He does make a point of telling you that he doesn't follow the Qun, and he certainly has no affinity for the elven gods and Dalish ways. I'm not surprised he's an Andrastian.Madame Rose Crimsynn wrote...

But when I heard the dialogue a second time, it seemed like he was trying to hide that he actually had been praying.

LMFAO! I seriously laughed out loud at that one. Why is Anders so ****y about the relationship between Fenris and Hawke. I mean...I had that banter, too (minus Isabela) and I never even flirted with Anders.

I did notice the similarity in the question. He's not necessarily a virgin, though. He doesn't remember before the lyrium ritual, and only says he hasn't been with anyone since he escaped. I'm wondering if the fact that his memories are brought back by sex with Hawke is that he actually did have a lover at some point.UltiPup wrote...

That's hilarious. I've never heard Isabela's part because she always leaves me before I get that banter. Though, the first time I heard that banter it was after I had forgiven Fenris and we were back together, which alarmed me at first because I thought my game got messed up. I still love when Anders stops you and says its not his place to criticize, but wouldn't I rather be with someone more open-minded than Fenris, and calls him a 'mad dog' (or something of the like). To which I always reply that he just doesn't know him, and Fenris cuts into the conversation. Is this specific to the romance, or does it happen regardless. Though I kind of don't want to know whether it happens regardless, because it further fuels my belief that Anders is secretly in love with me. Because, well, I did flirt with him a little...Ah. I <3 love triangles.
P.S. After helping Isabela, and telling her she could have the relic (and she leaves me for good) I get a little icon, next to where the dog icon is, saying "Isabela has your back", indicating that we are at frienship level, yet she is no longer one of my companions. Is this a kind of glitch? Has anyone else seen it?

I believe it's during "Questioning Beliefs".
It's when he's being a wino and all, and talking about how he escaped. The same conversation where he makes it blatantly clear how much he wants you.

The Anders thing happens regardless of the romance or whether or not you flirt with him. He was pratically throwing himself at my Hawke right after Karl died. I had to flat out refuse thus earning my rivalry sigh... Anders might just have a crush on Hawke, but I think it more that he doesn't like nor understand why his leader would love a guy like Fenris. The Isabela thing is not a glitch. She will return to help you in the final battle if you had high enough friendship. And I completely braced myself for him leaving my Hawke when I ultimately decided to side with the mages. (I lost Alistair at Landsmeet for simliar reasons.) And I was shocked and touched that he stayed devoted to my Hawke. That was great. I also love how the ending was simple -- the chosen love interest stayed with Hawke. No spectulation on what they went on to do. To "for a time" or disappearing acts. Nothing. The game felt whole and provided a sense of closure that I didn't really have with Origins.
I braced myself too, though I knew it was possible to at least bring him back to my side later on. When he finally said "This is a mistake...but I won't abandon you." my heart almost literally jumped into my throat (it was in my stomach before that because of what Anders did. When the Chantry blew up I was gaping, murmuring "Oh, my god. Oh, my god". He was my friend, and he used me. I was clutching my head with trembling hands. Seriously.)
It elated me, and made me more firm in my belief that I had to stand up for the mages. To have Aveline, who was unsure, say her place was by my side. To have Fenris, who hated mages, hated magic, hated everything that they could do, but who loved me, say he wouldn't abandon me, was one of the most emotional gaming moments I've ever had.
I want to say this now, because I don't think I could ever think it enough or tell enough people: I loved Dragon Age II more than Origins. That's not to say I didn't love Origins. I played it seven consecutive times, before I had my fill. But Dragon Age II resonated so much more with me. I loved the political story, more so than an epic evil that had to be destroyed. I loved that it took Fenris three years to say he couldn't stop thinking about me, and to sleep with Hawke, instead of possibly weeks (like in Origins). I loved that it was hard for him, and that the romance didn't complete until years later, and how I could remain faithful, or turn my attention to another if I wanted. As much as it made me want to cry, I loved the emotion of the death of Hawke's mother and how, even though he had left me there, Fenris tried to comfort me.
My only complaint is that it had an ending. I wanted it to go on forever. I can't wait for story enhancing DLC. Whether that entails content that happens in the between years, or post game, I hope I get to spend more time with FenrisAfter all, "nothing is going to keep him from me", and he's the only one who didn't leave my side <3 *sigh*
I do too...and I don't. But it's mechanics I don't love more. I miss conversations. I miss kisses any time we wanted, and I miss repeatable ove scenes. But Thisgame was so much more emotionally draining the two romances I've done so far (anders first, now Fenris) have me convinced the writes feed on our tears (we know David Gaider does...but we love him so it's allowed). I mean...ELEANOR COUSLAND AS MOM HAWKE!! Who's idea was this, and it HAD to be intentional. As if it wasn't bad enough seeing her horrific death as a cousland, at least you could avoid it by not playing a Cousland. OMG I cried like a baby.

