but they're both really well done.  And pretty much the same.

Yeah I eventually sought out minor spoilers because I was having trouble.  You get his recruitment quest pretty early after you move in to uncle's house.  Keep checking your letters at home.  His quest is the one from your former indenture employer, pointing you towards a dwarf named Anso.

As far as friendship/ rivalry:  He hates demons, blood mages and slavers.  Approves of templar activity, sending mages to the Circle, rejecting demons and of killing slavers.  You get friendship points for being nice to him when he talks about himself, rivalry for challenging him or for putting off his quest in act 2.

You need to check out mail all throughout act 1! You'll get a letter giving you the quest "Bait and Switch," from the smuggler or mercenary, depending on who you sided with.

As for friendship vs. rivalry, it depends on what you like better. Friendship Fenris, you get to slowly pull him out and have him open up to you and fall in love with you for how you're the only person who ever understood him. Rivalry Fenris, he yells at you a lot and then grabs you and kisses you because you drive him crazy.

Thanks for the replies!  Glad to hear I can recruit him very early - can't believe I missed this in the first playthrough.  I think I'll go for the friendly romance option as I think it'll let me learn more about Fenris and his background.  Although the rivalry option does sound raunchy

I got the glowy kiss where he pushes her aginst the wall. She looks scared at first, but then she gets a little smirk and she goes in for the kiss, then turns him around and starts devouring his neck. It was awesome!

Hawke gets turned on by angry Fen.  She digs the hate sex.