I don't think Fenris is a virgin. Not only does he not say that in the conversation (he really doesn't), his old master implies that sex was one of his duties and compliments his skill. What he says is that he doesn't have any memories of before he had the markings, and that he has never been close to anyone since he escaped. It's possible he's a virgin, but maybe I'm strange, but I did not get that out of the conversation.
Alistair and Zevran and Fenris were all written by David Gaider (I believe). I see some dialogs from Fenris that are similar to Zevran, and some that are similar to Alistair. But he's very different from both as well.

I don't think Isabela returned for my final battle (you mean the battle against Meredith, right?), though Zevran did show up. That was a shock to me. I turned around, thought I was being attacked by something else, before I realized it was Zevran. In my mind I was telling him he better not let Fenris see him, considering they didn't part on the best of circumstances. Ah, Fenris basically promised to rearrange Zevran's face after the Antivan Crow proposed that we 'get to know each other better'.

Are you a PC player? Because I can understand how you might dislike some mechanics. On a console I feel that the mechanics were way better than Origins. But that would be going into the whole console vs. PC war, and that's not what I want. But I can definitely see where you're coming from, whether or not you are on the PC.
But yes. The story was more engaging for me. I really don't understand how people can say "it's not gaming's greatest story" as if proclaiming it's bad. While I won't say that it is the greatest, what exactly are they comparing it to? Considering the host of unimaginative shooters out there, games that rehash the epic evil angle, and everything else, I don't see how you can't appreciate that the story is very different. It takes more thinking, which is what I feel people had a problem with. But I like political struggles. Especially fantasy ones.

Varric does. He teaches your dog how to gamble, apparently. And Anders talks to your dog after you ask him to move in. He tells your dog that there isn't any room for him in the bed now that Anders is there. And of course Carver talked to my dog, before he got taken away (I assume Bethany does too). Sebastian told me that my mabari was a mark of honor and nobility. I don't know if Merrill ever speaks to the dog. And then, of course, there's Fenris. So the elves don't find it rewarding to talk to your dog? lol
Well, I know for a fact that Merrill speaks to the dog. She tells him a story about the dread wolf. I've also heard people say Fenris does talk to the dog, but so far I haven't experienced it myself.
...also, hi, I'm new to the thread. Do you guys have room for one more FenFan?
Oh, yeah. Now I remember the dread wolf story. I only got it in my second playthrough, so I didn't think about it. My first playthrough will forever be my canon playthrough (which isn't always the case for me, because in Origins my canon playthrough was my Dalish elf, which was my second time through the game).
And I'm fairly certain there's room for one more
I got the Fenris conversation with the dog - he says the breed actually originated in Tervinter, but when the Imperium invaded Ferelden the *dogs* defected.

Oh, hahaha. He didn't actually say he would rearrange Zevran's face, it's just something my friend said when I showed Zevran's cameo to her. He said the same thing in my playthrough that he did in yours, but my friend started cracking up, because I muttered aloud (as if to Fenris) "You never let me have any fun." When I asked her what was so funny she said she thought it would be hilarious to see Fenris rearrange Zevran's face if I was actually allowed to say that in game.
I frequently make the mistake of merging in game things with my own imagination and real life experiences. Sorry :innocent:

He then snarks about the dogs preferring the barbarians to the mages.
wow i never seen this..
